mr. charles west

 

            Mr. Charles West, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, February 21, 1997 at his home. 

Mr. West was born in Gilmer County, Georgia, on December 1, 1913, a   son of the late James Oliver West and Lillie Etta Mulkey West.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.  Mr. West had been living in this area since  1970, coming back here from Sarasota, Florida.

            Surviving are his daughter, Sharon Stephens, of Blairsville;   son, Edward West of Blairsville, son, Harold West of Toccoa, GA., son, Michael West of Hiawassee, GA.; and sister, Belle Logan of Jacksonville, Florida.  Grandchildren and other relatives also survive.

            Funeral services were held Saturday, February 22, 1997 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Rayburn Wilson and Rev. Hughes Chatham officiating.  Graveside Military Honors were presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard, with interment in Union County Memory Gardens Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Georgia Affiliate, One Corporate Square, Suite 127, Atlanta, GA 30329.

mr. watson collins

 

            Mr. Watson Collins, age 92, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, February 22, 1997 in Union County Nursing Home an extended illness. 

Mr. Collins was born in Union County, Georgia, on January 1, 1905, a son of the late John Pruitt Collins and Martha Jackson Collins.  He was a lifelong resident of this area and had been a farmer and a carpenter.  Mr. Collins was a member of and longtime deacon of Choestoe Baptist Church.  Mr. Collins’ wife, Mert Shuler Collins, passed away in 1988.  

            Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Bill Hutson of Marietta, GA.; grandson and his wife, Jon and Jill Hutson of Powder Springs, GA.; granddaughter and her husband, Tamie Hutson Leach and Ken Leach, of Marietta, GA.; great grandchildren, Kelsey and Jonathan Hutson of Powder Springs, GA., and Justin and Jared Leach, of Marietta. 

            Funeral services were held Monday, February 24,  1997 at 11 a.m. from Choestoe Baptist Church with Rev. Troy Acree and Rev. James Geer officiating.  The Eulogy was presented by his grandson, Jon Hutson.  Special music was presented by Jo Mosley and John Hunt.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jon Hutson, Ken Leach, David Sedgwick, Dormas Sullivan, Cecil Lance, and Tom Elrod.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was all deacons of Choestoe Baptist Church along with C.R. Collins, Albert Winn, Wallace MOSLEY, and Blueford (sic) Dyer.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Georgia Sheriff’s Boys Ranch or to Choestoe Cemetery Fund.

mr. james wayne dover

 

            Mr. James Wayne Dover, age 58, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, February 18,k 1997. 

Mr. Dover was born in Union County, Georgia, on September 15, 1939, a son of Desma Collins Dover and the late Rass James Dover.  He was a lifelong resident of this area.   

            Surviving are his mother, Desma Dover of Blairsville; his sister, Alene Nix of Flowery Branch, GA.; an aunt, Beulah Collins Thomas of Lemoore, California; nephew and is wife, Leon and Sandra Nix of Gainesville, GA., and nephews, Bruce Nix of Homer, GA.; niece and her husband, Gail and Ricky Barrett of Gainesville, GA.; two great nieces, Tara Nix and Cynthia Barrett; great nephews, John Barrett, all of Gainesville. 

            Funeral services were held Thursday, February 20, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Shockley officiating.  Special music was presented by Mrs. Sarah Kelley.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mac Collins, Larry Dyer, Crett Dyer, Leon Nix, Ricky Barrett, and Julius Collins.  Interment was in Hood’s Chapel Cemetery in Union County.

mrs. pauline jones sisum

 

            Mrs. Pauline Jones Sisum, age 82, of The Life Care Center in Ducktown, Tennessee, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, February 17, 1997. 

Mrs. Sisum was born in Union County, Georgia on October 17, 1914, a daughter of the late Arthur Zelve Jones and Carrie Rhodes Jones.  She was a homemaker and was a member of the Young cane church of God.  Mrs. Sisum was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Boon Sisum, who died in 1982.  

            Surviving are daughter,  Mary R. McKinney, of West Palm Beach, FL; son, Howard Sisum; daughter, Regina Whitener, daughter, Martha Satterfield, and daughter Betty L. Jones and son, William Sisum, all of Blairsville; brothers, James Arnold  Jones and John W. Jones, of Blairsville and Ronny Jones of Ducktown, TN.; sixteen grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 19, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Sonny Moats and Rev. William Sisum, and Rev. Terrell Jones officiating.  Mrs. Sisum was eulogized by her daughter, Martha Satterfield.  Special music was presented by the Moats Family.  Grandsons served as pallbearers.  Interment was in Liberty Hill Methodist Cemetery.
