Mrs. lena synthis ferguson cheek

 

Mrs. Lena Synthia Ferguson Cheek, age 87, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, February 13, 2006 at Union General Hospital.  Mrs. Cheek was born Thursday, March 14, 1918 in Towns County, GA, to the late William “Bill” and Lydia (Edwards) Ferguson.  Mrs. Cheek was of the Baptist faith.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Cheek, in 1995.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, William and Nedra Cheek, daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Edward Mashburn, son and daughter-in-law, Horace and Ruth Cheek, son and daughter-in-law, Herman and Lavada Cheek and son and daughter-in-law, jerry and Susie Cheek, all of Blairsville, GA; sister, Ethel Cheeks of Blairsville, GA, brother, Roy Ferguson of Adairsville, GA and brother, Floyd Ferguson of Cumming, GA. 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Ray Potts and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Music was provided by Gary Burnette, Lavada Cheek, Becky Dyer, Jerry Karnes and Melissa Mashburn.  Interment followed in the Woods Grove Baptist Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: James Cheek, Gary Cheek, Kevin Cheek, Brian Mashburn, Dell Tanner and Ronnie Dyer.  Honorary pallbearers included: Gary Burnette, Danny Stephens and Anthony Stephens.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Tuesday, February 14.

thomas howard bell

 

Thomas Howard Bell, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, February 10, 2006 at Union County Nursing Home.  Mr. Bell was born Saturday, September 5, 1925 in Fannin County, Georgia to the late Charlie Bell and the late Amanda Peak Bell.  He had dual membership in The Lincoln Park – Ionic Lodge No. 539 F & AM and The Sweet Gum Masonic Lodge No. 542.  He had retired from Ford Motor Company and was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Sims Bell.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Tommy & Irene Bell of Murphy, NC, son & daughter-in-law, Dan & Bonnie Bell, AK, son & daughter-in-law,, Mike & Vickie Bailey of Murfreesboro, son & daughter-in-law, James & Bernice Bailey of Smyrna, TN, son & daughter-in-law, Grady & Brenda Bell of Buchanan, Ga., ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, nieces & nephews, and step-son & daughter in law, Dan & Sharon McDonald of Michigian.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 13, 2006 at 2 PM from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Roy Clore and Reverend Paul Wehunt officiating.  Music was provided by David Anderson and Amber Wisdom.  Interment followed in New Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic rites by Sweet Gum Masonic Lodge No. 542 F & AM.  Serving as pallbearers were: Phillip Bell, Robert Russell, Kenny Bell, Lee Bennett, Grady Bell, Jr. and Josh Cochran.

mrs. helen marie morrissey

 

Mrs. Helen Marie Morrissey, age 75 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Morrissey was born Tuesday, September 2, 1930 in Essex County, Massachusetts to Enoch Henry and Margaret Conners Henry.  She was a member of Union County Nursing Home Auxiliary for 14 years, St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church, Christian Womens Club, the Red Hats Society and the Union County Historical Society.

Survivors include: husband, Martin Morrissey of Blairsville, GA, daughter, Maureen Morrissey of Orlando, FL, daughter & son-in-law, Kathleen and Edwin Muller of St. Petersburg, FL, grandsons, Todd and Michael Conway.

Memorial services were held Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with Father Richard Wise officiating.  The family received friends at the funeral home following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lung Association or to United Hospice.

mrs. michaelene markuson cushman

 

Mrs. Michaelene Markuson Cushman, age 65, of Honey Bell Lane, Blairsville, formerly of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on Thursday February 16, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Cushman was born on July 10, 1940 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Martin A. Markuson and the late Carole Kaliski Markuson.  Mrs. Cushman was a member of the Unity Church of the Mountains.  She was a Lay Chaplin for two years in Florida and a Quilter for more than twenty years.

Surviving Mrs. Cushman are her loving husband of forty-seven years, Michael Cushman of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan John and Laura Cushman of Blairsville, Kenneth and Kathy Cushman of Vero Beach, FL, one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Bill Duffney of Allen, TX, four grandchildren, Kim, Darby and Amalachi Cushman, and Joseph Duffney, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 from the Unity Center of Vero Beach in Vero Beach, FL with the Rev. Robin Richter officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Unity of the Mountains Church in Blairsville in Mrs. Cushman’s memory.

mrs. imogene gillespie hutson

 

Mrs. Imogene Gillespie Hutson, age 93, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, February 13, 2006 at Union County Nursing Home.  Mrs. Hutson was born Monday, October 14, 1912 in Union County, GA, to the late Thomas Gillespie and the late Cora Epps Gillespie.  She was a member of pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  Mrs. Hutson was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Hutson and a son, Edward Hutson.

Survivors include: son, Bill Hutson of Marietta, GA; daughter, Betty Elrod of Tyrone, GA; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive.

Graveside services were held Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 11 AM from the Union memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Earl Bishop and the Rev. Guy Bradley officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Ed Hutson, Jon Hutson, Justin Leach, Ken Leach, Joe Sciota and Dormas Sullivan.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Wednesday evening, February 15.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes, P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
