Mrs. Teresa Ann Barnard, age 46, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006 at her residence.

Mrs. Barnard was born Monday, November 23, 1959 in Towns County, Georgia to Bonnie Lee Garrett Ledford of Blairsville and the late Taft D. Ledford.

Survivors include: son, Justin Matheson of Hayesville, NC, daughter, Jelena Matheson of Blairsville, sisters, Doris Jones of Blairsville, Hilda Parker of jasper, GA and Annie Lou Keys of Blairsville, brothers, James Ledford of Dallas, GA, Glen Ledford of Blairsville and Don Ledford of Young Harris, grandsons, Dylan Scott Grizzle and Timothy Jordan Lee Stevens, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Youngblood and Rev. Steve Cothren officiating.  Music was provided by Ryan Wilson.  Interment will follow in Old Brasstown Baptist Church.  Serving as pallbearers were: Tommy Parker, Toby Patterson, Danny Joe Allen, Charles Allen, Anthony Brown, Roger Long.  Honorary pallbearer was: Michael Parker.

mr. miles “mike” tamisiea

 

Mrs. Miles “Mike” Tamisiea, age 79, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Bradenton, FL, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006 at his residence.

Mr. Tamisiea was born Tuesday, June 1, 1926 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to the late Clement Tamisiea and Ellen Walch Tamisiea.  He was a U.S. Navy Veteran during WWII and member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Elks.  He was preceded in death by sister, Joan Tamisiea, brothers, Howard and Clement Tamisiea.

Survivors include: wife, Colleen Tamisiea of Blairsville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Leon Kramer of St. Paul, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Robyn Tamisiea of Bradenton, FL; son and daughter-in-law, William and Onika Tamisiea of Bradenton, FL; brother Leo Tamisiea of Overland Park, KS; sisters, Clementine Moffitt of Neola, Iowa and Sister Mary Agnes Tamisiea of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Bradenton, FL>

mrs. betty coleman stinson

 

Betty Coleman Stinson, age 81, of Blairsville, formerly of Macon, died on Thursday, March 9, 2006, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 11th, 2006 at 4 p.m. at the Swainsboro City Cemetery with Rev. Bob Blankenship officiating.

The family met with visitors at 3 p.m. at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary prior to the graveside service.

Mrs. Stinson was a native of Emanuel County, was retired from Robins Air Force Base and was a member of Glenwood Hills Baptist Church in Macon.  She and her husband moved from Macon to Blairsville three years ago.  She was born September 11, 1924, to Lester Rufus Coleman and Flora Mae Tyson Coleman of Swainsboro.

Mrs. Stinson is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hilton C. Stinson of Blairsville, GA; 3 sons: Larry B. (Barbara) Stinson of Macon, GA, Fred G. (Phyllis) Stinson of Blairsville, GA, and Michael H. (Gaye) Stinson of Flowery branch, GA; 1 sister: June Malone of Savannah, GA; 6 grandchildren: randy (Ashleigh) Stinson of Cumming, GA, Sherry (Robert) Anderson of lake Mary, FL, Ashley P. Stinson of Macon, GA, Robert Stinson of Denver, CO, Camden Stinson and Kyle Stinson of Flowery Branch, GA; 3 great-grandchildren: Kristen Ward of Lake Mary, FL, Courtney Stinson of Alto Loma, CA, and Jayden Stinson of Flowery Branch, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jay C. Cantrell, age 78 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Union General Hospital.

Mr. Cantrell was born Friday, July 1, 1927 in Fannin County, Georgia to the late James William Cantrell and Candy Hickey Cantrell.

Survivors include: wife, Elaine Cantrell of Blairsville, GA, daughters, Peggy Sue Smith of Puebelo, CO, Judy Ann Snider of Kent, OH, Joan Lynn Madden of Kent, OH and Patsy Jean Cantrell of Blairsville, GA, sister, Sis Seabolt of Morganton, GA, grandchildren, Todd and Troy Berisford, Tammy Hoffman, Thomas, Julian and Steven Snider and January Madden, great-grandchildren, Crystal Berisford, Emma, Brandon, Austin and Hailey Snider and Travis Hoffman, special children, Kimberly Ruth Yun and Lillian Grace Lovell, several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 26th, 2006, at 2 p.m., at Meeks Park Pavilion #3, with Pastor Randy Hughes officiating.  All friends and family are welcome to attend.

mrs. vina thomas cook

 

Mrs. Vina Thomas Cook, age 97 of Trackrock Church Rd., Blairsville passed away on Monday, March 6, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Cook was born on August 10, 1908 in Towns County, the daughter of the late Ed Thomas and the late Fannie Mae McClure Thomas.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Cook, two sons, Herbert Cook and Travis Cook, three daughter in laws, Helen Cook, Lily Ruth Cook and Olean Cook, Five sisters, Ruby, Thelma, Pauline, Irene and Flora, and also by three brothers, John, Nathan and Harvey.  Mrs. Cook was a member of the Trackrock Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs. Cook are one daughter and son-in-law, Vivian Verona and Jimmy Cook of Blairsville, three sons and two daughter-in-laws, E.L. Cook of Blairsville, Eugene and Ruby Nell Cook of Andrews, NC, James and Sue Cook of Blairsville, Albert Cook of Blairsville, sister, Era Mae Penland of Blairsville, nineteen grandchildren twenty-six great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 9, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Trackrock Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Denny Moss officiating.  Special music was presented by the Trackrock Church choir.  The body lie in state at the church from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Darrell, Gerald, Loy, Barney and Troy Cook and Joe Jordan.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs. Dorothy B. Sauer, age 98 of Wesley Mtn. Drive (Branan Lodge) Blairsville passed away on Monday March 6, 2006 in the Union County Nursing home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Sauer was born on May 5, 1907 in Jacksonville, FL, the daughter of the late John E. Bigelow and the late Marion Lindley Bigelow.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Sauer, Sr.  She had made her home in Blairsville for the past seven years, moving here from West Palm Beach, FL.  Mrs. Sauer was a member of St. Clare’s Episcopal Church.

Surviving Mrs. Sauer are one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Joan Sauer of Clayton, GA, one granddaughter, Suzanne Sauer, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service for Mrs. Sauer will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to St. Clare’s Episcopal church in Mrs. Sauer’s memory.

newton m. nix

 

Newton M. Nix, 81, died Saturday, February 4, 2006.  Born in Blairsville, GA, he was the son of the late Will jasper and Onie West Nix.  He was married to Stella Funderburk Nix.  He was a Springs Industries retiree, a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of Lancaster; a daughter, Patricia Nix Price and her husband, Tee, of Lancaster; a son, William M. “Billy” Nix of Lancaster; a stepdaughter, Mary Ann Robinson of Lancaster; a sister, Rosa Lee Owenby of Michigan; two brothers, Harrison Nix of Blairsville, GA and Walt Nix of Reidsville, GA; four grandchildren, Jimmy Nix, Mitch Nix, Shane Price and Jay Robinson; and four great grandchildren, Samantha Nix, Haley Nix, Eli Nix and Makenzie Price.

Services were held Monday at Antioch Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Pat Minihane.  Burial with Masonic Rites was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. ruby evans

 

Mrs. Ruby Evans, age 93, of Fern Brook, Blairsville passed away on Friday, March 10, 2006 in the Union County Nursing home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Evans was born in Brodhead, KY, the daughter of the late Jess Brown and the late Ruth Ann Procto Brown.  She had retired from a Glass Factory in Indiana after many years of service.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Anne Cline in 2005 and by her husband, Francis Evans.  Mrs. Evans was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving Mrs. Evans are one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jim Vorhess of Selma, IN, one sister, Neva Evans of Albany, IN, son-in-law, Richard cline of Blairsville, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, march 15, 2006 from the Parson-Rust Funeral Home Chapel in Albany, IN, with the rev. Ron Drown officiating.  Interment followed in the Strong Cemetery in Albany.  The family will met with friends on Tuesday evening at the Parson-Rust funeral home.
