PHYLLIS B. FERGREUS

        Mrs. Phyllis B. Fegreus, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 at her home, following an extended illness.
        Mrs. Fegreus was born in Gloversville, NY, on Tuesday, January 20, 1925, a daughter of the late Richard Oare and the late Bessie Semple Oare. She and her husband had lived in Blairsville for the past 31 years, moving here from Miami, FL. Phyllis was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church, and enjoyed doing volunteer work at her church. A gardener at heart, she was a member of Blairsville Garden Club, and was a past President and State Laurel District Director of the Garden Club of Georgia.  Her accomplishments for the Blairsville Garden Club were many, and were of a great benefit to our community.
        Phyllis was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her - especially her family: husband, Wesley W. Fegreus, of Blairsville; niece, Sandra Kirkpatrick, of Bracey, VA; and niece and great niece, Sherry Fegreus and Kim Fegreus, both of Grantville, GA; many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
        Memorial services for Mrs. Fegreus were held on Monday, March 4, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the Choestoe Baptist Church Chapel, with Rev. Ken Zollinger officiating.  Burial was in Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.
        The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Choestoe Baptist Church Building Fund, 41 Choestoe Church Road, Blairsville, GA 30512.

ANNA ELIZABETH (LIBBA) MAZINGO

        Mrs. Anna Elizabeth (Libba) Mazingo, age 90, of Laurel Ridge Rd., Blairsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013, in the Union County Nursing (sic) following an extended illness. Mrs. Mazingo was born on June 13, 1922, in Buckatunna, MS., the daughter of the late Henry Grady McCaskey and the late Annie Grace Hearn. Anna loved to garden, sew and write poetry. She built a den on to her home which included a fireplace. She loved cooking of all kinds and loved the outdoors, especially Mountain Laurel. She was a very loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Earl Hamler, in 1972 and her second husband, Carlton Mazingo, in 1990. Mrs. Mazingo was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.
        Surviving Mrs. Mazingo are three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter (Nicky) and Margaret Hamler of Winter Springs, FL, Paul and Gloria Hamler of Blairsville, Johnny and Pam Hamler of Blairsville, one sister and brother-in-law, Betsy and Jimmy Pugh of Huntsville, AL, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wallace and Frieda McCaskey of Fairview, AL, Duncan and Pat McCaskey of Pascagoula, AL, six grandchildren, Rachel, Nathan, Jeffery, Andrew, Jesse and Sarah, four great-grandchildren, Chris, Sarah, Gavin and Bryson, many other relatives and friends also survive.
        A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Foundation in memory of Mrs. Mazingo.

DONALD CAMPBELL BRESLIN

        Mr. Donald Campbell Breslin, age 79, of Nottely Shores West, Blairsville passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. He was born November 22, 1933 in Redbank, NJ to the late Arthur and Carolyn Macneir Breslin. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Breslin moved to this area 22 years ago from Falls Church, VA. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, past President of St. Vincent de Paul, Vice President of IBM Manassas Employee Federal Credit Union and past President of Enchanted Valley Squares. He was an avid bowler and stained glass maker and loved sailing. Mr. Breslin was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
        Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marge Breslin of Blairsville, children, Jim and Lisa Breslin of Westminister, MD, Maureen and Jamie Butler of Spotsylvania, VA, Cathy and Jim DeFelice of Beaver Falls, PA, Donna and Marc Ryan of Land O’ Lakes, FL, Dan and Kristin Breslin of Powhatan, VA and Michael and Danielle Breslin of Holly Springs, NC, sister, Patricia Miller of Pompano Beach, FL, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
        A Mass was held Friday, March 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Richard Wise and Father Liam Nguyen officiating. Music by Ron Gaucher. Interment in St. Clare’s Haven Memorial Gardens. The family received friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Larry officiating. In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Francsis (sic) of Assisi Catholic Church.

STEPHEN MICHAEL MESKO

        Mr. Stephen Michael Mesko, age 61, of Summit Way, Blairsville passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at his home following a brief illness. He was born January 6, 1952 in Perth Amboy, NJ. He moved here in 2001. Stephen was an avid fly fisherman and a member of Trout Unlimited. He was a professional drummer in the 70’s and a funeral director over 14 years. Stephen was a strong Christian. He loved to cook, especially for friends and enjoyed eating his own cooking. Stephen loved Bible Study and attended Shadowlands Tabernacle in Blairsville. He was preceded in death by his father Michael Mesko.
        Survivors include his wife, Nancy Mesko of Blairsville, mother, Pauline Mesko of Edison, NJ, two brothers and one sister-in-law, George Mesko of Edison, NJ and John and Brenda Mesko of Avon By The Sea, NJ,  three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Gus Tsoukalas, Stephanie and Steve Klisch, Margaret and Karl Widrich all of NJ,  one niece, Bethany,  three nephews, Steven, Nicholas and Xavier, many other relatives and friends also survive.
        Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Meadow View Cemetery with Pastor Scott McKecknie officiating. Pallbearers were  Eric Johns, Gerald Patterson, David Davis, Jerry Reece, Charlie Sisson, Michael Baxter, Greg Belt, Russ Polling, Barry Vanbeers and Jeff Kelley. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Humane Society Mountain Shelter in memory of Mr. Mesko.

JACK BROWN

        Mr. Jack Brown, age 68, of Crabapple Road, Blairsville passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Clay County Care Center following an extended illness. He was born November 7, 1944 in Blairsville, GA to the late Johnny and Helen Collins Brown. Jack loved to work and watch sports. He worked at Georgia Boot over 20 years and Arbor Acres over 20 years. Jack was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Faith Tabernacle Church.
        Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Norma Brown of Blairsville, daughter Rena Brown of Blairsville, step-son, Jason and Tiffany Martin of Blairsville, sisters, Gwen Odom and Rachel and Charles Brackett both of Blairsville, brothers, Dale and Cathy Brown of Gainesville and Chris and Ida Brown of Dahlonega.
        Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 3013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Dyer officiating. Music was by Lewis and Olene Dyer and Ladies of Faith Tabernacle. Pallbearers were Roy Guffey, Samuel Guffey, David Jones, Logan Beard, Curtis Brown and Loy Cook. Interment followed in Old Liberty Baptist Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers make contributions to help defray expenses.

ROBERT JOHN DANIEL

        Mr. Robert John Daniel, age 60, of Bears Way, Blairsville passed at his home Tuesday, March 5, 2013 following an extended illness. He was born March 17, 1952 in New London, OH. John was an outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. His biggest hobby was making arrowheads. He was a loving son, father, brother and grandfather. John was preceded in death by his father Clyde John Daniel. He was of the Baptist faith.
        Survivors include his mother, Ruby Daniel of Blairsville, children, Laurie and Randy Harris of Douglasville and Charley and Sommer Daniel of Douglasville, sisters, Carol Carder of Dallas, GA, Susan and Charles Porter of Waco, GA, brother, Jeff and Cathie Daniel of Blairsville, five grandchildren, Megan Daniel, Ashlyn Daniel, Emily Daniel, Tristen Harris and Laci Harris.
        Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Trent Rich, Rev. Jonathan Hood and Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Pallbearers were Raymond Mason, Michael Fowler, Buck Dills, Gary Loftis, Charley Daniel, Matt Clark, Noah Daniel, Jeff Daniel, Charlie Porter and Randy Harris. PETER MICHAEL SCOCCA

       Peter Michael Scocca, age 86 of Lilburn and Blairsville, GA passed away March 7, 2013.  He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Clara Lentz Wilt Scocca; daughter Nanci Lyn Scocca Speagle of Snellville and Newry, SC; grandson, Scott Michael Speagle and wife Gina of Montgomery, AL; great grandchildren, Sydney Charlotte, Grant Michael and Sawyer Maise; 6 step children and their spouses, 18 step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.  
       Peter was born in Bayonne, NJ and was originally named Pellegrino, but was called "Buddy" by his family.  He was proud of his Sicilian heritage.  He attended St. Peter's Prep and in 1950 received a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Rutgers University.  He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a hospital corpsman, and served on the Admiral's Sharpshooter Team.  Among his many accomplishments was the development of a patented air pollution reduction chemical process  Peter was loved, admired and respected throughout his life.
       A funeral service honoring the life of Peter Michael Scocca was held Sunday, March 10 at 4 p.m. at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel.  Interment was held at GA National Cemetery.  The family received friends Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Salvation Army, in memory of Peter Michael Scocca.
