Mr.
Eugene
McClure, age 51, of Town Mtn. Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Sunday,
Feb. 15,
2009 at his home following a long battle with cancer.
Mr. McClure was born on Aug. 6, 1957 in
Copperhill, TN, the son of Geneva Hyde McClure and the late Hadley
McClure. Eugene was a lifelong resident
of Union County. He owned and operated
McClure’s Trucking Company for the past several years.
Eugene was a very loving husband, father,
son, brother and grandfather. He loved
his family dearly. He was preceded in
death by a son, Matthew McClure and by his father Hadley McClure. Mr. McClure attended Cornerstone Baptist
church.
Surviving
Mr. McClure are his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Kellie Frasure
McClure
of Blairsville, two daughters and one son-in-law, Mandy and Steve
Davenport of
Blairsville, Ashley McClure of Blairsville, one son and
daughter-in-law, Andy
and Codie McClure of Blairsville, mother, Geneva McClure of
Blairsville, one
sister and brother-in-law, patsy and Charlie Padgett of Blairsville,
one
brother and sister-in-law, jimmy and Vicki McClure of Blairsville, four
grandchildren, Paedon Douglas Young, Kaenon Eugene Young, Jensen Reece
Davenport and Matthew Thomas McClure, many other relatives and friends
also
survive.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday, Feb 17, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Tully Griggs officiating.
Special music was presented by Chris Rumfelt, Melissa Collins,
Leslie
Hughes and Gloria Griggs. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers, Steve Byers, Brock Kelley, Keith
Holcomb, Bob
Head, Robin Seabolt and Harold Plott.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were McClure Trucking drivers. Interment followed in the Union Memory
Gardens Cemetery. The family met with
friends
at the funeral home on Monday evening
after 6 p.m.

Mr. Larry
Allen Coker, age 44, of Old Nichols Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Tuesday,
Feb. 17, 2009 following a brief illness.
Mr. Coker was born on June 16, 1964 in Union County, the son of
Richard
Coker and Barbara Butt Coker. He was a
native and lifelong resident of Union County.
Allen loved wood working and could build just about anything. He was a loving father, son, brother and was
a friend to many. Mr. Coker was of the
Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr.
Coker are his parents, Richard and Barbara Coker of Blairsville, one
daughter,
Leslie Paige Coker of Warner Robins, GA, one brother and sister-in-law,
Ronnie
and Retha Coke of Blairsville, one sister, Cathy Youngblood of
Blairsville, two
nieces and one nephew, Brittany, Cody and Emily, many other relatives
and
friends also survive.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at 1 p.m. from the Mountain View
Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Hood and Rev. Mike Richardson
officiating. Special music was presented
by Kelly Brewer,
Rhonda Hood, Junior and Carolyn Bridges and Pat McCall.
The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers, Wayne and Ricky Hughes, mike Richardson, Joel Miller, T.C.
Dearing
and Danny Owenby. Serving as honorary
pallbearers were Cody Youngblood, Jason Turner, Chris Owenby and Randy
Ledford. Interment followed in the Zebulon
Baptist
Church Cemetery. The family met with

Hermina
Sylvain, 101, died Feb. 20, 2009 at Union County Nursing Home,
Blairsville, GA,
of natural causes.
Born in
Fitchburg, MA, to Joseph & Clarina Dauphinais, she attended St.
Joseph
Catholic School. She married Joseph
Sylvain in 1927 in Fitchburg, MA. They
moved to Winter Haven, FL, in 1968. She
later moved to Blairsville, GA, in 1997.
She was a recipient of “The Second Wind Dream Award” at age 98. She celebrated her 100th birthday in
February, 2008 with a large family gathering.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winter
Haven, FL,
and St. Francis of Assisi catholic Church
in
Blairsville, GA.
She is
survived by her children, Jeannine Y.S. Theriault of
Sautee Nacoochee, GA; and Mark J. Sylvain (wife, Janice) of Bartow, FL;
seven
grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren;
a
brother, Edward Dauphinais of Sun Cit, AZ; and a sister, Lena Germain
of Sun
City, AZ.
She is
preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Clarina Dauphinais; her
husband,
Joseph Sylvain; a son, Albert J. Sylvain; a daughter, Rita C. Hough;
brothers,
Reme Dauphinais, Leon Dauphinais, Victor Dauphinais, Adelard
Dauphinais;
sisters, Margurette Trainque, Cecile Dauphinais, Sister Florina
Dauphinais, Ama
Dauphinais, Louise Dion, Alice Dion, and Roseanne Stevenson.
A memorial
mass will be said in her honor at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
in
Blairsville, GA, Feb. 28, 2009. Cochran Funeral Home, Blairsville, GA. A funeral mass will be said at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Winter Haven, FL, at a later date.
Interment will follow at Lakeside Memorial
Park Cemetery, Winter Haven, Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, winter Haven,

Mrs.
Sandra
Kay Copeland, age 63, of Jackson Heights, Blairsville passed away on
Tuesday,
Feb. 17, 2009 in the Saint Joseph’s Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Copeland was born on May 9, 1945 in
Jefferson, GA, the daughter of the late James T. Wood and the late
Essie
Samples Wood. Kay was a loving mother,
sister, grandmother and great-great grandmother. She
was a devoted Christian who loved her
Lord. She was preceded in death by her
beloved husband of forty years, Wayne Copeland in 2002.
Mrs. Copeland attended Youngstown Baptist
Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Copeland are one daughter and son-in-law,
Tammy and Louie Blasingame of Alpharetta, GA, tow sons and one
daughter-in-law,
Richard Copeland of Blairsville, Adam and Sarah Copeland of
Blairsville, one
brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Joyce Wood of Clarksville, one
sister and
brother-in-law, Joyce and Dr. James Dees of Dothan, AL, ten
grandchildren,
Chase, Jordan and Tyler Blasingame, Lacey Madrigal, Chelsea Kinnersley,
LeAnne,
Faith, Ty and Gracie Copeland and Ethan James, many other relatives and
friends
also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 from the Antioch Baptist
Church
with the Rev. Jonathan Hood, Rev. Brent Chatham, Rev. George Cline and
Dr.
David Gowder officiating. Special music
was presented by Danita Kenned, Lita Gowder and Rick Davenport. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers,
Chase, Tyler and Jordan Blasingame, Mike and Josh Copeland and Dusty
Arnold. Interment followed beside her
loving husband in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
William
“Bill” Smock, Sr., age 70, of Tanyard St., Blairsville formerly of
Bradenton,
FL, passed away
on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 in the Union County Nursing Home following
an
extended illness. Mr. Smock was born on
Sept. 3, 1939 the son of Robert and alma
Smock. He retired from Wellcraft Marine
Corp. of
Sarasota. He was devoted to youth
activities and was very active in Mayso Soccer, coaching for fourteen
years. Bill also coached Little League
for seven years. He was a Civilian
Advisor for the Manatee Sheriffs Cadets for four years.
He was a veteran of the US Navy. Mr.
Smock was of the Episcopal faith.
Surviving Mr.
Smock are his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Lynda Smock of
Blairsville, one
son and daughter-in-law, William “B.J.” and Lisa Smock of Blairsville,
three
grandchildren, Rebeka, William and Christopher, all of Blairsville,
three
sisters, Mildred Kormansek of Bradenton, FL, Debra Rowe of Ocala, FL,
Cynthia
Gettle of Brunswick, OH, many beloved nieces and nephews, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. from the
Mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Martin and Curtis Smock
officiating. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be
made to
Regency Hospice of Hiawassee. The family
will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11 a.m.
