Mrs.
Bonnie Louise
Sexton Starnes, age 81, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday,
February 13,
2011 in Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, GA.
Mrs. Starnes was a native of Union County, GA,
and had lived in Jonesboro, GA, for many years before moving back to
Blairsville in 1996. Bonnie was born on
Tuesday, April 23, 1929, in Blairsville, to Ed and Fannie sexton. She was a member of Trackrock Baptist Church
and enjoyed flower gardening. Preceding
her in death her parents, Ed and Fannie Gillespie Sexton; two brothers,
Neal
Sexton and Worth Sexton; and a sister, Ruth Cook.
She will
be missed
especially by her family members: her husband, Horace C. Starnes, of
Blairsville; two daughters, Janice Johnson and Karen Haney, both of
Morrow, GA;
a sister, Clara Mathis, of Blairsville; three brothers; Everett Sexton,
Bobby
Sexton, and Edward Sexton, all of Blairsville; three grandchildren; one
great
grandchild; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services for
Mrs. Starnes were held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at 2 p.m., in
the
Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. With Rev. Harley Hunter
and Rev.
Denny Moss officiating. Burial was in
Trackrock Baptist Church Cemetery. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kenneth Cook, Stan Mathis,
Brandon
Haney, Jerry cook, Larry Johnson, and Jantson Haney.
Visitation at the funeral home was held on
Tuesday, February 15, 2011, after 6 p.m., with the family especially
meeting
with friends from 6 until 9 p.m.

Frances
B. Merrill, born 1918 in upstate New York, was the widow of
Kenneth
Merrill. She passed away February 14,
2011. Frances Merrill was the daughter
of Stanley and Lillian Beuner. She is
survived by one son, Russell Merrill, one grandson, Timothy Merrill and
also by
many loved ones as well as her kind caregivers at Stonehenge Assisted
Living. The memorial service for her was
at the
Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Paradise Rd., in Blairsville on
Saturday
Feb. 19, 2011 at 2 p.m.
As a
footstep
follower of Christ Jesus, she and her husband moved to Union County in
1989 to
help establish a congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She
was a joyful and loving person and will be
greatly missed.

Mr.
Aubrey Thomas
Phillips, age 88, of Ryan Road, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday,
February
17, 2011 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta following an extended
illness. Mr. Phillips was born on July 30,
1922 in
Calcutta, India the son of the late Shirley Phillips and the late Ella
Mae
Balmforth. He was a Reverend Doctor and
was a retired minister of the Hillcrest Assembly of God. He
had served as a minister since 1980’s. He
also served on the board of Elim Bible
Fellowship of Canada and worked for British Airways for over 36 years
as an
airport manager. He loved his family,
Savior, Church and playing piano. He was
preceded in death by his sister Cynthia Phillips and his wife Dorothy
Phillips.
Surviving
Mr.
Phillips are three children, a son Jeffrey Phillips of Roswell, GA, a
son and
daughter-in-law Rod and Elia Phillips of Haywood, CA, and a daughter
and son-in-law
Shirley and Jess Graves of Roswell, GA, a sister Hillary Gaines of
Franklin, NC,
a sister and brother-in-law Lynette and Errol Alchin of Ontario, Canada
and
seven grandchildren, Claire, Vanessa, Jonathan, Gavin, Marie, Adam and
Calvin.
A funeral
service
will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Hillcrest
Assembly of God in Hayesville, NC, with the Reverend Rod Phillips and
the
Reverend Aline Mosteller officiating. Interment
will follow at the Hillcrest Assembly of God Cemetery. The
following gentlemen will serve as
pallbearers: Jackie Bounds, Johnny Bounds, Gary Bounds, Norman Cooper,
Roy
Mostello and Mike Patterson. The family
will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from
1-2 p.m.

William
Ruel Avery Galbreath, Jr. “Ruel”, 76
of Blairsville, GA and Fruitland Park, FL, passed away on Thursday,
February
10, 2011 after a brief illness. Born on
December 24, 1934 in Tampa, FL, he graduated from South Broward High in
Dania,
FL and attended the University of Georgia where he played football with
this
(sic) brother, Pat. He earned a BA in
Education from F.A.U., an MS in Vocational education from F.I. U. and
his Educational
Specialist degree from Nova University.
He taught History, Horticulture and Floral Design in Broward
County for
over 24 years, motivating and molding the lives of young people. He loved fishing with his grandchildren,
spoiling his dogs and spending time with his many friends.
He was a part-time resident of Union County
for over 30 years. Predeceased by his
father, William Ruel Avery Galbreath, Sr.; his mother, Geneva Beck
Galbreath;
and his younger brothers, Patrick Gough Galbreath and Michael Lewis
Galbreath.
He is
survived by
his high school sweetheart and wife of 54 years, Patricia Anne
Fulenwider
Galbreath of Blairsville, GA and Fruitland Park, FL; his daughter, Kim
Galbreath Fleming and her husband, Jeff, of Blairsville, GA; his
daughter,
Kathi Melgarez and her friend, Mark of Leesburg, FL; his beloved
grandchildren,
Dawn Whitmire and her husband, LaVell; Sean Melgarez and Andrew Chen,
as well
as many, many friends.
A Celebration of Life was held on
Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Beyers Funeral Home in Leesburg, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association
or the
American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Pia
Rita
Largess, age 95, of Wesley Mtn. Drive, Blairsville, passed away on
Saturday,
Feb. 12, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended
illness. Mrs. Largess was born on June 27,
1915 in
South Bridge, MA, the daughter of the late Matthew and Agnes Benveuti. Pia moved to N. Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1960 and
was employed with Uniris Inc. and Tells Originals for several years. In 1986 she moved to Blairsville.
She was a member of the VFW Auxillary (sic)
and the Catholic Counsel Womens Society.
She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great
grandmother. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley W. Largess, a grandson,
Manny
McGill and three brothers, Earnest, William and Emo Benveuti. Mrs. Largess was a member of St. Francis of
Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving
Mrs.
Largess are one daughter, Patricia A. McGill of Blairsville, one son,
John W.
Largess of Blairsville, two brothers, Henry J. Benveuti of Boynton
Beach, FL,
Matthew Benveuti of South Bridge, MA, five grandchildren, Jared Paul,
Jon
McGill, Brec Bowers, Molly Sisum and Pia Kluth, twelve
great-grandchildren,
many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were
held on Tuesday Feb. 15, 2011 at 1 p.m. from St. Francis of Assisi
Catholic
Church with Father Richard Wise officiating. Special
music was presented by Ron Gaucher. Interment
and graveside services were held on
Thursday Feb. 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in
Ft.
Lauderdale, FL. The family met with
friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs.
Hilda Virginia
McCaskill, age 94, of Pine Ridge Acres, Blairsville, passed away on
Saturday Feb.
5, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. McCaskill was born on Jan. 17, 1917 in
Conley Springs, NC, the daughter of the late Gordon Berry and the late
Bessie
Griffin Berry. She was a veteran of the
US Army. She was a loving wife, mother,
sister, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother.
Mrs. McCaskill was a member of St. Francis of
Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving
Mrs.
McCaskill are her loving husband of sixty-five years, Ed McCaskill of
Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ron Schultz of
Blairsville,
two sons and daughter-in-laws, Ed "Buddy" and Barbara McCaskill of
Weirsdale, FL, Daniel and Nancy McCaskill of Jacksonville, FL, one
sister and
brother-in-law, Rachel and Cutcliffe of Waycross, GA, nine
grandchildren,
several great and great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews,
many
other relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service
was held on Friday Feb. 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the St. Francis of
Assisi
Catholic Church with Father Richard Wise officiating. Special
music was presented by Ron Gaucher. Interment
followed in St. Clares Memory
Gardens. In lieu of flowers if you wish,
the family requests that memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi
Catholic Church in memory of Mrs. McCaskill.

Mrs.
Darlene Payne Thompson,
age 60, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday evening February
11, 2011. She was born September 4, 1950
the daughter of
Dan and Wynnelle Turner Payne. Mrs.
Thompson was a homemaker whose life was centered around her family and
she
enjoyed doing crafts. Darlene was
preceded in death by her husband, George Grady Thompson, in April of
2010; and
her father, Dan Payne.
Mrs.
Thompson is
survived by her mother, Wynnelle, sons and daughters-in-law; Kyle and
Tabetha
Thompson of Canton, GA; Grady and Joyce Thompson and Perry and Christy
Thompson, both of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Marty
Dyer of
Blairsville; brother, Joe Payne; sisters, Bonnie Bell, Jean Debord,
Patsy Payne
and Gaye Nelle Simonds; and grandchildren, Trish, Nikki, Kalen, Ashley,
Christopher and Lynette Thompson, Shauna and Josh Dyer, Kevin and
Ashley Walker
and Kamiya Potts and Sarah Knight. Many
other relatives and friends also survive.
She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Funeral
services were
held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2011 from the Chapel of the Cochran
Funeral
Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Michael Anderson
officiating. Special music was presented by The New Life Singers and
Jimmy and
Judy Thompson. Interment was in the
Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The
family received friends Saturday evening at the funeral home from 6
until 9 p.m.
The
following

Wayne
