mr. charles william king

 

Mr. Charles William King, age 69, of Kings Road, Blairsville, passed away on February 28, 2005 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. King was born on January 18, 1936 in Union county, the son of the late Clayton D. King and the late India E. Helton King.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force with over eight years of service.  He was with the Georgia Revenue Dept. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Unit for fifteen years, and with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for over ten years.  After retiring from the GBI, he was employed by the White Co. Sheriff’s Dept. as Chief Deputy for over ten years.  Mr. King also supervised the Tri-County Drug Task Force before coming back to Union County where he was currently the Chief Deputy with the Union County sheriff’s Dept.  Mr. King was a member and past master of Young Cane Masonic Lodge #597 F&AM.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dot Payne and Sandra Payne.  Mr. King was a member of The House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mr. King are his loving wife of forty-nine years, Frances Rogers King of Blairsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Ricky Seay of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Cindy King of Cleveland, GA; one brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Peggy King of Blairsville; five grandchildren, Brandon King, Lauren Greisen, Brittany, Katie and Anna Seay, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 2 p.m. fro The House of Prayer Church with the Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Bill Schakat officiating.  Special music was presented by The House of Prayer Church Choir.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, James Crawford, Chris Busbee, Danny Duncan, Cody White, Pete King and Larry Helton.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Union County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with other law enforcement agencies.  Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. hazel dyer self

 

Mrs. Hazel Dyer Self, age 65, of Richard Russell Hwy., Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, march 3,2005 in the Chatuge Regional Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Self was born on August 10, 1939 in Union County, the daughter of the late Jewell Dyer and the late Irene Deyton Dyer.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  She had retired from the Union County School system.  She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Dean Self and two brothers, Cecil and Herman Dyer.  Mrs. Self was a member of Pine Top Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Self are her loving husband of forty-five years, Dean Self of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Tony Brown of Blairsville; four brothers and one sister-in-law, R.M. Dyer, Tommy and Donna Dyer, and Lonnie Dyer all of Blairsville, Charles Dyer of Gainesville; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Winona Plott and Lillian Hughes both of Blairsville, and Geneva and Glenn Self of Gainesville; three grandchildren, Heather, Deana and Farrah Brown all of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner and Rev. Bobby Duncan officiating. Special music was presented by Mary Ann Wright and Bobby Duncan.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, David Dyer, Lamar Dyer, David Farrell, Tim Nagel.  Interment followed in the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.

david jeffrey “jeff” haynes

 

David Jeffrey “Jeff” Haynes, 40, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Lithonia, GA, passed on peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at his home.

A native of Atlanta, GA, Jeff was a graduate of Lithonia High School and the University of Georgia.  He was an accomplished motorcross rider, placing 4th in amateur national motorcross racing.  Jeff was a member of First Baptist Church of Lithonia.

Survivors include his cherished son, David Jeffrey Haynes, Jr.; his parents, David and Sandra Haynes, all of Blairsville; paternal grandmother, Irene Haynes, of Conyers, GA; brother-in-law and sister, Peter and Sandra Gaye Poisson of Cumming, GA; two nieces; Elizabeth and Catherine Poisson, also of Cumming.

Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Blairsville, with Dr. Jim Martin officiating.  Burial was in Laurel Hills Memorial Gardens in Hiawassee.

mr. t. j. anderson

 

Mr. T. J. Anderson, 77 native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, GA passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005 in Blairsville.

Mr. Anderson was born in Union County, GA, a son of the late Lee Anderson and Jessie Sosebee Anderson, on Thursday, April 14, 1927.  He was a member and deacon of Fairview Baptist Church, a member of Young Cane Masonic Lodge, and The Bass Club.  Mr. Anderson was a volunteer for Union County Fire and Rescue Squad for many years, as well as a bus driver for the public schools.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bernice Anderson, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Goldie and Sam Nichols, of Young Harris, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jim Thompson, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Rachel Anderson of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Michael and Diane Anderson, of Blairsville; sisters: Grapell Brown and Betty Lou King, both of Blairsville; brothers: Nelson Anderson and Leroy Anderson, both of Blairsville; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 6, 2005 at 3 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Special music was presented by Stuart Nichols, Angie Burrell, Tammy Hughes and Jessica Miller.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Joseph Anderson, Jacob Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Stuart Nichols, Ronnie Anderson, and Larry King.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Dan Kimbrell, Ronnie Jones, Ben Burrell, and Junior Lovell.  Burial was in Union memory Gardens Cemetery.

mrs. vanita carroll holloway

 

Mrs. Vanita Carroll Holloway, age 90 of Murphy Drive, Blairsville passed away on Sunday, march 6, 2005 in Griffin at the home of her son.  Mrs. Holloway was born on May 23, 1914 in Polk County, TN, the daughter of the late Thomas Carroll and the late Maggie Totherow Carroll.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County.  Before her retirement she was employed with Union General Hospital and Union County Nursing Home for over twenty years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Bristol Holloway and by a brother, Earl Carroll.  Mrs. Holloway was a member of Dillard Chapel Church.

Surviving Mrs. Holloway are one daughter, Nancy Johnston of Ellijay, five sons and two daughters-in-law, Austin Holloway of Marble, NC, Joe D. Holloway of Blairsville, GA, Hugh and Juanita Holloway of Griffin, Benny Joe and Sharon Holloway of Marietta, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating.  Special music was presented by the Happy Pilgrims.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Junior Carroll, Arnold Patterson, Austin Holloway Jr., Sonny Holloway, Eddie Holloway, Ralph Carroll and Harold Johnston.  Interment followed in the Dillard Chapel Cemetery.
