mr. gordon key bryan

 

Mr. Gordon Key Bryan age 99 of Blairsville, formerly of Stakville, MS, went home to be with the Lord on Monday February 27, 2006 at the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  At the time of his passing, he was living with his daughter and son in law, Lynda and John Yount.  Dr. Bryan was born on December 20, 1906 in Cleburne, TX, the son of the late Benjamin F. Bryan and the late Myrtle Young Bryan of Cleburne, TX.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bennie Hendrix and Marjorie Reddick, and also by his loving wife of seventy-two years, Lake Cummings Bryan who passed away in 2002.

Dr. Bryan was a member of the Phi Beta Kapa, the Phi Kappa Phi, the Lambda Chi Alpha, the Ps Sigma Alpha, the Blue Key, the Golden Triangle YMC Award, the Sloan Foundation Fellow, the Gen. Education Board Fellow, Whoís Who in America, the Association of Retired Professors of MSU, and he also was Elder Emeritus of the First Presbyterian church.  Dr. Bryan was a member of the First Presbyterian church in Starkville.

Surviving Dr. Bryan are one daughter and son in law, Lynda and John Yount of Blairsville, three grandchildren, Carol Adams of Ft. Worth, TX, Beth Owens of Cheyanne, WY, Ginger Hamrick of Decatur, GA, three great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 3, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church of Starkville, MS with the Rev. Olin McBride and the Rev. Steve Davis officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, P.C. McLaurin, Tip Allen, Krish Bhanzali, Keith Remy, Bill Polk and Fred Blocker.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were the Elders of the First Presbyterian church.    Interment and graveside services were held Monday at 3 p.m. from the Cleburne Memorial cemetery in Cleburne, TX.

mr. raymond harding spencer

 

Mr. Raymond Harding Spencer, age 95, of Blossom Valley, Blairsville, formerly of Orlando, FL, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Spencer was born on May 13, 1910 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Hervey Spencer and the late Nannie Holland Spencer.  He had retired from the Baltimore B&O Railroad after several years of service.  He was preceded in death by a son Bobby Spencer and his wife, Mary Ward Spencer.  Mr. Spencer was a member of the Blairsville Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving Mr. Spencer are one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond A. and Grace Spencer of Floral Park, NY, two grandchildren, Raymond H. Spender of Portland, ME, John Spencer of Cardiff, CA, one great-granddaughter, Rachael Spencer, several nieces and nephews, his caregiver, Viola Rogers of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Blairsville Church of the Nazarene with pastor Ivan Rexroth officiating.  Special music was presented by Doris Sourdiffe and Duane Harrell.  Interment followed in the Highland Memory Gardens in Orlando, FL.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Blairsville Church of the Nazarene in Mr. Spencerís memory.

mr. jay c. cantrell

 

Mr. Jay C. Cantrell, age 78, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Union General Hospital.

Mr. Cantrell was born Friday, July 1, 1927 in Fannin County, GA to the late James William Cantrell and Candy Hickey Cantrell.

Survivors include wife, Elaine Cantrell of Blairsville, GA; daughters, Peggy Sue Smith of Puebelo, CO, Judy Ann Snider of Kent, OH, Joan Lynn Madden of Kent, OH and Patsy Jean Cantrell of Blairsville, GA; sister, Sis Seabolt of Morganton, GA; grandchildren, Todd and Troy Berisford, Tammy Hoffman, Thomas, Julian and Steven Snider and January Madden; great grandchildren, Crystal Berisford, Emma, Brandon, Austin and Hailey Snider and Travis Hoffman; special children, Kimberly Ruth Yun and Lillian Grace Lovell; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
