Mr. Forest William "Bill"
Houck, age 90, of Rocky Circle, Blairsville, passed away on Monday,
March 7,
2011 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Houck was born on July 11, 1920 in
Morenci, Michigan, the son of the late Fitzhugh Houck and the late
Florence
Fenton Houck. He was a veteran of the
U.S. Air Force of WWII. He retired in
1989 from the Robbins Appliances in Tampa Florida with over 15 years of
service. Mr. Houck was a member of the
American Legion. He was preceded in
death by one daughter Sue Walters in 1995.
Mr. Houck was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving Mr. Houck are
his loving
wife of sixty-nine years, Marilyn Goodyear Houck of Blairsville, one
daughter
Jan Hall of Charleston, South Carolina, one son and daughter-in-law
Steve and
Joan Houck of Waxhaw, North Carolina, one brother Fenton Houck of
Odessa,
Florida, eight grandchildren Missy, Debbie, Beckie,
Chris, Pat, Terry, Jeff and Laurie, 21 great-grandchildren, two nephews
and
many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service for Mr.
Houck was
held on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 4 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel
with
Minister Terry Stuart officiating. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be
made to
the Union County Nursing home in memory of Mr. Houck.
The family met with friends at the funeral
home following the services.

Mr. Fred A. Geesa,
age 77, of Nottley Shores West,
Blairsville, passed
away on Sunday March 6, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home following
an
extended illness. Mr. Geesa was born on
July 22, 1933
in Creston Indiana, the son of the late Fred Geesa
and the late Julia Stuppy Geesa. Mr. Geesa retired
in 1996 from the state of Georgia after over 18 years of service. He was a member of the Decatur Sportsman's
Club. Fred was a loving husband and
father and was a friend to many. Mr. Geesa was a member of the Saint Michael’s
Lutheran Church
of Doraville Georgia.
Surviving Mr. Geesa
are his loving wife of 52 years, Marie Hasz
Geesa of Blairsville, one daughter and
son-in-law Marie and
Mike Bain of Buford Georgia, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
A Memorial service for Mr.
Geesa will be held at a later date in New
Hampshire. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be
made to
a favorite charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Geesa.

Mrs. Wilma McGaha McConnell, age 85 of Blairsville, GA
passed away on
Friday, March 11, 2011 following a period of declining health. She was born to the late Dock B. and Nellie
(Woods) McGaha on September 24, 1925 in
Warne,
NC. She is survived by her daughter,
Barbara Hughes, of Blairsville, GA; sons, Norman McConnell, of
Hiawassee, GA, Buryl McConnell, of Young
Harris, GA; brothers, Clyde McGaha, of
Texas; D.B. McGaha, of
Young Harris, GA; Hoyl McGaha,
of Michigan; sister, Imogene Lewis, of Gainesville, GA; four
grandchildren,
five great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also
survive.
Funeral
services were
held on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Banister
Funeral
Home with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating.
Pallbearers
were: David Cox, Tony Lewis, Tommy Lewis, Jay Rennie,
Joe Young and Ian Petkebich.
Music was provided by Ryan Wilson. Interment
was in Burch cemetery.

Mrs. Marie N. Shields, age
89, of
Shields Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011
following
an extended illness. Mrs. shields was born on February 25, 1922 in Cisco,
Georgia, the
daughter of the late Ottis Headrick
and the late Jesse Rymer Headrick. Mrs.
Shields loved to cook and garden. She was
a loving mother, sister, grandmother
and great-grandmother. Her family was
her life. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Carl Shields in 1995, one sister Mildred Fountain, four
brothers,
Tommy, Colvard, Dickie,
and
Eugene Headrick and one grandson, Jeffrey
Shields. Mrs. Shields was a member of
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Shields are
six
children, Sue and Chester Pasko of
Sutherland,
Virginia, Mike and Beverly Shields of Edgefield, South Carolina, Eve
and Joe Penland of Blairsville, Nancy and
Joey Murphy of
Blairsville, David and Ana Shields of Roswell, Georgia, Janice and Gary
Payne
of Blairsville, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Maggie Wimpy of
Young Harris,
Linda and Arnold Murphy of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law,
Robert
and Gail Headrick of Cloudland, Georgia,
three
sisters-in-law, Janie " Cricket" Headrick
of Dalton, Ivey Headrick and Jean Headrick
both of Crandall, Georgia, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren,
many other
relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held
on
Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with the
Rev.
Bruce Headrick and Rev. Steve Youngblood
officiating. Special music was presented
by Michelle Webb. The following
gentleman served as pallbearers, Brian Pasko,
Ricky
Shields, Robert Velasco, Jacob Bolton, Jonathan Payne and Patrick
Fleming. Interment followed in the
Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church Cemetery. The family met
with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6 – 9 p.m.

Mr.
Paul K. Ivy, Jr., age 74, of Suches,
formerly of
Doraville, died March 9, 2011. Mr. Ivy
was born in Norcross, GA. He was a
veteran of the U. S. Army and was retired from Lucent Technology. Mr. Ivy was a loving and caring husband,
father and grandfather, who loved to fish and camp.
He
is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bette H. Ivy of Suches;
daughters, Robin Lynn Lambert and her husband, Mitchell of Ft. Worth,
TX and
Renee Linda Ivy-Zubek of Milton; son, randy
L. Ivy
and his wife Karen of Alpharetta; sisters, Frances Ware of Waycross and
Louise
Womack of Kennesaw; brothers, James Ivy of Blue Ridge, Larry Ivy of
Roswell and
Franklin Ivy of Monroe; grandchildren, Ashley Danielle Ivy, Alexandria
Nicole
Ivy, Amanda Katherine Lambert, Jordan Tate Lambert, Ryan Mitchell
Lambert,
Lauren Alicia Zubek and Taylor Anthony Zubek.
Graveside
services were held on Friday, march 11,
2011 at 11 AM
at North Atlanta Memorial Park. The
family received friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 PM and 5 to 8 PM at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and

Mr. Victor Ralph
Hamburger, age 86,
of Nantahala Lane, Blairsville, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011,
in
Cumming, Georgia, following an extended illness. Mr.
Hamburger was born on January 25, 1925,
in Summerville, South Carolina, the son of the late Victor Hamburger
and the
late Mildred Sweat Hamburger. Mr.
Hamburger retired from Eastern Airlines in 1983, after 37 years of
service. A veteran, Mr. Hamburger served
in the United States Navy during WWII.
Vic joined the Lions Club in 1983 and is a member of the Georgia
Lions
Hall of Fame. He was a loving husband,
father, and grandfather and was a friend to many. Mr.
Hamburger was a member of the Sharp
Memorial Methodist Church in Young Harris.
Surviving Mr. Hamburger
are his
loving wife of 47 years, Melissa Jean Hamburger of Blairsville; one
daughter
and son-in-law Susan and Randy Shook of Gainesville; two sons and one
daughter-in-law, Bruce Hamburger, and Mark and Tana
Hamburger, all of Jacksonville, Florida; six grandchildren; Jennifer,
Kyle, and
Courtney Shook and Derek, Ashley, and Aaron Hamburger.
Many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral services were held
on
Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 5 p.m. at the Mountain View Chapel with the
Rev. Darris Baker officiating.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of the Union County
Lions
Club. Flowers are accepted, or in lieu
of flowers memorials may be made to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse for
the Blind
in memory of Mr. Hamburger. Interment
followed
at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The family met
with
friends at the funeral home on Sunday anytime after 3 p.m.

Mrs.
Venola Tow, age 81, of Dahlonega, Georgia,
died March
11, 2011.
Mrs.
Tow was born in Suches, Ga. and had lived
in Lumpkin
County for a number of years. She was a
homemaker and a member of harmony Church of God in Suches,
Ga.
She
was the daughter of the late Ben Harkins and Alice Stover Harkins. She was also preceded in death by her
husband, Rev. Dillard Tow; and a son, Larry Tow.
She
is survived by a sister, Barbara Grizzle, Dahlonega, Ga.; sister/niece,
Gale
Smith, Dahlonega, Gal; brothers, J.W. Harkins, Suches,
GA, Rezin Harkins, Dahlonega, Ga.; nephew,
Bobby
Brewer; nieces, Linda Adams, Pat Welch, and Teresa Harkins.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, march
14, 2011 at
the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.
Rev. Keith Weese and Rev. Bobby
Brewer
officiated. Interment followed in Mt.
Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.
The
family received friends at Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega on
Sunday, March
13, 2011 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Monday, March 15, 2011 until
