marvin jackson weaver

 

Marvin Jackson Weaver, formerly of Ellijay, passed away at Union County Nursing Home on March 6, 2007, following an extended period of declining health, suffering from Alzheimerís.  Marvin was born in Fannin County, GA on June 26, 1923 the fourth child of James Hobart and Izoma Reece Weaver.  Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice Free Weaver; a son, David Randy Weaver, M.D.; brothers: Ruel Weaver, Melvan Weaver and Willard Weaver.

Survivors include children and spouses: Arthur and Charlotte Weaver of Ellijay; Hoyt and Barbara Weaver of Crandall, GA; Jack Weaver of Ellijay, GA; Gail Gilbert of Blairsville, GA; and daughter-in-law, Betsy Weaver of Columbus, GA.  Four grandchildren and spouses: Katrina and Tim Rogers of Ballground, GA; Sherri and Greg Woodring of Ellijay, GA; Kristin Weaver of Ellijay, and Holly Weaver of Columbus, GA.  Siblings and spouses: Ruby Wilson of Dahlonega, GA; Edna Hill of Ellijay, GA; Paul and Frances Weaver of Spring City, TN; Ellen Reece of Ellijay, GA; Leon and Mary Weaver of Ellijay, GA; Judson and Marilyn Weaver of OH and half-sister, Kay Weaver of Dahlonega.  Many nieces, nephews and many, many friends also survive.

Marvin lived most of his life in Fannin and Gilmer Counties.  He was a farmer; raising beef cattle, chickens, then owning a dairy farm.  He was called to preach and did so in the Primitive Baptist faith.  He lived his last years at Brasstown Manor in Hiawassee and was very happy there.

Funeral services were held from Bernhardt Funeral Home Chapel on March 8 at 2 p.m. with Elder Randall Cagle and Elder Edward Cagle officiating.  Singing was by the congregation.  Pallbearers were: Delmas Chastain, Mack Aaron, Chris Elliott, Eddie Gilbert, Jarrell Weaver and Don Weaver.  Burial was at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to Alzheimerís Foundation or Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

mark alan rogers

 

Mr. Mark Alan Rogers, age 55 of Souther Forest Rd. Blairsville formerly of Venice, FL, passed away on Wednesday March 7, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mr. Rogers was born on August 10, 1951 in Centralia, IL< the son of the late Merle Rogers and the late Jane Reed Rogers.  He was a Physician of Chiropractic and had retired in 1996.  he was a member of the American Chiropractic Association.  Mark enjoyed motorcycling and RV traveling.  Mr. Rogers was a member of the First Christian Church in Centralia, IL.

Surviving Mr. Rogers are his loving wife, Judy McVey Rogers of Blairsville; one son, Eric Rogers of Orlando, FL: three step-children, Marcie and Joe Guarniere of Venice FL, Ashley Fussell and Andrew Fussell both of Venice, FL; one brother and sister-in-law, Phil and Marian Rogers of Lees Summit, MO; one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Ric Allen of Prior Lake, M;many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phil Rogers officiating.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Assc. In Mr. Rogers memory.  The family met with friends at the funeral home following the services.

sarah avery infante

 

Sarah Avery Infante, age 17 of Blairsville, GA, lost her life on Tuesday afternoon, march 6, 2007 as a result of an automobile accident.  Sarah was a member of Concord United Methodist Church.  She had attended Farragut High School and was currently a student at Union County High School in Blairsville, GA.  She was very involved in the Student Government Association and earned the 2006 State of Tennessee Above and Beyond Award.  Sarah was also involved in Girl Scouts and earned a Silver Award.  She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Ignacio and Eulalia Infante; maternal grandmother, Frances Harris.

Sarah is survived by her parents, Michael and Barbara Infante; brother, Mikey Infante; maternal grandfather, Darwin B. Harris of Oran, MO; many aunts, uncles and cousins.  The family will received friends from 12 Noon to 1:455 p.m. Saturday followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. in the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel with Rev. Larry Trotter officiating.

mary elizabeth skinnerr nickel

 

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Skinner Nickel, age 93 of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Snellville and Atlanta, GA, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Union County Nursing Home.  She was the daughter of Egan Greer and Lizzie Marvin Skinner.  An agent for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co., in 1953 she was Woman of the Year, a first for the company.  After retirement, she devoted years to delivering Meals On Wheels and also loved china painting.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Egan Skinner; and husbands John F. Evans and jack B. Nickel.

She is survived by a sister, Josephine Atkinson of Blairsville; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.

Visitation was Wednesday, march 7, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lilburn, GA with funeral services at 3 p.m.  Interment was Friday, March 9, 2007 at Stokes Cemetery in Hendersonville, GA at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Meals On Wheels or your local hospice.

richard e. staelens

 

Mr. Richard E. Staelens, age 75 of Blairsville formerly of Conway, MA, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Staelens was born on November 17, 1931 in Conway, MA, the son of the late Ernest Staelens and the late Josephine Murray Staelens.  Richard was a resident of Conway, MA for seventy-two years and a local mason contractor.

He is survived by his wife Karen of Blairsville; two daughters, Diana Thornton of Deerfield, MA and Heidi Riordan of Conway, MA; two sons, Davis Staelens of Gill, MA and Aaron Staelens of Richmond, NH; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lou Fortier and her husband Gerald, So. Deerfield, MA, and Barbara Rzasa of Chicopee, MA; several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on officiating. 

Richard was educated in Conway and Deerfield Schools.  He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was Commander of VFW Post 8503 in Shelburne Falls in the 1970ís.  He was a lifelong member of the Conway Sportsmanís Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Conway, MA.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice in Mr. Staelens memory.
