Mrs. Velma Maude
Lovell, age 78, of Dogwood Dr., Blairsville passed away at her home on
Monday,
February 18, 2013 following and extended illness. She was born
September 3,
1934 in Blairsville to the late Lester and Bertha Kendall Butt. She was
preceded in death by, her husband, Henry Lovell in 1985, sons: Terry
Brewer,
Chipper Brewer and Michael Brewer, grandson, Travis Brewer, sisters,
Estelle
Butt and Geraldine Goolsby, brothers, Claude Butt, Sylvia Butt and
Clinton
Butt. Mrs. Lovell was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons: Danny and Rita Butt of Blairsville, GA, Ricky
and Judy
Brewer of Cumming, GA and Jeff and Wilcey Brewer of Gainesville, GA,
sisters:
Retha Dills and Gladys Higgins both of Blairsville, GA, grandchildren:
Kevin
Brewer, Jamie Montgomery, Greg Brewer, Amanda Brewer, Melissa Brewer,
Matthew
Brewer, Terry Brewer, Keith and Kelly Brewer and Tabitha Brewer,
step-grandchildren: Stephanie Holmes, Jimmy Powell, Rachel and Junior
Phillips
and Michael Davis, great grandchildren: Dustin Montgomery, Megan
Montgomery,
Chase Brewer, Lakelan Brewer, Peyton Brewer and Kaley Brewer, several
nieces,
nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2013 at
Mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.
Pallbearers were
Aaron Dills, Jimmy Powell, Jacob Dills, Josh Dills, Jonathan Dills and
Terry
Brewer. Interment followed in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family
received friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 9
p.m.

Carolyn Elizabeth
Holland, age 71 of Murphy Hwy., Blairsville passed away Wednesday,
February 20,
2013 at her home. She was born June 24, 2013 (sic) in Atlanta, GA to
the late
Hoke S. and Ina Mae Rogers Akins, and had lived in this area for the
past 30
years. She was a loving mother and friend, also loved flowers.
Suvivors (sic) include her daughter, Angie Holland of Blairsville,
aunt,
Catherine Nicholson of Blairsville, cousins, Robert and Teresa Turner
of
Blairsville, Mike Akins of Blairsville, many other relatives and
friends.
There
will be a gathering for family and friends at Mountain View Funeral
Home on
Monday evening from 6 until 7 p.m.

Sabrina Rose Durbin, 6 months of
age, child of Bryce Edward and Vivienne Durbin, of Rome, GA, formerly
of
Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at Egleston
Children's
Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Sabrina was loved so much,
especially by her family: parents, Bryce and Vivienne; big brother,
Samuel
Bryce Durbin; paternal grandparents, Ed and Doris Durbin, of
Blairsville;
maternal grandfather, Bob Edwards of Marietta, GA; and paternal great
grandfather, Floid Schneider, of Blairsville; many other relatives and
many
friends also survive. Sabrina's maternal grandmother, Judy Edwards, and
her
paternal great grandmother, Wilmoth Schneider, preceded her in death.
The family met with friends at
Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville on Thursday, February 21, 2013,
between the
hours of 11 a.m., until 1 p.m. Graveside services were held on
Thursday,
February 21, 2013 at 2 p.m., at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, with
Rev. Bob
Crowe officiating.

Mr. Douglas Wayne
Galloway, age 73, of Blairsville, GA and formerly of Cedartown, GA,
passed away
on Thursday, February 14, 2013 following a brief illness. Mr. Galloway
was born
on September 3, 1939 in Cedartown, GA the son of the late Mr. Olin
Jefferson
Galloway and the late Mrs. Mary Williams Galloway. In addition to his
parents
he was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law; Barbara
Wheeler
and Glenn Wheeler. He was retired from Delta Airlines where he worked
for
twenty-seven plus years as a mechanic. He was a United States Veteran,
proudly
serving with the U.S. Army for seven years. He was a member of the
Lions Club
of Towns County, a member of the American Legion and a member of the
Retired
Civil Air Patrol of Union County. Mr. Galloway was a member of the
Community
Chapel of Rome, GA and had been attending the House of Prayer in
Blairsville,
GA.
Douglas Wayne Galloway
is survived by his loving wife; Maria Creanga Galloway, a son; Robert
Ellis
Galloway of Macon, stepson; John Dawkins of North Carolina, his
stepdaughters:
Carmen and Traian Ghidu of Lawrenceville and Daniela and Marius Lupu of
Germany, his sisters and brothers-in-law; Gwen and Jerry Camp of
Cedartown,
Brenda and Herman Watson of Cave Spring and Janie and Jim McConnell of
Young
Harris, GA, his grandchildren: Joshua and Nicholas Ghidu, Brittany,
Meghan,
Courtney and R.J. Galloway. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins
also
survive.
Funeral services for
Mr. Douglas Wayne Galloway were conducted on Monday, February 18, 2013
at 2
p.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev.
Bud Davis
officiating. Interment followed in the Polk Memory Gardens with full
military
honors being conducted by the Brewster - Cleveland Post 86 Honor Guard.
The
family received friends on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 12 noon until
the
funeral hour at the Litesey Funeral Home.
Flowers will be
accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the Food Pantry of
Towns
County.

The Reverend Genaro J. Testa,
91, formerly of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17,
2013 at
Union General Hospital in Blairsville, GA.
Born on March 28, 1921 in Hartford, to the late Joseph and Vita
(Pezzullo)
Testa he grew up in the Wilson section of Windsor and was the first
parishioner
of St. Gertrude Church to be ordained a priest.
He studied for the priesthood at both Saint Thomas Seminary in
Bloomfield and Saint Mary's Seminary in Baltimore.
Father Testa was ordained on May 15, 1947, at
Cathedral of Saint Joseph, Hartford, by the Most Reverend Henry J.
O'Brien. He served as Assistant pastor
at Sacred Heart in Stamford, St. Mary Church in Derby, St. Mary Church
in
Windsor Locks, St. Mary Church in East Hartford, St. Ann church in
Hamden, Our
Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Waterbury, and Holy Rosary Church in
Ansonia. He was the administrator and
Co-Pastor of St.
Vincent de Paul Church in East Haven.
Father Testa was appointed Parish Priest of St. Andrew's Church
in
Watertown in 1980 and retired from the Hartford Archdiocese in 1987,
when he
moved to Florida and served as the Priest of St. Andrews's Church in
Cape
Coral, FL. Father Testa served as the
Chaplain of the CT State Police, the Italian American Club in Cape
Coral, FL,
and the New Haven County Sheriff's Association
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi, Blairsville. He is survived by many loving nieces and
nephews,
and his longtime friend and caregiver, Diane Hopf and her husband
Jeffrey of
Young Harris, GA and Susan Colvard.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers:
Pasquale, John,
James, and Frank Testa, and his sisters: Vera Testa, Cecilia Parson,
Mary
Deronk, Ann MacNeil, and Margaret Russo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most
Reverend Henry
J. Mansell, Archbishop of Hartford, at 11 AM Friday, March 1, at St.
Gertrude
Church, 550 Manianuck Ave, Windsor, followed by burial in Mount St.
Benedict
Cemetery, Bloomfield. His body will lie
in state prior to the Mass on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at
the
church. Carmon Funeral Homes in Windsor

Mr. Marion Shane
McClure, age 42, of Blue Ridge Hwy., Blairsville passed away Friday,
February
22, 2013 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was
born April 17, 1970 in Lawrenceville, GA and was a lifelong resident of
Union
and Towns Counties. Shane loved to collect rocks. He attended
Friendship
Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Karlsson of Hiawassee, children,
Austin
McClure and Jocalyn McClure both of Lawrenceville, sister, Belinda
Shook and
her fiancé, Brian Childress of Young Harris, grandmother, Lois Moss of
Hiawassee, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 24, 2013 at
Friendship
Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Abernathy and Rev. Tommy Thomas
officiating.
Music was by Benny Cross, Dale and Keith Culberson. Pallbearers were
Eddie
Carroll, Joe Youngblood, Danny Moss, Brian Childress, Roger Youngblood,
Michael
Ledford and Paul Moss. The family received friends at the funeral home
Saturday
evening from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers make memorial

Mr. James Vester Dyer, age 82 of
Newnan, dies at his residence on February 15, 2013. He was born
in
Blairsville, Georgia on May 15, 1930 to the late Cart Dyer and Pearl
Duckworth
Dyer. He served his country in the United States Army and retired
from
General Motors. James was an avid bingo player. He was
preceded in
death by father, Cart Dyer; Mother, Pearl Duckworth Dyer; sisters,
Tannie Dyer
Collins and Maudie Dyer Shuler; brothers, Elbert and Clyde Dyer.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian
Lowman Dyer; brother Herbert Dyer (Anita) and sister, Ruby Nell Cook
(Eugene)
all of Blairsville; Stepsons, Roy Lawrence of McDonough and Kenneth
Lawrence of
Franklin; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 4 great-great
grandchildren;
numerous nieces and nephews,

p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with Rev.
Timothy
Hammett officiating. Interment followed at Sherwood Memorial
Park.

Mr. Max
Merton Oswald, age 87, of Loudermilk
Rd., Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Union
General
Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born March 21, 1925 in Baldwin, MI to the late Charles A.
and
Letha A. (Crandal) Oswald. Mr. Oswald
was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and retired in 1974 as a Senior Chief
Petty
Officer with over 28 years of service.
He loved woodworking and making things with his hands and spent
his last
summer making and painting birdhouses.
he loved animals and was a wonderful father and grandfather. Mr. Oswald was preceded in death by a sister,
Evelyn Hall, and a baby brother. he was
of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his children, M.
Perry and Sandy Oswald of Philadelphia, PA, Rosemarie and Peter
Birdwell of
Murphy, NC, Fredrick and Emma Oswald of Lakeland, FL and Lisa and Rick
Oswald
Davis of Blairsville. He has eight
grandchildren: Peter Oswald, Desiree Oswald, Gabe Davis, Robert
Neblett,
Richard Neblett, Ronald Neblett, Sherri Birdwell and Kristopher Oswald
and ten
great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday,
February 23, 2013 at Meadow View Cemetery.
