mr. sylvan roy owenby

 

Mr. Sylvan Roy Owenby, age 76, of Nottley Dam Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Feb. 24, 2003 in the Union General hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Owenby was born on June 4, 1926 in Union County, the son of the late Zack Owenby and the late Cordie Norton Owenby.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was a veteran of the US navy in the Korean War.  Mr. Owenby was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Owenby are two sons and a daughter in law, Rex and Debbie Owenby of Blairsville, Gerald Owenby of Blairsville; one sister, Totsie Dillienger of Gastonia, NC; three grandchildren, Ryan Owenby, Brett Owenby and Julie Owenby, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Horace Potts and Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ryan Owenby, Brett Owenby, Carson Owenby, Chris Davenport, Tony Davenport and James Davis.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. thelma june sundquist

 

Mrs. Thelma June Sundquist, age 73, of Blairsville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Sundquist was born on May 19, 1929 in Ponce de Leon, FL, the daughter of the late Eric H. Mason and the late Mary M. Smith Mason.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Eric H. Mason, Jr. in 2001.  Mrs. Sundquist was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Sundquist are her loving husband of fifty one years, John Willis Sundquist of Blairsville; one son and daughter in law, John C. and Jill Sundquist of West Chester, PA; two grandchildren, Amanda J. Sundquist and Matthew J. Sundquist both of West Chester, PA; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Sundquists memory.

mrs. betty ann paulson

 

Mrs. Betty Ann Paulson, age 65, of Bitter Creek Lane, Blairsville, formerly of Bradenton, FL, went home on Sunday Feb. 23, 2003 in the Murphy Medical Center following an extended illness.  Mrs. Paulson was born on Nov. 3, 1937 in Newberry, FL, the daughter of the late Ernest Everett Moore, Sr., and the late Ordette Kinsley Hart.  She was employed with the South East High School in Bradenton, FL for over twenty nine years as a bookkeeper.  Mrs. Paulson was a member of the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mrs. Paulson are her loving husband of forty nine years, Llew Paulson of Blairsville; one son and daughter in law, Lee and Barbara Paulson of Palmetta, FL; two daughters, Shannon Lammert of Blairsville, Twyla Smith of Blairsville; son in law, Jeff Smith of Blairsville, Roy Bickford who was like a son; two sisters, Delores Lower of Young Harris, Evelyn Jones of Dawsonville; brother, Ernest Moore, Jr., of Tampa, FL; half brothers, Jack Hollard of Ocala, FL, Sammy Holland of Arcadia, FL; four grandchildren, Caleb and Jeffrey Smith of Blairsville, Amanda and Jared Paulson of Palmetto, FL; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A celebration of life service was held on Wednesday Feb. 26, 2003 at 11:00 AM from the House of Prayer Church with the Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Roy Bickford officiating.  Special music was presented by the House of Prayer Church Choir, Scott Lance and Deanne Bailey.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jeffrey Smith, Caleb Smith, Jared Paulson, Jeff Smith, John Kyle and Robby Yarbrough.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 2, 2003 at 11:00 AM from the West Bradenton Baptist Church in Bradenton, FL, with the Rev. Robert A. Allen officiating.

mrs. mary ruth england parker

 

Mrs. Mary Ruth England Parker, age 73, of Smyrna, GA, passed away in Dallas, GA nursing home following a extended illness.

Mrs. Parker was born June 21, 1929 in Union County, the daughter of the late James P. England and Hassie Kelley England.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Parker, four sisters, June Prather, Peggy Redmond, Michael Daniel and Merner Kelley.

Surviving Mrs. Parker are two sons, Jimmy Parker of Kennesaw, GA and Timothy parker of Hiram, GA, and one daughter, Patti Wurst of Newnan, GA.  Seven grandchildren, and one brother, Vaughn England of Blairsville, GA and one sister, Jonnie Smith of Hiram, GA.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 18, 2003 from the Hay=Gant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Condra officiating.  Nephews served as pallbearers: Bill Kelley, Larry Prather, Douglas and Darrell England and Gary Redmond.  Interment followed in Memorial park Cemetery in Marietta, GA.

mr. hubert goldy abercrombie

 

Mr. Hubert Goldy Abercrombie, age 69, of Abercrombie Rd, Suches passed away on Saturday March 1, 2003 in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.  Mr. Abercrombie was born on Aug. 13, 1933 in union County, the son of the late Jennings Abercrombie and the late Vanzie Grizzle Abercrombie.  He was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean War.  He had retired from the US Forest Service where he served as road supervisor.  Mr. Abercrombie was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of the Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114 F&AM and was also a member of Mt. Pleasant #2 Baptist Church of Suches.

Surviving Mr. Abercrombie are one son, Shawn Abercrombie of Suches; two daughters and son in laws: Toby and Zane Chancey of Blairsville, Stacy and Anthony Olson of Blairsville; special friend, Carolyn Ray of Suches; one brother and sister in law, Johnny Bill and Helen Abercrombie of Suches; two sisters and one brother in law, Edna Grace Gregory of Blairsville, Betty and Nelson McIntire of Cleveland, GA; five grandchildren, Trent and Trevor Dyer, Tosha Griggs, Landon and Kenan Olson, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday March 2, 2003 at 2:00 PM from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Clarence Drummond and Dr. Don Pruitt officiating.  Special music was presented by Cathy Gregory.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bud Braddock, Jerry Gilreath, Charlie Gregory, J. Lindsey Gregory, Jason Dockery and Shane Ray.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Sidney Stover, Hobert Lunsford, Lawrence Pruitt, Standford Pruitt and Dale Pierce.  Interment followed in the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors.

mr. fred berry brown

 

Mr. Fred Berry Brown, age 60, of Towe Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Sunday march 2, 2003 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Brown was born on Aug. 23, 1942 in Union County, the son of the late Gordon Berry Brown and the late Bessie Owenby Brown.  He was a native of Union County.  He was a veteran of the US Army and was in the 82nd Airborne in the Korean War.  He was also a member of the Sons of the Confederacy, the North Georgia Honor Guard, a member of the Republican Party and a volunteer for several other organizations.  Mr. Brown was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Brown are his loving wife of nine years, Gladys Higgins; five sons and three daughter in laws: Fred Berry, Jr. and Joy Brown of Pendergrass, Thomas Edward Brown of Buford, David and Eva Marie Brown of Buford, Donald and Notsuet Brown of Gainesville, Shannon Keith Brown, of Gainesville; one brother, Jerry Brown of Blairsville; four sisters, Mae Houser of Athens, Grapelle Rollins of Blairsville, Dollie Burrell of Blairsville, Joyce Swalley of Naples, FL; five grandchildren, Taylor, Allison, Chelsea, Christopher and Karen Brown.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by Randy and Tammy Hughes.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Tommy Adams, Herbert Teague, J.E. Corn, Royce Brown, Randy Brown and Sylvia Butts.  Interment followed in the New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors.
