Mary
Blaine, age 78, of Suches, GA, passed away
Friday,
February 24, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Blaine was born Tuesday, August 7,
1933 in
Saluda, SC, to the late Harry Stoudemire
and the late
Lila Belle Seay Stoudemire.
She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches.
Mrs Blaine had been very active in her
church and
community. She volunteered for over 20 years with the Appalachian
Crisis
Pregnancy Center. She also was a patron of the Chestatee
Animal Hospital in Dahlonega. Another of her joys was to fill boxes of
Christmas gifts for children in the Georgia Baptist Children's Home.
Each year,
she would fill 100 or more boxes to donate. Mrs. Blaine was preceded in
death
by her husband, Turner Horsley Blaine in 1988.
Mrs.
Blaine was dearly loved, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her
-especially her family: daughter, Linda Kay (Don) Roane of Cleveland,
GA; son,
Michael T. (Cynthia) Blaine of Buford, GA; daughter, Shelia Faye
(Bobby) Page
of Cleveland, GA; son, Clayton (Nancy) Blaine of Dahlonega; son,

(Janet) Blaine of Washington, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Edna and
Earl
Gibson of Franklin, NC; brother, H. C. Stoudemire,
Jr., also of Franklin; grandchildren, David Roane, Mark Roane, Michelle
Mason,
Melissa Lacquement, Todd Blaine, and
Ashley Plillabaum, and great
grandchildren, Kari Roane, Sara
Roane, Jeremy G. Roane, Gabriel Mason, Samuel Mason, Blaine Lacquement,
Belle Lacquement, Brylle

services for Mary were held on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. at
the Mt.
Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches with the
Rev.
Clarence Drummond officiating.

Mrs.
Lisa Hassfurder Skomp,
age
60, of State Hwy. 325, Blairsville, passed away Saturday, February 25,
2012 at
Union General Hospital after a brief illness. She was born August 8,
1951 in
New Castle, IN to the late Walter L. and Virginia Ellen Mott Hassfurder. Lisa was Owner/Broker with Cozy Cove
Realty
since 1998, and owned and operated Cozy Cove Marina and General Store
and
Butternut Creek Ice Cream and Putt Putt
Golf. She was
a retired school teacher from Murphy Elementary School System. Lisa was
of the
Presbyterian Faith.
Survivors
include her husband, Victor Howden of
Murphy,
children, Sarah Skomp and her fiancé, Scot
Sisum of Blairsville, Matt Skomp
and his fiancé, Shonda Jones of Murphy,
sister, Linda
and Merv Vater
of Stockton,
CA, her in-laws, Victor H. and Iva Howden

Mr.
Gerard Duffe, age 80, of Blairsville, GA,
passed away
on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at his home. Mr. Duffe
was born in Hempstead, NY on Tuesday, September 1, 1931 to the late
Christopher
& Stella Wienkle Duffe.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and served during the
Korean War.
Gerard moved to Blairsville in 1994 from Miami, FL. He served 25 years
as a
Police Officer for the City of Miami Police Department and 10 years as
a Sergeant
for the Broward County Sheriff's Office. He was preceded in death by
his wife,
Gladys "Babe" Duffe; his parents; brother,
Kevin Duffe; sister, Delores Moses and a
grandson,
Andrew Howard.
He
will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him but especially missed
by his
family: daughter, Linda Kirby of Young Harris; daughter &
son-in-law, Susan
& Bob Howard of Milton FL; daughter & son-in-law, Annie &
Jack
Powell of Blairsville; grandchildren, Sue Ann Clayton, Jamie Blalock,
Mary Plott, Elizabeth Guiterez,
Melissa Perkins, Joseph Howard, Katie Williams, Ashley Powell, Abby
Powell and
Jack Connor Powell; and 9 great grandchildren.

Hilary
Dear was born in Newark, NJ on January 25, 1948. She moved to Vero
Beach, FL
with her mother, Constance Moore, and her grandparents. She grew up in
Vero
Beach and graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1967. A little while
later
she got a job at Piper Aircraft. Following that she got a job at Aeran Jewelers. There she met the love of her
life, Robert
Dear. They got married on February 22, 1986. They opened their own
business,
Dear Manufacturing Jewelers. Hilary was the sales consultant and pearl
specialist and Robert was the head jeweler. They built a vacation home
in
Blairsville, GA in 1987. In 1993, Hilary and Robert adopted their
grandchild,
Lisa Dear. They retired and moved to Blairsville in 1998.
Hilary
loved reading, the ocean, crafts, writing, and most of all her two
dogs, Abby
and Little Joe.
Survivors
are her daughter, Lisa, step sons, Wayne and Norman Dear, and step
daughter,
Nancy.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dear on October 27, 2007.
Hilary
died peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2012.
There
will be a Celebration of Live service held at Young Harris College
Chapel on
March 3rd at 10 a.m. with a reception afterwards in the Student Center.

Mrs.
Henrietta “Penny” Padgett, age 82, of Owltown
RD,
Blairsville, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012 at her home
following an
extended illness. Penny was born on February 8, 1930 in Rochester, NY
to the
late Carl and Shirley Doherty Holt. She had lived here since 1993
moving here
from Lakeworth, FL. Penny was a member of
the
National Mental Health Association, American Association for Counseling
and
Development, The American Registry, Association for Religious and Value
Issues,
North American Association of Christians in Social Work, The National
Association for Female Executives, Advisor, United States Congressional
Advisory Bord (sic), Florida Association
of
Psychologists, Psychotherapists, and Counselors, National Association
of Social
Workers, American Mental Health Counselors Association, Honor Society:
Phi
Kappa Phi. Penny was preceded in death by her husband, George Padgett.
She was
a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving
Penny are her caregiver and friend, Nancy Townsend of Blairsville, and
a host
of other friends also survive.
Memorial
services will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in
Queen of
Peace Catholic Cemetery in West Palm Beach, FL.

Mr.
William Price Logan, age 75, of Souther
Forest Rd.,
Blairsville passed away, Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Embracing
Hospice in
Cumming, GA following an extended illness. He was born March 25, 1936
in
Philadelphia, PA to the late John and Agnes Maude Logan. He was a
professional
engineer with Sandwell International. Mr.
Logan had
lived here for 17 years moving here from Marietta. He served on the
board and
was project manager for many years for Habitat for Humanity. He was an
AARP Tax
Aide Advisor. Mr. Logan was a scuba diver, square dancer and down hill skier. He was preceded in death by a
sister,
Alice Weinhard and a brother, Jack Logan.
Mr. Logan
was of the Methodist Faith.
Survivors
include his wife of 55 years, Sharon K. Logan of Blairsville, children,
Laura
Jeanne and her husband Jon Murray of Denver, CO and Douglas C. Logan of
Boston,
MA, twin brother, Wallace and Alice Logan of Orcas Island, WA,
grandchildren
Colleen and Timothy Murray, several nieces and nephews.

Vincent Michael Karavitch, age 74, of
Caldwell Rd.,
Blairsville passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in Erlanger Medical
Center
in Chattanooga. He was born February 19, 1938 in Wilkes Berre,
PA to the late William and Julia Yankowski
Karavitch. He moved here 11 ˝ years ago
from Marietta. He
loved gardening, his animals and traveling. Mr. Karavitch
was a loving husband and father. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and was of
the
Catholic Faith.

Eugene Albert Sanderlin, age 86, of Low
Creek Lane,
Blairsville passed away, Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Northeast Georgia
Medical
in Gainesville following a brief illness. Mr. Sanderlin
was born February 17, 1926 in San Pedro, CA to the late Paul Roy and
Grace
Williams Sanderlin. He had owned property
here since
1986 and moved here in 2011. He was a WWII and Korean U.S. Army Air
Corps
veteran. Mr. Sanderlin was a member of the
Canaveral
Masonic Lodge #330 F&AM, Scottish Rite and a Shriner.
He was of the Methodist Faith. Mr. Sanderlin
was
preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Sanderlin
in
1997, a son, Jeffrey E. Sanderlin in 2001,
and his
wife, Zona Sanderlin
in
1995.

Mr.
James “Larry” Spiva, age 64, of Hoot Owl
Hill,
Blairsville passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at his home
following an
extended illness. He was born October 24, 1947 in Blairsville to the
late Guy
Cook and Bessie Duckworth Spiva. He was a
mason by
trade, and enjoyed working, deer hunting and fishing. Larry was
preceded in
death by brothers, Ed, Walt, Leon, Ulric
and Paul,
sisters, Willa Mae, Dot and Shirley. He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors
include his wife, Elaine Spiva of
Blairsville,
children, Chris (Julie) Spiva of Lavonia,
Keya (Brent
West) Bradley of Blairsville, James Byron (Darlene) Spiva
of Blairsville, Jon Spiva of Hiawassee,
Michelle
Lance Phillips of Greensboro, NC, brother, John Spiva
of Canton, GA, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the
Mountain View
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Anderson and Rev. Gary Ashe
officiating.
Music was by Amos and Ruth Patterson and Peggy Patrick. Pallbearers
were Eugene
Ashe, Amos Patterson, Nathan Bradley, Ricky Spiva,
Ronnie Maney, Tyler Staats,
Daryl King and Rex Patterson. Interment was in Shady Grove Methodist
Cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday after 6 p.m.
