mr. roy willie bingham

 

Mr. Roy Willie Bingham, age 88 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 20066 at Union County Nursing Home.  Mr. Bingham was born Monday, October 15, 1917 in Union County, GA to the late Jim and Maggie (Anderson) Bingham.  Mr. Bingham was a member of Dooley Masonic Lodge F&AM #367, and Nottley Chapter of The Order of the Eastern Star.  He was preceded in death by wife, Dovie (Towe) Bingham; and daughters Ellen Moore and Dovie Dyer.

Survivors include: daughter, Blanche Patterson of Blairsville; daughter, Mary Holbrook of Blairsville; daughter, Sarah Anderson of Blairsville; daughter, Betty Brewer of Blairsville; daughter, Bonnie Tolliver of Blairsville; daughter, Diane Simmons of Cleveland, GA; son, Roy L. Bingham of Blairsville; son, Joe Bingham of Hiawassee Dam, NC; son, Tony Bingham of North Carolina; sister, Ruby King of Acworth, GA, brother jasper Bingham of Canton, GA; sixteen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 23, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Abbott and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Music was provided by Charlotte Garrett, Teresa Wehunt, Jimmy Wehunt and Hubert Moss.  Interment was in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites provided by Allegheny Masonic Lodge F&AM #114.  Pallbearers were Jack Moore, Keith Donaldson, Dwayne Patterson, Albert Garrett, jay Lynch, and Jacob Lynch.

Mrs. Antoinette Rusk

 

Mrs. Antoinette Rusk, age 63, of pat Colwell Rd., Blairsville passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Rusk was born on March 15, 1942 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of the late Glenn Brookins and the late Alma Gurnack Brookins.  Mrs. Rusk, along with her husband, Jack have been living in Blairsville for the past twenty-five years, moving here from Florida.  Mrs. Rusk attended the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mrs. Rusk are her loving husband, jack Rusk of Blairsville, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Floyd and Martha Rusk of Buford, GA, Robert and Debbie Rusk of Blairsville, Steven Rusk of Blairsville, one daughter, Dorothy Rusk of Blairsville, three brothers and one sister-in-law, Bubsey and Carol Brookins of Miami, FL, Michael Brookins of Florida, Robert Brookins of FL, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  The family met with friends following the services at the funeral home.

mr. donald andrew kemp

 

Mr. Donald Andrew Kemp, age 60, of Blairsville, GA passed away on Monday, February 20, 2006 following an extended battle with rheumatoid arthritis due to a massive coronary.  He was born on Aug. 22, 1945 in Swannanoa, NC, the son of the late Colonel George A. and Lucille Tucker Kemp.  He was the second of three children.  He bounced around the state during his formative years from Milledgeville then later to Augusta with his family.  He left home at the age of thirteen to attend Carlisle Military Academy, and the attended Georgia Institute of Technology, majoring in Engineering.

In his younger years, Don was a member of Cypress Gardens Ski team, a Scout master, placed second in the Georgia Car rodeo, was instrumental in starting the Fayette County Soccer League, and served as its president for seven years.  Don was the consummate outdoorsman whose passions covered a wife range of activities, including hunting, deep sea fishing, gardening, hiking, kayaking, snow skiing and water skiing.

As rheumatoid arthritis placed greater strains on him physically, Don never let it slow him down, he served in numerous roles at his church, First United Methodist of Blairsville, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Methodist Men, etc.  You could often find Don wandering the halls at night making sure that everything was turned off and locked up, or out working on the grounds.  He also served on the Board of the Boy Scouts for Union County.

Don left an indelible impression of everyone he met, as if he had known you for his entire life.  His life was one of conviction in his beliefs and love for his family and friends.

Surviving Don are his loving and devoted wife of forty years, Eva Tolliver Kemp of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Maria Kemp of Duluth, GA, two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Cecilia Kemp of Augusta, Dr. Doug and Dr. Ginny kemp of Athens, many other relatives and friends also survive.  He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Lee Kemp in 1985.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 24, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville with the Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Special music was presented by Jeff Bauman, John Sutton and Don Bailey.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Greg Buchanan, Tommy Jordan, Keith Warren, Terry Legg, Keith Bryant, Frank Mullen and Doug Kemp.  Interment and graveside services followed at 4 p.m. from the Camp memorial Cemetery in Fayetteville, GA.

sara rogers carmon

 

Sara Rogers Carmon, age 88, of Knoxville, TN, formerly of Blairsville, GA passed away February 2, 2006 after a long illness.  She was a 1936 graduate of Union County High and graduated in 1939 from Knoxville General Hospital School of Nursing.  She was a member of Washington Pike Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN; a member of Christian Service Sunday School Class, the Women’s Service Guild and XYZ Club.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James S. Carmon “Jay” and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Olin F. Wellborn of Blairsville, GA.

Survivors are two sons, James F. Carmon and wife Nancy of Knoxville, TN,  Robert E. Carmon and wife Elizabeth of Cleveland, TN; four grandchildren: Craig Carmon and wife Gaye of Nashville, TN, Jeffery Carmon and wife Zelta of Spartanburg, SC, Chad Reynolds and wife Sommer of Cleveland, TN, Brett Carmon and wife Brittany of Chattanooga, TN; three great grandchildren, Hayden, Emma and Samuel Carmon; two brothers, James W. Rogers and wife Lenore of Fayetteville, NC, Foster Wellborn of Lawrenceville, GA; two sisters, Helen W. Owenby of Blairsville, GA and Eleanor W. Lee and husband Hugh lee of Blairsville, GA.  Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  She was loved by everyone who ever met her.  She had a very sweet outgoing personality.  Sara spent her life caring for her family and friends with so much devotion.

Funeral services were held at Roses Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. on February 4, 2006 with interment in Sherwood memorial Garden; Dr. James Bailes  officiating in Knoxville, TN.

miss ruby nan auberry

 

Miss Ruby Nan Auberry, age 91, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at New Horizons West Nursing Home.  Miss Auberry was born Saturday, January 23, 1915 in Union County, GA to the late William and Elizabeth (Van Hook) Auberry.  She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.  Miss Auberry was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Auberry, sisters, Zelma Marie Auberry and Cosby Auberry.

Survivors include: cousins, Floyd and Corrine Little of Culberson, NC, Rev. Loys and Mazie Waters of Morganton, GA, Edith Waters of Morganton, GA, special friends, Ford and Marie Ash of Hiawassee, GA, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 23, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Loys Waters, Rev. Ford Ash, Jr., officiating.  Music was by Valarie Taylor.  Interment was in oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Tom Stabell, Larry Pilgram, Richmond Lance, Jimmy Wood, Scott Kapetains, Jimmy.  Honorary pallbearer was Ford Ash.

mrs. abbie lee smith little

 

Mrs. Abbie Lee Smith Little, age 80, of Seays Rd., Austell, GA, formerly of Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 following an extended illness.  Mrs. Little was born on Sept. 18, 1925 in Union County, the daughter of the late Moody Smith and the late Ira Botts Smith.  She had retired from Kennestone Hospital as a surgical technician after twenty-eight years of service.  She was a Rosie Riveter during WWII.  She was a member of the National Assoc, of Surgical Technologist and past President of the local chapter.  She was preceded in death by her husband,  Louin John Little in 2003.  Mrs. Little was a member of Bethany Baptist Church of Blairsville and then became a member of the Gospel Light Community Church, EMC.

Surviving Mrs. Little are one daughter, Debra Truett of Austell, one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Marlene Little of Huntsville, AL, two sisters, Maxine Jones of Blairsville, Evelyn Hogsed of Blairsville, three grandchildren, Allen Truett of Roswell, GA, Kyle Little and Lindsey Little both of Huntsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Schuller officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Alan Truett, Mike Little, Kyle Little, James Ezell, Tom Truett and Gary Hogsed.  Interment followed in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
