mr. lee stuman

 

Mr. Lee Stuman, age 69, of Branan Lodge, Blairsville, formerly of Young Harris, GA passed away Monday, March 4, 2002 at his home.

Mr. Stuman was born April 28, 1932, in Towns County, GA a son of the late Manson W. and Cordelia (Shook) Stuman.  He was a member of Many Forks Baptist church.  MR. Stuman was preceded in death by three sisters.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Louella Stuman of Young Harris, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, at 2 pm at Many Forks Baptist Church with Rev. R.L. Martin officiating.  Music was provided by Diane Davis and Jessie Hyatt.  Pallbearers were Tony Shook, Cody Gibson, John Gibson, Melvin Gibson, Charles Gibson, Kenneth Davis and Bobby Stuman.  Interment was in the church cemetery.

jay landon roberson

 

Jay Landon Robertson, age 33, of Gum Log Circle, Blairsville, GA, formerly of Murphy, NC, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, in Union County, GA.

He was a native of Cherokee County, NC and had worked as an Automobile Mechanic.  He was a member of the Moccasin Creek Baptist Church.  Jay was the son of the late Doris Hedrick Robertson who died June 24, 2001.

He is survived by his father, Aleck Robertson of Murphy, NC; one brother, Michael Robertson of Blairsville, GA; two sisters and their husbands: Wanda and Gerald Chastain of Jackson, SC and Kathy and Chico Cameron of Murphy, NC; four nieces; two nephews and one great-nephew.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002, at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC.  The Rev. Everett Morrow officiated.  Burial will be at a later date in the Bellview Community Cemetery in Murphy, NC.  Pallbearers were; Johnny Anderson, Edward Fleming, John Gaddis, Eddie Kernea, Jay Killian and Ray Roberts.

mr. grady dillard

 

Mr. Belton Earl Grady Dillard, age 55, Suches, GA, passed away Thursday, march 7, 2002, at the Union General Hospital.

Mr. Dillard was born in Penzance Cornwell, England on September 1, 1946 to the late Belton Earl Dillard, Jr.  Mr. Dillard was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Vietnam and was a carpenter.

Survivors include: children: Karen Dillard, Geoffrey Dillard, Benjamin Dillard; his mother: Muriel Dulcie Dillard of Griffin; sister and brother-in-law; Gay and Larry Bodine of Griffin; nephew: SGT Chris Bodine of Korea; nieces: Jennifer Jenkins and Amanda Tingle, both of Griffin.

Funeral services for Mr. Grady Dillard were Sunday, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.  Rev. Gene Walton officiated.  Interment followed in the County Line United Methodist Church.

mrs. jessie burrell

 

Mrs. Jessie Burrell, age 82, of Blairsville passed away Saturday, March 2, 2002 in Mountain View Community Living Center in Clayton, GA.

Mrs. Burrell was a native of Raleigh, NC and was a retired School Teacher from Del Ray Beach, FL.  She had been living in this area since 1986, and was of the Presbyterian Faith.

She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Monroe of Coral Springs, FL; sister, Dorothy Bales of Maitland, FL; two grandchildren, Jennifer Monroe of Coral Springs, FL and Jolie Liston of Tyrone, GA; many other relatives and friends also survive.

No local services are planned at this time.

mrs. diane crawford martineau privette

 

Mrs. Diane Crawford Martineau Privette, age 66, of Jones Street, Blairsville, passed away on Friday, march 8, 2002 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Privette was born on August 13, 1935 in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of the late Roy Martineau and the late Mary Sidman Martineau.  She had been a teacher in Warner Robins for several years and had been a self employed business owner.  She also was a care giver to her loving husband for the last fifteen years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Privette in 2001.  She was a member of the Blairsville Church of God.

Surviving Mrs. Privette are one son, Coy Privette of Macon; three daughters and son-in-laws; Rebecca and Ira Kurtz of Hayward, CA, Pamela and Pat McNeils of Breman, and Carrie Priddy and Laurence Toews of Palm Bay, FL; four sisters, Joan Weston, Louise Grecen, Carol Baldwin, Rebecca D’Abora, all of NY; one brother, Danny Martineau of NY; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 2 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Coy Privette, Rev. Michael Morrison and Brother Ed Nathan officiating.  Special music was presented by Michelle Collins.  Interment followed on Friday in the Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.

mr. james melvin poe

 

Mr. James Melvin Poe, age 75, of Hidden Lake Road, Blairsville passed away on Friday, March 8, 2002 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Poe was born on February 12, 1927 in Hamilton County, TN, the son of the late Rufus Marion Poe and the late Jennie Edna Sherrell Poe.  Mr. Poe was a US Airforce Veteran of WWII and was retired from Southern Bell.  He was a member of the Coosa Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Poe are his loving wife of fifty three years, Virginia Booker Poe of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Melvin Alan (Sonny) and Janice Poe of Bonita Springs, FL; two daughters, Debbie Poe Dillon of Franklin, TN, and Sherell Ann Poe of Dunwoody, GA; two grandchildren, Chris Dillon, James Alan and Linda Poe; one grandchild, James Harrison Alexander Poe, and other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 11, 2002 at 2 pm from the Coosa Methodist Church with Minister Terry Stewart officiating.  Special music was presented by Michelle Rowe and Billy Jackson.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers Hoyt Cunningham, Cohen Davis, Tommy Dolar, Harold Gibson, Harold Plott and Earl Bonnett.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Lamar Paris, Gene Miller, Andy Williams, Jimmy Tallent, Tony Hamby, Danny Kendrick, Earl Odom, Clinton Patterson, Harry Howard, Bruce Patterson, Larry Garrett and Ed McCaskal.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

mrs. hattie florence sexton henson

 

Mrs. Hattie Florence Sexton Henson, age 83, of Woodland Dr., Murphy, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 20902, in the Clay Co. Care Center, following an extended illness.  Mrs. Henson was born on January 28, 1919, in Union County, the daughter of the late Charlie Alton Sexton and the late Corda Melissa Duckworth Sexton.  She was a lifelong resident of Union and Cherokee Counties.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Henson in 1975.  She was a member of the Moccosin Creek Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Henson are three sons and daughters-in-law: James and Pam Henson of Murphy, Kenneth and Wendy Henson of Murphy, Danny and Kathy Henson of Blairsville; four daughters and two sons-in-law: Carol and Jimmy Givens of Balsam, NC, Kathryne Stewart of Murphy, Linda and Hank Williams of Forest Park, GA, and Jane Henson of Tomotla, NC; two sisters: Lucille Marcus and Lola Hass, both of Murphy; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 4, 2002, at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Lunsford officiating.  Special music was presented by Billy Jackson.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mark Knowles, Stephen Patton, Wallace Bertchin, Don Sheehan, Kenneth Henson, Jr., and Ben Martin.  Interment followed in the Bell View Community Cemetery.
