rev. james calvin thompson, sr.
Rev.
James Calvin Thompson, Sr., age 86, of
Route 2, Murphy, NC, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 1995, in an Andrews, NC
hospital.
He was a native of Union County, GA. He
became an ordained minister in 1945 and
pastured churches in Cherokee County, NC and Union County, GA. He was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist
Church.
A mason, he was a member of
Montgomery Lodge No. 426 and Eastern Star – Cooley Lodge.
He was a son of the late Allen James
and Amanda Townson Thompson and was preceded in death by four brothers
and 1
sister.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years,
Alice Whitmore Thompson; one son, Rev. James Calvin Thompson, Jr. of
the home;
one brother, Ralph Thompson of Culberson, NC; and one sister, Mary
Panther of
Ackworth, GA.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1995, at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel,
Murphy,
NC. The Revs. Aud Brown, Jimmy Rogers
and Dr. Chester Jones officiated.
Masonic rites were conducted by Montgomery Lodge No. 426. Burial was in the Whitmore Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his brother-in-law and
nephews, James Thompson, Paul Thompson, Ray Whitmore, Johnny Whitmore,
Mark
Whitmore and Kevin Garrett.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve
Thompson and his minister friends.
Townson Rose Funeral Home, Murphy,

Mrs.
Alvie Brackett Partin, age 99, of
Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, February 12, 1995 in Union County
Nursing
Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Partin was born in Union
County, GA, on July 20, 1895, a daughter of the late Will and Zadie
Brackett. She was a homemaker and a
lifelong resident of this area. Mrs.
Partin was a member of Providence Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr.
Ed Partin, in 1957.
Surviving are daughter and
son-in-law, Ruby and Mark “Junior” Towery, of Blairsville; son and
daughter-in-law, Neal and Shirley Partin, of Locust Grove, GA; a
sister, Dessie
Atkins, of Blairsville; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and
several
nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
February 14, 1995 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with
Rev. Ray
Potts officiating. Special music was
presented by Kennith (sic) and Elaine Young.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ron Towery,
Charles
Partin, Gene Rogers, Neal Partin, Jr., Eddie Partin, and Mark Towery,
Jr. Interment was in Providence Methodist
Church
Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruby
Alexander, age 69, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 1995 in Union General
Hospital in
Blairsville.
Mrs. Alexander was born in Whitfield
County, Georgia on January 28, 1926, a daughter of the late Narve Allen
Dyer
and Laura Jane Townsend Dyer. She had
lived in this area for most of her life and was a member of Old Liberty
Baptist
Church.
Surviving are her
husband, Hoyt Alexander of Blairsville; son, Jimmy Alexander of
Charlswilde,
Germany; daughter, Bonnie York of Sautee, Georgia; son, Eddie Alexander
of
Blairsville; brother, Howard Dyer of Blairsville; brother, Ishmael Dyer
of
Blairsville; sister, Norma McDonald of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; six
grandchildren, and three great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday,
February 17, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from Old Liberty Baptist Church with
Rev. Jerry
Young officiating. The church choir
presented the music for the service. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Lou Collins, Todd Collins,
Jay
Collins, Aubrey Dyer, Gene Collins, F.C. Collins. Interment
was in the church cemetery.

Mrs.
Grapelle England Colwell, age 89, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 1995.
Mrs. Colwell was born in Union
County, Georgia, on June 22, 1904, a daughter of the late William
Harrison
England and Callie Rada Henson England.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Colwell was a member of Shady Grove
Methodist Church and the widow of the late Albert “Ab” Colwell, who
passed away
in 1958.
Survivors include son and
daughter-in-law, A.C. and Jean Colwell of Tucker, Georgia; son and
daughter-in-law, Max and Isabell Colwell of Millers Creek, North
Carolina; son
and daughter-in-law, Rev. Jack and Gwen Colwell of Pinehurst, Georgia;
daughter
and son-in-law, Dottie Colwell Coltrane and Al Coltrane of Lithonia,
Georgia;
eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Friday,
February 17, 1995 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with
Rev. Danny
Parris and Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating.
Specially selected music for the service was presented by Terry
Hooper. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Clark Colwell, Brad Coltrane, Sonny Colwell, Fred
Penland,
Watson Ward, and Leslie McCord. Serving
as honorary escort to the family was Russ Crawford.
Interment was in Blairsville City Cemetery.
