iven benjamin “benny” collins jr.
Mr.
Iven Benjamin (better known as Benny) Collins Jr., age 70 of Ledan Rd.,
Gainesville, GA, formerly of Blairsville passed away on Thursday, March
5, 2009
in the N. East GA Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended
illness. Mr. Collins was born on Aug. 31,
1938 in
Fulton County, GA, the son of the late Iven Benjamin Collins and the
late
Minnie Blaine Deaver Collins. He was a
veteran of the US Army of the Vietnam War.
He had retired from St. Stewart in Hinesville, GA as an auditor
after
over twenty years of service. Benny
enjoyed raising Daschunds. He was a
loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester Collins. Mr. Collins was a member of Ivy Log Baptist
Church.
Surviving Mr.
Collins are his loving wife of forty-two years, Martha Adams Collins of
Gainesville,
one daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Randy Greenway of Savannah, GA,
one son
Bryan Collins of Gainesville, three grandchildren, Amber Lucas,
Victoria
Collins, and Caroline Greenway, two beloved Daschunds, Macy and Puppy,
many other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Saturday, March 6, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the
Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. Howard Collins officiating. The
following gentlemen served as
pallbearers, Gary Hill, Robby Brown, Jess Deaver, Jessie Peyton, Randy
Greenway
and David Davis. Interment followed in
the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday from
11-2
p.m. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of
flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to
the
Union County Humane Society in memory of Mr. Collins.

Ms.
Beaver attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA and did graduate work
at
Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and at Medical College of
Virginia in
Richmond, VA. She was a registered
dietitian.
Ms. Beaver
is survived by one sister, Barbara Beaver Kennedy of Clayton, GA and
two
brothers: Park O. Beaver, Jr. of Hilton Head Island, SC and Donald A.
Beaver of
Hagerstown, MD. She was preceded in
death by her sister, Patricia Beaver Grossnickle and her brother, James
O.
Beaver. She is survived by numerous
nieces and nephews including Kara Kennedy of Atlanta, GA, and Kirstin
Funk of
Thomson, GA.
A
memorial service was held at St. Clare’s Episcopal Church,
Blairsville, GA on Friday, March 6, 2009 at 11Am with a reception
following in
the parish hall. IN lieu of flowers,

Betty
Depew Brantley, age 76, of Bedford, TX, formerly of Blairsville, GA,
passed
gently away Monday, March 2, 2009 in North Richland Hill, TX, after a
prolonged
illness.
Mr. was
born in Union County, GA, to the late and the
late.
Betty was
born Saturday, December 3, 1932 in Akin, South Carolina, the daughter
of James
Everett and Pearl Key DePew. Always the
scholar, she matriculated with honors in both her high school and
college
classes. She alter received her
Bachelor’s degree in religious Studies, from Columbia International
University. She met and married the love
of her life, Charles Brantley in 1961.
They were the best of friends; they were absolutely inseparable
and
shared 42 years of a deep and enduring love until his passing in 2003. Betty lived most of her life with a rare
kidney disease – Bartter’s Syndrome. She
was one of the original patients of Dr. barter,
and
spent many tireless years at the National Institutes of Health Research
in
Bethesda, Maryland. She was proud to
have been able to contribute to the treatment of kidney disease. So many advances were made through her
contributions that her doctors deemed her a national treasure. Betty was loved by any who ever met her. She was the most devoted wife; the most
loving mother; and the most loyal of friends.
Minutes
before she passed away, she comforted the nurses
caring for her because she wanted them to feel peaceful in the
knowledge that
they had provided her with beautiful care.
That was the kind of person Betty always was.
Her nursing care team openly wept at her
passing.
She
leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Melanie, beloved
son-in-law, Charles; precious sisters: Louise Fenno and Katheryn
Wilkes;
special friends, Charlotte Holt; Roger and Wanda Rietz; and Tommie
Wolfe, along
with a host of many faithful and loving family members.
Funeral
services were held Saturday,
March 7, 2009 at 2 PM from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral
Home of
Blairsville, with Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating. Interment
was in Union Memory Gardens.

Mrs.
Odith Marie Warren Hampton Ballew, age 93, a native of Union County,
Georgia,
and a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Tuesday, March 3,
2009 at
Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Ballew
was born Tuesday, February 29, 1916 in Union County, Georgia, to the
late John
Henry Warren and the late Kathrine Sparks Warren. She
was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church,
and had been the owner and operator of a general store for many years. Mrs. Ballew was preceded in death by first
husband, Kenneth Hampton and second husband, Leonard Ballew; son,
Richard
Hampton; step-sons, Walter Hampton and Carl J. Hampton.
Surviving
family members include: son and daughter-in-law, Cecil & Pearl
Warren of
Andrews, NC; step-daughter, Bobbie Kinney of Hoschton, GA;
step-daughter and
husband, Audrey & Charles Walker of Loganville, GA; step-daughter

Lamar (Luke) Wilson, age 66, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday,
March 1,
2009, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville, following an extended
fight with
cancer.
Lamar was
born Monday, February 15, 1943 in Hall County, GA, to the late Clyde
Wilson and
Hersie Shook Wilson. Lamar was a member
of Providence United Methodist Church.
He worked at Ford Motor Company in Hapeville, GA, from 1965 to
2001. He started out on the assembly
line, but quickly got involved in the Union as a Representative, and
was
elected President of U.A.W. Local 882, then worked as Quality control
Representative. He was an avid hunter
and fisherman and loved to garden. Lamar
was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Wilson; and a brother, Clyde
Wilson,
Jr.
Surviving
family members include his wife of 36 years, Bobbie Keith Wilson of
Blairsville; his mother, Hersie Shook Wilson of Blairsville; daughter,
Angela
Gail Wilson of Blairsville; and grandchildren, Kayla and Brandon Lloyd;
several
nieces and nephews also survive, along with a host of friends.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the
Providence
United Methodist Church with Dr. Charles A. Gillespie officiating. Special music was presented by Rev. Chris

Janet (Jan) Mary Neil age 72 of Lakemont Drive, Blairsville passed away

Monday, March 2, 2009 in Tampa, FL in the University Hospital following
a brief
illness. Mrs. Neil was born on Dec. 27,
1935 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of the late Alfred Levesque and the

Lucia Clevers Levesque. Jan was the
matriarch and catalyst that held the family together.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister,
grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs.
Neil was of the Catholic faith.

Mrs. Neil are her loving husband and best friend of fifty-three years,
