Mrs.
Ruth A. Walker, of Blue Ridge, passed away February 25, 2012, at Fannin Regional Hospital. Mrs. Walker was born
in Union
County, GA to the late Herman and Laura Jones Addington.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Blue Ridge where she was a
church
training leader and a choir member. She was also a member of the Fannin Regional Hospital Auxiliary, which she
established
in 1977 before the hospital was built. Ruth gave her life to the Lord
at a
young age. She was passionate about loving the Lord and witnessing so
that
others might have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She was
preceded
in death by husband June Walker, sisters, Snow Kelly and Eula Mae
Colwell,
brothers, Clifford Addington, Ish
Addington, J.E. Addington,
and James Addington.
She
is
lovingly survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Jennifer
Walker,
daughter and son-in-law, Joy Walker Bornheimer
and
David Bornheimer, sisters, Eloise Gray and
Reginia Nichols, grandson, Paul Walker,
granddaughter,
Grace Walker.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, February 27, 2012 from the Blue Ridge
First
Baptist Church with the Rev. Charlie Howell and Rev. David Whitener
officiating. Music provided by: Ione O'Neal and PACE Violin Ensemble.
Interment
followed in Chastain Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Tony Hamby, Jim
Williams,
Ralph Walker, Rene Bidez, Jim Taylor,
Anthony
Holloway and Larry Nichols. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Thomas,
Sr., Bobby
Milam, Bill Dunn, Kenneth Wood, Don Hall, and members of Fannin
Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
In

Beverly
J. Sanchez, age 74, of Blairsville, passed away, Monday, March 5, 2012
at her
home. Mrs. Sanchez was born on October 6, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan.
She moved
to Fort Lauderdale, Florida at age 9 where she lived until she moved to
Blairsville in 1982. Her church membership remained at Coral Ridge
Presbyterian
Church in Fort Lauderdale, but she attended First Baptist Church in
Blairsville.
She
enjoyed time spent with her family and friends and will be remembered
for being
one of the first antique shop owners, along with her husband Bob
Sanchez, in
downtown Blue Ridge, GA. Blue Ridge Antiques is now owned and operated
by her
son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Liz Sanchez.
Mrs.
Sanchez will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially
missed by
her husband, Robert Sanchez of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law,
Robert and
Liz Sanchez of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Chris
Sinclair
of Duluth, GA; and four amazing granddaughters, Elizabeth Ashley
Sinclair,
Christine Elizabeth Sanchez, Sarah Katherine Sinclair, and Katherine
Grace
Sanchez.
A
memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 18th at 2 p.m. in the
Rock
Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville. A reception will
follow
immediately after the service.

Mrs.
Betty Jo Meek, age 85, of Stable Gate Dr., Blairsville formerly of
Summerville,
GA, passed away, Friday, March 9, 2012 at her home following a brief
illness.
Mrs. Meek was born in Chattanooga, TN on June 29, 1926 to the late
Walter
Newton Farmer and the late Anna Orva Brown
Farmer.
She was a nurse for several years at Riegel
Textile
Mills and Chattooga County Hospital. Leaving Summerville in 2005 she
lived with
her son and daughter-in-law in Loudonville, OH and her daughter and
son-in-law
in Blairsville. Mrs. Meek was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas
Farmer,
sisters, Vida Black and Barbara Sharp and her husband, James Edward
Meek in
2001. She was a member of Pennville First
Baptist
Church in Summerville, GA.
Survivors
include son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Carol Meek of Loudonville,
OH,
daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Rev. Jimmy Tanner of Blairsville,
GA,
brother and sister-in-law, John and Carolyn Farmer of Eustis, FL,
grandchildren, Christy McDade, Casey Meek,
Leslee Duncan and Micah Tanner, great
grandchildren, Braden
Tanner, Gracie McDade, Dally Meek and
Laney Meek.
Funeral services was (sic) held at 5 p.m.,
Saturday, March
10, 2012 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Tanner
officiating. Music was by the Pine Top Quartet. The family received
friends at
the funeral home on Saturday from 4 until 5 p.m. Another service was
held at 3
p.m., Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Pennville
First
Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. Music was by Joy
Greer,
Brandon Gurley and Robert Williams. Pallbearers were grandsons and
nephews.
Interment was in Greenhill Memorial Gardens in Summerville. The family
received
friends in Summerville at Pennville First
Baptist
Church on Sunday from 2 until 3 p.m.

Mrs.
Evelyn “Ebbie” Layne, age 89, of Deuces
Wild Road,
Blairsville, passed away at her daughter's home on Sunday, March 4,
2012
following an extended illness. Mrs. Layne moved here six months ago
from
Madison, AL. She was born February 25, 2012 in Bay City, TX to the late
Earl
and Johnnie Benge Johnston. Mrs. Layne
loved
gardening, sewing, cooking, Classical and Gospel music. She had a great
sense
of humor. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Johnson (sic),
sisters,
Kathryn Kayes and Mary Ann Melton, her
first husband,
Arthur Roy Cook in 1966 and her second husband, Landon D. Layne in
2001. Mrs.
Layne was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors
include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathy and Neil MacInnes
of Blairsville, Sue and Sumner Daniel of Madison, Al and Laura Grantham
of
Estes Park, CO, sister, Frances Miller of Edna, TX, brother and
sister-in-law,
Gene and Sammie Johnston of Bowling, TX, grandchildren, Mark Daniel,
Blake
Daniel, Emily Jobson, Matt Grantham, Jeff Grantham and Ian MacInnes,
ten great grandchildren.
Graveside
services were held Friday, March 9, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn
Memorial Park in VanVleck, TX with Matt
Grantham
officiating. The family received friends at Taylor Brothers Funeral
Home in Bay
city, TX from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers make memorials
to Union
County Humane Society Mountain Shelter, P.O. Box 1252, Blairsville, GA
30514.

Mrs. Kathy Diane Cofer
Folds of
Blairsville, GA, who was "promoted" on Monday evening, March 5, 2012,
after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Kathy was born
February 19,
1961, on the U.S. military base in Nuremberg, Germany, to parents
Leonard Cofer and Ruth Gamble Cofer. Two
months later, Kathy accompanied her mother to Tennessee. Having lived
in both
Harriman and Rockwood, TN, until the age of 7, she eventually settled
with her
parents and younger sister Sandy, in Jasper, TN.
Kathy
was a 1979 graduate from Marion County High School and received her
Bachelor of
Fine Arts degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in
1983, where
she concentrated on photography. After working as a professional
photographer
for several years, Kathy went to work for Wolf Camera & Video,
where she
became a top salesperson.
Kathy
met husband David W. Folds in 1988, and after a 3 1/2 year courtship,
married
in 1991. They moved from Chattanooga to Tallahassee, FL, and then to
Nashville,
TN. In Nashville, Kathy continued her work with Wolf Camera, being
promoted to
the position of Manager. Kathy served as Manager of several Wolf Camera
locations, being move to elevate sales in each store. While in
Nashville, Kathy
and David became the proud parents of their son, Nathanael, in 1998.
In
1999, the Folds family moved to Dawsonville and eventually settled in
Blairsville, where Kathy served as ACH Specialist for United Community
Bank.
David is also employed of United Community Bank, and Nathanael attends
Union
County Middle School.
Surviving
Kathy are her husband of 20 years, David W. Folds, and son, Nathanael
Folds of
Blairsville, GA. Also surviving are her parents, Leonard Cofer
and Ruth Gamble Cofer of Jasper, TN;
sister Sandy
Ireland, brother-in-law, Tommy Ireland, niece Amelia Ireland and nephew
Daniel
Ireland of Jasper, TN.
A
Celebration of Kathy's life was held at First Baptist Church of
Blairsville,
GA, on Saturday, March 10, 2012, with pastor Dr. Fred Lodge, supervisor
Jeanette Garrett, and brother-in-law Dr. Michael E. King officiating.
Special
music was presented by FBC Minister of Music R. Terry Hooper, The FBC
Youth
Choir, Kurtis Underwood, Michelle Rowe and
Paula Jean
Redditt.
In
lieu of flowers, a college fund for Nathanael has been set up with
United
Community Bank and donations may be made at any branch location.
The
family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and support during
Kathy's
battle.

Mrs.
Minnie Lou Schartz, age 90, of Robert Hull
Lane,
Blairsville, passed away, Thursday, March 8, 2012 at her home following
an
extended illness. Mrs. Schartz was born
November 10,
1921 in Henryville, TN to the late James B. and Florence L. Winters
Craig. She
moved here 10 years ago from Deland, FL. She was preceded in death by
her
husband Stanley R.J. Schartz in 2004. Mrs Schartz was a
member of First
United Methodist Church of Union County.
Survivors
include her daughter, Barbara Hull of Blairsville, grandchildren,
Patrick Hull
of Blairsville, Susan Hull of Blairsville, great grandchildren, Andrew
O’Brien
of Blairsville and Dalton Patterson of Blairsville.
Memorial
services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the
Veterans
Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA. In lieu of flowers make
memorials to
the Humane Society Mountain Shelter.
