miles taylor

 

Mr. Miles Taylor, age 66 of Cardinal Ln, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2007 in the St. Josephs Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mr. Taylor was born on July 21, 1940 in Pikeville, KY, the son of the late Lilburn Taylor and the late Hanna Stevens Taylor.  He had worked for the American Spring & Steel in Ohio before moving to Blairsville about twelve years ago.  Miles was a man who loved his children and whose children dearly loved him.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mashall, Paul and Martin Taylor and by a sister, Ruth Taylor.  Mr. Taylor was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Taylor are two daughters and one-son-in law, Brenda and Gary Twiggs of Blue Ridge, Mindy Taylor of Blairsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, matt and Sonia Taylor of Blairsville, Mike and Pam Taylor of Rootstwon, OH; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Pauletta Taylor of Millstone, KY; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Viola and Dennis Short of Corygon, IN, Vina Blair of Vanworth, OH, Shirley and Jesse Rose of Dry Ridge, KY, Wanda Taylor of Molten, GA, Lucy and Ronnie Smith of Sandy Hook, KY; nine grandchildren, Logan, Chelsea, Leanna, Deven, Chris, Shane, Kyle, Nikki and Tori; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Waymon Lovell, Rev. Charles Abernathy and Rev. Earl Pickelsimer officiating.  Special music was presented by Charles Abernathy and Dorothy Pickelsimer.  The following gentlemen served as pall-bearers, Brent Long, Jeff, Donnie and Jonathan Fortenberry, Tony Long, Chris Hampton and David Hughes.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Donald Fortenberry, Bryan Long, Bobby Taylor, Steve, Raymond and Charles Long.  Interment followed in the Jones Cemetery.

mabel b. goss

 

Mrs. Mabel B. Goss, age 95 of lakeside Drive Blairsville, formerly of newcomers Town, OH, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Goss was born on December 21, 1911 in Helena, AR, the daughter of the late Harry Menefee and the late Arabelle Menefee.  She had lived in Cleveland, OH, New Jersey and Atlanta, and had lived in Blairsville since 1993.  Mrs. Goss was a loving and great mother and grandmother.  She was preceded in death by a brother, John Winfield Menefee.

Surviving Mrs. Goss are two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia and Harry Williams of Blairsville, Nancy A. Eberhardt of Westerville; OH; nine grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A private family memorial service was held.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Union County Nursing Home in Mrs. Gossís memory.

norman charles riggs

 

Mr. Norman Charles Riggs, age 80 of Blue Ridge Hwy Blairsville, passed away on Friday, march 2, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Riggs was born on July 27, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Marshall Riggs and the late Henrietta Sutcliffe Riggs.  He was the owner and operator of Auto Friends Inc. for over fifteen years.  Mr. Riggs was an Elder, Deacon and Choir member of the Roxborough and the Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Surviving Mr. Rigs are his loving wife of sixty-years, Dorothy Landis Riggs of Blairsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman Kenneth and Pamela Riggs of Toms River, NJ, Glen and Mary Riggs of Harleysville, PA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Daniel Moss of Blairsville, Melanie and Joseph DelBorrello of Gilbertsville, PA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Mountain Presbyterian Church with the rev. K. Travis Adams officiating.  Interment eill follow at a later date in the Westminister Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, PA.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice in Mr. Riggs memory.

onzell pitts pruitt

 

One of the most beloved ladies and loving ladies of all time went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Mrs. Onzell Pitts Pruitt, age 81 and resident of Blairsville, GA for more than 28 years, passed quietly into Glory after an extended illness.  Jim Pruitt, her loving husband of more than 56 years, cared for Onzell at home until very recently when she was hospitalized and then was cared for at Union County Nursing Home until her death, February 12, 2007.  her lifelong verse from Godís Word is found in Psalm 119:11: Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee.

Mrs. Pruitt was born Wednesday, May 27, 1925, in Oglethorpe County, GA, to the late Onnie Pitts and Ruth Bell Pitts.  She worked briefly for the Georgia Department of Transportation and then dedicated the rest of her life to being a wonderful wife, beloved mother, and Christian friend to many folks.  She was preceded in death by brother, Elmer Pitts; sisters, Frances Elizabeth Pitts and Jannie Lou Carlisle.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Pruitt of Blairsville, GA; son, Dr. Jim Pruitt, III and Betsy Carpino of Pagosa Springs, CO; daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Rev. Ric Hurd of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Bruce and Melanie Pruitt of Watkinsville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, John Mel and Claudia Pitts of Elberton, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Betty Ann Pitts of Stone Mountain, GA; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many other family members and friends.  We will sorely miss you and your happy smile.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 16, 2007, at 2 p.m. from the Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Helms, Rev. Ric Hurd and Rev. Joseph Hutcheson officiating.  Music was provided by Antioch Trio from Watkins-ville, GA, with soloist Sara Hutcheson, and pianist Judson Hurd.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens.  The family received friends at Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, from 6-9, Thursday, February 15.  Mrs. Pruitt lay in state at the church starting at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Gideons, International, which will place Bibles in memory of Mrs. Pruitt.  Each $5 will purchase one Bible.

ruby mae howell

 

Mrs. Ruby Mae Howell, age 80, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Union General Hospital.  Mrs. Howell was born Thursday, July 22, 1926 in Harrison Co., MS to the late Milton and Mollie Blaine Keyes.  Ruby was a lifetime resident of Biloxi, MS.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, a Sunday Scholl teacher, and member of Bykota Sunday School Class.  Ruby was a member of the Azelea Garden Club and a resident of Seashore Manor in Bixoli.  She had resided in Blairsville, GA since 2004.  She was preceded in death by husband, Lee Howell.

Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Lee and Jane Howell of Evergreen, CO, daughter & son-in-law, Nancy And Warren Gillis of Blairsville, GA, son & daughter-in-law, Robert and Melanine Howell of Denver, CO; brother, Jim Keys of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren, Trudi Crow, Andrew Gillis, Cody Howell, Zach Howell, Steve Fava, and Bijan Arasteh.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 2, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Bradford-OíKeefe Funeral Home Chapel in Biloxi, MS.  Interment was in Serenity Gardens in Biloxi.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations may be made to the Parkinsonís Association.

W. Aubrey Taffar, age 89, died Monday, February 26, 2007 following a brief illness.  Aubrey was born August 22, 1917 in Atlanta and resided for many years in Decatur.  After his retirement in 1982, Aubrey traveled extensively and moved to North Georgia.  He lived in Hiawassee, Blairsville, and Gainesville.  He was a very active lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church.  He particularly enjoyed volunteering at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, where he made many friends.

He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law and six grandchildren.

bruce raymond tuthill

 

Mr. Bruce Raymond Tuthill, age 81, of Anchorage Dr. Blairsville, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2007 in the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta following an extended illness.  Mr. Tuthill was born on January 2,k 1926 in Matt-ituck, NY, the son of the late Raymond Elisha Tuthill and the late Ann Luce Tuthill.  He retired from Grumman Air-craft Company in 1986 with over twenty years of service.  He was a veteran of the merchant Marines of WWII.  While living in new York, he was a Boy Scout Leader, a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept. and also was a Deacon of his church.  He loved the water and loved boating, and at one time he was a Boat master.  Bruce loved helping others any way that he could.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria and by a brother Austin Tuthill.  Mr. Tuthill was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Tuthill are his loving wife, Joan Tuthill of Blairsville; one son, Rick Spector of Land of Lakes, FL; mother-in-law, K. Muriel Jefferson of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Pam Jefferson of Hia-wassee; close friends; The Nine Family of Florida; two great friends and prayer warriors, Jack Richards of TX and John Nicely of Clearwater, FL; several cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Helton officiating.  Special music was presented by Ted and Joy Noele.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Doug Centin, Bob Hutchinson, Carl Buser, Bill Turnage, Brian Brewer and Bobby Warren.  Interment followed in the church cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors.  The family met with friends on Friday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the House of Prayer Church Missions, Myong Paik.

arthur dixon woody

 

Mr. Arthur Dixon Woody, age 81 of Suches, GA, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at his residence following a period of declining health.  He was born may 24, 1925 in Union County, the son of the late Walter and Nina Dixon Woody.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Johnson Woody.  A former resident of Montgomery, AL, Mr. Woody had resided in Suches for the past 25 years.  Mr. Wood received an AB Degree from mercer university in 1945 and later received a degree in Forestry in 1945 from the University of Georgia.  He was a U.S. navy veteran having served during World War II, served as a Supervisor with the U.S. Forest Service in the Alabama national Forest from 1971 to 1981.  Mr. Woody was a member of the Blue Ridge Mountain Masonic Lodge #38 of Dahlonega and was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches.

Survivors include  sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Jeannie Woody of Columbia, SC, William and Debbie Woody of Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren, Jenner Woody, Jackson Woody, Walter and Brooke Woody, Nathan and Jessica Woody, William Woody, Ava Woody, and Jenna Woody; great-grandchildren, Emma Woody, Grant Woody, Lilly Woody, and parker Woody; brother, Bill B. Woody of Suches and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where the remains lay in state at 1:30 p.m.  The Rev. Clarence Drummond officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  The family request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, c/o George Birch, 6936 State Highway 60, Suches, GA 30572.
