mrs. miriam louise walton

 

Miriam Louise Walton, age 83, of Blairsville, GA passed away Monday, February 21, 2005.

Miriam was born Saturday, October 8, 1921, in Dade County, FL, to the late Chester and Louise (Canova) Chamberlain.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmanuel Walton and brothers, Norman and Chester Chamberlain.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Dionisia and John Redgrave, III of Blairsville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Carolina Boyer and Eugene Andre of Orlando, FL; brother, Joseph Chamberlain of Philadelphia, PA; granddaughter, Amy Boyer of Orlando, FL; grandson, John Redgrave IV of Blairsville, GA; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 24, 2005, at 2 p.m., from Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, Winter Park, FL.  Interment followed in Chapel Hill Cemetery. 

The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, Georgia and Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home in Winter Park, Florida were in charge.  Friends may send condolences and sign the guest register at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.

mrs. mattie irene pirkle

 

Mrs. Mattie Irene Pirkle, age 93, of Warren, Michigan, formerly of Suches, GA, passed away Monday, February 21, 2005 in Warren.  Mrs. Pirkle was born Tuesday, February 13, 1912 in Union County, GA to the late George Washington Gooch and the late Julie Ann Davis Gooch.  She was a homemaker.  Mrs. Pirkle was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Boyd Pirkle; sons: George Pirkle and James Pirkle; and 7 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Survivors include: daughter, Janice Burns of Warren, MI; 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 25, 2005 at 10 a.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Helms officiating.  Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant #2 Baptist Church Cemetery.  The following gentlemen were selected to serve as pallbearers: Bruce Burns, Andrew Burns, Douglas McDonald, Rex Pirkle, and Ron Pirkle.

mrs. dorothy ellen horner

 

Mrs. Dorothy Ellen Horner, age 87, of Blairsville, GA passed away Friday, February 18, 2005 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee.  Mrs. Horner was born Thursday, December 6, 1917 in Erie County, New York to the late Willis and Gladys Watson.  Dorothy had resided in the Blairsville and Hiawassee area for the last several years, moving here from Miami, FFL.  Mrs. Horner was a graduate of Melbourne High School in Melbourne, FL.  Preceding her in death was a son, William L. Peek, Sr.; a daughter, Georgia Lovett Koke; two brothers, William Watson and Donald James Watson, Sr.

She is survived by four grandchildren: William Ladell Peek, Jr., of Foley, AL; Susan Renee Hawthorn, of Prattville, AL; Katherine Estell Patton also of Prattville; and Valerie Leigh Harris of Selma, AL; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; two nephews: Donald J. Watson, Jr., of Durham, NC.

duren kuykendall

 

Duren “Kirk” Kuykendall, 86, of 1229 Gold Course Dr., Gastonia, died February 12, 2005 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.  He was born January 1, 1919 in Blairsville, GA, son of the late Curry G. and Jessie Poteete Kuykendall.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, at Gaston Memorial Park.

He was a World War II Army veteran, a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge, and was retired from Gray Industrial Steam Inc., in Gastonia.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Sue Kuykendall, Michael and Betty Kuykendall, all of Gastonia, daughters and son-in-law, Wanda Lee Hancock, Sandra and Chester Davis, all of Gastonia; brother and sister-in-law, Tye and Diane Kuykendall of Ball Ground, GA; sisters, Lovelle Owensby of Blairsville, GA, Grace Flowers of Dallas, Kathleen Pryor of Kings, Mountain, Wilma Froneberger of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; cat of 9 years, Phitz Willee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rushie Belle Kuykendall; brother, Claude Kuykendall.

Pallbearers were Mark Kuykendall, Jamie Bolding, Jeffery Mosteller, Jerry Hancock, Trent Davis, Brandon Davis; honorary pallbearer, David Bolding.  Rev. Doug Allen officiating.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Arrangements by Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel.
