vincent j. beale

 

Mr. Vincent J. Beale, age 84, of Blairsville, GA, died on Monday, February 19, 2007 Vincent was born on March 29, 1922 in Detroit, MI.  He was a resident of Blairsville for the past twenty-six years.  He graduated from Detroit Catholic High School; he then attended Wayne State University briefly before enlisting in the US Air Force where he served three years with the 8th Air Force in England.  He was a lead Bombadier with 23 missions as a first Lt. Vincent and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Upon returning to the States he joined the City of Detroit Fire Dept. serving 23 years.  He retired as a Captain in 1978 and moved to Blairsville with his wife Gwenn.

Survivors include his wife Gwenn; three daughters Judith Chabala and husband Barry of Canton, MI, Nancy Beale Grisel and husband Christopher of Cedar City, UT, and Cynthia O’Brien and husband Daniel of Belleville, MI; two step-children Kay Anderson of Jupiter, FL and Christian Anderson and wife Susan of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law Gordon Fuller and wife Patricia and their five sons, many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.

Mr. Beale was preceded in death by brothers Robert, Albert, John (Jackie) and a sister Dorothy.

Funeral services for Mr. Beale were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007 from the St. Fabian Catholic Church in Farmington Hills, MI.  Interment followed in the Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery.  The family received friends from 2 til 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the McCabe Funeral Home in Farmington Hills, MI.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice, P.O. Box 580, Jasper, GA 30143 or Detroit Catholic HIGH School.

ruth eleanor palmer

 

Mrs. Ruth Eleanor Palmer, age 86, of Jones Creek Rd. Blairsville, formerly of Port Ritchie, FL, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2007 in the Murphy Medical Center following an extended illness.  Mrs. Palmer was born on December 31, 1920 in Brockton, MA, the daughter of the late Clarence Garnett and the late Agnus Inquist Garnett.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. palmer in 2001; one son, William Palmer Jr.; a sister, Maraim Day; three brothers, Earl, Clarence Jr. and Ronald Garnett.  Mrs. Palmer was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Palmer are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Phillip and Ann Palmer of Sun City, AZ and Marshall Palmer of Abbington, MA; one brother, Neil Garnett of Statesville, NC; one sister, Faith Woods of Plymouth, MA; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American heart Association in Mrs. Palmer’s memory.

edna shope colwell

 

Mrs. Edna Shope Colwell, age 91, a native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, February 19, 2007 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville.  Mrs. Colwell was born Friday, March 12, 1914 in Union County, GA to the late Chumley Shope and the late Maggie Everett Shope.  Mrs. Colwell was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Colwell and a son, Vaughn Colwell.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Reid and Dora Colwell; son and daughter-in-law, Haskin and Austine Colwell; daughter-in-law, Jackie Colwell, all of Blairsville; sisters, Ina Belle Voyles of Carnesville, GA, and Eva Bowers of Blairsville; granddaughters: Annette Colwell, Gina Sullivan, and Paige Swartz; grandsons, Trannis Colwell and Joe Colwell, all of Blairsville; 12 great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Vernon Davenport and rev. Kenny Beavers officiating.  Music was provided by The Faith Sinters.  Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Joe Colwell, Trannis Colwell, Earl Sullivan, Toby Swartz, Lloyd Voyles and Randy Shope.  Honorary pallbearers included: Bryan Mason, Rufus Everett, Jerry Everett, Wayne Everett, Worth mason and Charles Hughes.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Tuesday, February 20.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

linda pickelsimer allen

 

Mrs. Linda Pickelsimer Allen, age 58, of Old Shope Farm Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 from injuries received in a house fire.  Mrs. Allen was born on January 17, 1949 in Union County, the daughter of the late Howard Pickelsimer and the late Wilma Shope Pickelsimer.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  She grew up on her family farm, where she and her family raised chickens.  When she married Lloyd, they continued the family business for many years.  She also worked for Georgia Boot for several years.  She and her husband owned and operated, A & D Garbage Service for the last several years.  Linda was a loving wife and a friend to all who knew her, she never met a stranger.  One of Linda’s favorite past times was fishing, which she was rather good at, and also, she loved her gardening and canning and preserving what she grew  Mrs. Allen was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Allen are her loving husband of forty-two years, Lloyd Allen of Blairsville; two aunts, Eva Shope Bowers of Blairsville, Ina Belle Voyles of Blairsville; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the rev. Ric Hurd and Rev. Bryan Mason officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelly Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Randy Shope, Terry Pickelsimer, Ronnie Davis, Caleb, Casey and Cody Bearden.  Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

RONALD DYER

 

Mr. Ronald Dyer, age 69, of Weaver Circle Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, Feburary 18, 2007 in Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Dyer was born on October 29, 1937 in Union County the son of the late Samuel Riley Dyer and the late Ruby Hazel Reid Dyer.  He was employed as a Mason by trade and was well known all over the county, especially for his rock laying.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  Mr. Dyer was a member of union Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Dyer are his loving wife of forty-six years, Rachel Harkins Dyer of Blairsville; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Audrey and Frank Reynolds, Jr. of Blairsville, Connie (Dyer) and David Key of Young Harris, Tammy Dyer of Blairsville, Jayme and Eric Dills of Young Harris; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Wanda Dyer of jasper, Donald Dyer of Birmingham, AL, Mark and Mandy Dyer of Blairsville; one sister, Shelby Everett of Blairsville, thirteen grandchildren, Michael, Christopher and Riley Dyer, Lucy Ingram, Rachel Dyer, R.L. Key, Cassie, Kevin and Presley Dyer, Jodie Seabolt, Eli Dills, Isiah and Lexie Dyer; five great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Special music was presented by John Nix.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Michael, Chris, Ronnie and Kevin Dyer, Labron Lewicki, R.L. Key, John McKean and Mitchell Ingram.  Interment followed in the Owltown Church of God Cemetery.

matha mildred brown souther

 

Mrs. Martha Mildred Brown Souther, age 69, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, February 24, 207, following an extended illness.  Mrs. Souther was born Friday, April 16, 1937 in Cherokee County, NC, to the late Wayne Brown and the late Willie Mae Chastain Brown.  Mrs. Souther was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of this area.  She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.

Survivors include: husband, Suell Souther; son and daughter-in-law, rev. Bryan and Helen Souther; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Vernon Barnes; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Stanley Stepp, all of Blairsville; grandchildren, Amber and Matthew Gibson, Monica and Tony Gilbert, Brad and Nicole Barnes, Dana and Adam Fleming, Kerri Barnes, Derek and Nicky Stepp, Joshua Stepp and Kasey Stepp, all of Blairsville and great-grandchildren, Samuel and Micah Gilbert and Hunter Fleming.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 26, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with the Rev. Guy Wayne Shook and the Rev.  Tony Couch officiating.  Music was provided by Becky Rogers.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen:  Tony Gilbert, Brad Barnes, Adam Fleming, Matthew Gibson, Derek Stepp, Joshua Stepp, Samuel Gilbert and Micah Gilbert.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 109, Sunday, February 25.

jeffrey carroll

 

Mr. Jeffery Carroll, age 42, of Carroll Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2007in the Fannin Regional Hospital following injuries received in an automobile accident.  Mr. Carroll was born on Janurary 11, 1965 in Union County the son of the late Earl Harvey Carroll and the late Lucy Mae Smith Carroll. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Newman Carroll in 1998.  Mr. Carroll was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Carroll are four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ralph and Brenda Carroll of Blairsville, David and Diane Carroll of Blairsville, Junior Carroll of Blairsville, Clyde and Donna Carroll of Blairsville; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Archie Patterson of Blairsville, Faye and Evin Patterson of Blairsville, Kathy and Donnie Queen of Canton, GA, Cindy and Tommy Queen of Blairsville, Rachel and Steve Woodin of FL, dale and Jim Pressley of Murphy, NC; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at 4 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the rev. Hubert Legg and rev. William Sisum officiating.  Special music was presented by Hubert Legg and the faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Tim Kirtley, Gary Jones, Willie Kerr, Michael Carroll, Wess Carroll and Darrell Allen.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ray Shook, Alvin Towe, Junior Grahm, Coty Carroll and Skip McKeral.  Interment followed in the Dillard Chapel Cemetery.
