Robert
F. Jones, age 71, of Dempsey Street, passed away Tuesday, February 23,
1999, at
Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria, Illinois.
Mr. Jones
was born May 11, 1927, in Blairsville, GA, to Arthur and Aria Alma
Nicholson Jones, he married Jeanette C. Day
on May 27, 1950, in
Lewiston. She survives.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Robert
F. Jones was preceded in death by four brothers Juan, Lee Allen,
Waymond and
Hoyt; one sister, Mabel Jones Townley.
Mr. Jones
was a switchman at Caterpillar, Inc., retiring in 1978.
He owned and operated Bob Jones and Motors
and worked at Downs Motors.
He was a
member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God in East Peoria, where services
were held
at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 26. The
Rev. A.E. Cope officiated. Interment was
in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Remmert
Funeral Home of East Peoria, Ill., was in charge of arrangements.

Mr.
Ray M. Hemphill, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
March
6, 1999, in Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee.
Mr.
Hemphill was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, October 21, 1914, a son of the
late Lawrence C. Hemphill and Merzie Mauney Hemphill.
He was a carpenter and was a lifelong
resident of this area. Mr. Hemphill was
a member of Antioch Baptist Church, and was ordained a deacon in that
church on
November 18, 1951. He was also a member
of Dooley Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hemphill
had been preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Ann Hemphill.
Survivors
include his wife, Mary Grace Colwell Hemphill, of Blairsville; son and
daughter-in-law, Jerry and Nola Hemphill, of Blairsville; daughter,
Judy
Hemphill Rich, of Mabelton, Georgia; three grandchildren: Mike
Hemphill, Danny
Hemphill, and Cary Rich. Four great
grandchildren: Jonathan Rich, Joshua Rich, Jordan Rich and Gabrian
Hemphill.
Funeral
services were held Monday, March 8, 1999 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral home in Blairsville with Rev. Tom Smith, Rev. Billy Rabern, and
Rev.
George Cline officiating. Special music
was presented by Patsy Davenport, Ginger Carey, Debbie Owenby and
Danita
Owenby. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Mike Hemphill, Danny Hemphill, Cary Rich, Steve Drake,
Scott
Lance, Alan Colwell, Tim
Colwell, and Joey Colwell.
Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs.
Julia Kelly Head, age 84, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Thursday, March
4, 1999 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Head
was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, March 26, 1914, a
daughter of
the late Jake Burton Kelly and Mina Rogers Kelly. She
was a homemaker and lived most of her
life in Atlanta. She
as a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.
Survivors
include: daughter and son-in-law, Ruenelle and Benny Allen; son and
daughter-in-law, Robert L., Jr., and Carol Head, all the Blairsville;
brother,
Virge Kelly of Blairsville; and sister, Maude Powers of Detroit,
Michigan;
6 grandchildren, and 7 great
grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, March 6, 1999, at 2
p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Herring
and Rev.
Jerry Helton officiating. Special music
was presented by Mildred and Nelson LeCroy, and Elizabeth Plott. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Bud Akins, Jim McAfee, Jim Williams, Tony Hamby, Terry
Queen, and
Ray Rogers. Interment was in Blairsville
City Cemetery.

Mrs.
Pearl E. Cochran, age 86, of Blairsville, passed away March 2, 1999. She was a retired packing house worker and of
the Baptist Faith.
Survivors
include a daughter, Mrs. Jean Cochran, Blairsville, sister, Mrs. Ella
Murphy,
Jasper, 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great
grandchild.
Funeral
services were held from the Bethesda Baptist Church on Thursday, March
4, at 2
p.m. with the Rev. James Rich officiating.
Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
