mr. clyde sullivan

 

Mr. Clyde C. Sullivan, age 87 of Clermont, GA, formerly of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, March 3, 2003, in Lanier park Hospital in Gainesville.

Mr. Sullivan was born in Union County, Georgia, on Friday, November 26, 1915, a son of the late Richard barney Sullivan and Miranda Hood Sullivan.  He was a U.S. Army veteran, and served during World War II.  Mr. Sullivan was a poultry farmer and a deacon, and was of the Baptist faith.  He moved from Blairsville to Clermont in 1981.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Edith Ballew Sullivan, of their home; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Gail Sullivan of Cummings, GA; daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Stan Lloyd of Clermont, GA; three sisters, Grace Rogers of Cornelia, GA, Dorothy Spiva of Blairsville, GA and Maxine Stephens of Aiken, SC; two brothers, Hoke Sullivan of N. Augusta, GA and Grady Sullivan of Acworth, GA; five grandchildre3n, two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 2 p.m. from Union Baptist Church in Blairsville with Rev. Benny Nix officiating.  Special music was presented by Marlena Nix and Jimmy Orr.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ralph Dyer, Donnie Rogers, Gene Spiva, Charles Spiva, Jimmy Spivia, and Earl Sullivan.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

mr. bill fix

 

Mr. Bill Fix, age 67, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2003, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Fix was born in Whitby, West Virginia, on Thursday, on Thursday, August 8, 1935, a son of the late William Fix and Cora Mills Fix.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and worked as a real estate broker.  Mr. Fix left West Virginia and moved to Marietta, Georgia, and later in 1960, moved to Blairsville.  He was a member of new Union Baptist Church, and Young Cane Masonic Lodge, F&AM.

Surviving are his wife, Linda LeCroy Fix, of the home; son, Patrick William Fix, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Millie and Michael Owenby, of Blairsville; brother, Dennis Fix, of Salem, Virginia; grandson, Daniel Payne; granddaughter, Morgan Owenby; grandson, Mitchell Owenby; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2003, at 2:00 PM, from New Union Baptist Church in Blairsville with Rev. Harrison Bradley and Dr. David Gowder officiating.  Special music will be by New Union Baptist Church Choir.  The following gentlemen been selected to serve as pallbearers: Kenneth Jenkins, Milton Akins, Larry Akins, Don LeCroy, Nelson LeCroy, Mark Bramblett, Scott Payne, and Tim Grizzle.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.

mrs. flora juanita sullivan

 

Mrs. Flora Juanita Sullivan, age 78, of Flint, Michigan, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2003 at her residence.

Mrs. Sullivan was born on April 11, 1924 in Blairsville, to parents, Joseph and pearl Dyer.  In 1943, she married her beloved husband Uary J. Sullivan, who preceded her in death in 1998.  In 1953, Flora relocated to the Flint, Michigan area where she was proudly employed for over 25 years with General Motors.  Along with being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, the family will especially miss her devotion and talent for singing and playing the guitar.  She loved her country music and would often tem up with brother Joe, her playin’ buddy!  The “duet” are now joined to play their music again!  Mrs. Sullivan was also preceded in death by two sons: Bobby and Tommy.

Flora leaves to cherish her memory these children: Jerry Sullivan of Blairsville, William Sullivan of Louisville, KY; Barbara and Jim Gillean of Flushing, MI; Tammy Sullivan and her fiancé, Leo Panas of Mt. Morris, MI; two sisters: Irene Robinson and Maver Swanson, both of Young Harris, GA; three brothers: Vaughn Dyer, Archie Collins, and Jimmy Collins, all of Blairsville; she leaves three grandchildren, Amanda, Army and Jaimee, and many nieces and nephews.  She leaves many wonderful friends, especially Virginia Papineau of Flushing, MI; Flora was also preceded in death by brothers: Eugene Collins, Joe Dyer, Nathan Dyer, baby, J.C. Dyer and sister Ethelene Espey.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at 2 p.m. from Choestoe Baptist Church, with Rev. Stacy Dyer and Rev. Horace Potts officiating.   Interment will be in Choestoe Cemetery.

mr. jimmy watkins

 

Mr. Jimmy Watkins, age 85, of 6196 State Why. 60, Suches, GA, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA following an extended illness.

Mr. Watkins was a native of Jackson County, GA, who lived in Union County most of his life.  He was a retired farmer and store owner.  He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #2 in Union County where he was a Deacon for nearly 60 years.  He was the son of the late Noah and Lizzie Carder Watkins and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Satterfield, and two brothers, Loy Watkins and Griffie Watkins.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Minnie Bell Watkins, Suches, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Jimmie Ruth Pruitt, Dahlonega, GA, Janice and Pratt Shah, Marietta, GA; grandchildren,  Paige Pruitt Aleena Shah, and Alexa Shah; brother and sister-in-law: Willie and Velma Watkins, Suches, GA; sister-in-laws, Ella Watkins, Suches, GA and Ava Watkins, Suches, GA.  A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #2 in Union County with the Rev. Joe Hulsey, rev. Everett Thompson and Rev. William Phillips officiating.
