Mr.
Ernest E. “Ernie” Honaker, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Monday,
February 22, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Honaker
was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, on Thursday, June 2, 1910, a son of the late Martin Vernon Honaker and Hannah
Anna Martin
Honaker. Mr. Honaker grew up in Honaker,
Virginia, and Sparta, North Carolina. He
moved to Blairsville in 1958, form Asheville, North Carolina. Mr. Honaker graduated from University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was
the first manager of arbor Acres in Blairsville, and ahs been involved
in a
number of civic organizations. Mr.
Honaker was a member of Williamstown United Methodist Church in
McCayesville,
Georgia.
Survivors
include: son and daughter in law, Rev. Bill and Bobbie Honaker, of
Blairsville;
daughter, Rev. Martha Anne Honaker, of Fayetteville, NC; sister, Opal
Proffie,
of Troy, VA; brother, James Howard Honaker, of Winston-Salem, NC;
sister, Jean
Holt, of Wilimington, NC; 5 grandchildren: Yvette Honaker, Mitchelle
Honaker
Clayton, Chuck Honaker, Sherry Fields, and Bretta Lynn Ogburn, 9 great
grandchildren along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, February 24, 1999, at
3 p.m. from the House of Prayer Church, with Rev. Jerry Helton, Rev.
Carter
Maddox and Rev. Charles Black officiating.
Special music was presented by the House of Prayer Church Choir. The
following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Cliff Goewey, Joe Walker, Andy Dyer, Bob Peters, Dennis
Macdiarmid, and Jim McClure. Interment
was in Union memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.

mrs. bonnie mae CHAMBERS HARKINS
Mrs.
Bonnie Mae Chambers Harkins, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia passed
away Thursday,
February 18, 1999 in Union General Hospital.
Mrs.
Harkins was born in Union County September 13, 1910, a daughter of the
late
William and Rosella Lowe Chambers. She
lived in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1965 to 1997.
Mrs. Harkins was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and
Blairsville
O.E.S. chapter 304. She was preceded in
death by her husband, James Emory Harkins in 1986 and a son, James R.
Harkins
in 1937.
Survivors
include: daughters: Sybil and Ted Tyre of Blairsville, GA, Norma and
David
Jones of Jonesboro; sons, Charles and Yvonne Harkins of Atlanta,
Georgia and
J.C. and Margie Harkins of Blairsville, Georgia, and Lee and Doug
Spence of St.
Petersburg, Florida; brothers: Julius Chambers and Vernon Chambers both
of
Blairsville, Georgia; sisters, grace Stanislawski of Flat Rock, MI,
Betty gray
of Blairsville, Georgia and Connie Akin of Maryville, TN; 13
grandchildren and
21 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, February 20, 1999 at 11
a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Daniels
and Rev.
Jerry Karnes officiating. Music was by
Melissa Mashburn. Pallbearers were Rufus
Everett, Larry Connally, Bruce Gray, Bryan Harkins, Chris Harkins and
Larry
Chambers. Interment was in Philadelphia
Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs.
Violet “Phil” Mills, age 82, of the Stonehenge Community in
Blairsville, GA,
passed away Wednesday, February 24, 1999 in Union General Hospital.
Mrs. Mills
was retired from the DuPont Co., Wilmington, DE, after 33 years service
to this
graphic artist. She moved to this area
six years ago form Marshallton, DE. Mrs.
Mills was a member of Sharp memorial Methodist Church, Yong Harris, Ga. She was also an avid golfer.
Survivors
include her sons and daughters in law, Robert D. and Ruth Mills of
Milford, DE,
and G. Ray and Elsie Mills of Newark, De, a daughter, Carolyn P. Baker
of
Hiawassee, son in law, Michael Connors of Nokomis, FL, seven
grandchildren and
13 great grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by a daughter, Barbara Connors of Nokomis, FL.
Funeral
services were held from the Chapel of Cochran
Funeral Home, Hiawassee, GA, at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 1999,
with the
Rev. Patty Ryle Clay officiating. Music
was provided by Loyce Phillips.

Mr.
Elmer D. Pickelsimer, age 71, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, February 18, 1999 in
Chatuge
Regional Nursing Home.
Mr.
Pickelsimer was born in Cherokee County, NC on June 9, 1927, and had
lied in
Union County all his life. He was a son
of the late John Andrew and Fannie warren Pickelsimer.
He was a member of Pine Top Baptist Church.
Survivors
include: stepdaughters, Sue Collins and Cordie Gibson both of
Blairsville,
Georgia, and Barbara Findley of Calhoun, Georgia; stepson, Jimmy Smith
of
Chatsworth, Georgia; sister, Niner Snedegar of Blairsville; sister and
brother
in law, Bertie and J.T. Davis of Blairsville; brother, Settle
Pickelsimer of
Blairsville; brother and sister in law, Earl and Dorothy Pickelsimer,
of
Blairsville; and brother, Marlin
Pickelsimer, also of Blairsville; 8 grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews
and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, February 20, 1999 at 2
p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Stacey Dyer and
Rev.
Jimmy Tanner officiating. Music was by
Ken and Elaine Young. Pallbearers were
Larry Dyer, Jim Garrett, Leon Collins, Frank Collins, Joe Garrett and
Rodney
Carey. Interment was in Pine Top Baptist
Church Cemetery.
