mrs. bennie lee fortenberry brown
Mrs.
Bennie Lee Fortenberry Brown, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed
away
Saturday, February 27, 1999 at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Brown
was born in Union County, Georgia, on Friday, December 17, 1915, a daughter of the late Thomas Fortenberry and
Minnie Potts
Fortenberry. She was a homemaker and was
a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs.
Brown was of the Methodist faith. She
was preceded in death by her husband, the late Lum O. Brown, who passed
away in
May of 1996, and a son, Joe Franklin brown, in July of 1996.
Survivors
include: daughter, Florence Winkler, of Blairsville; son, Robert Brown,
of
Smyrna, Georgia; daughter, Velma Harkins, of Blairsville; daughter,
Shirley
Burnette of Gainesville; son, Lum Jr. Brown, Sr., of Marietta;
daughters, Clara
Dyer, Bonnie Henderson, both of Blairsville; and son Jack Brown, also
of
Blairsville; brother, W.D. Fortenberry, of Gainesville, Georgia; 25
grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and
many
nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, March 1, 1999 at 2 p.m.
from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev.
Horace Potts
and Rev. Eugene Holder officiating. Special music was presented by Ned
Wilcoxon, Willaree Davenport, and Doris Hefner.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Terry Hedden,
William
Winkler, Herbert Hedden, Tim Brown, Lum Jr. Brown, Jr., Doug Brown,
Ernie
Harkins, and Chief Mst. Sgt. James Harkins.
Interment was in Coosa Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
R. Dewees Lewis, age 87, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday,
Marchh10, 1999 in Union County, Georgia.
Mr. Lewis
was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, January 2, 1912, a son of
the
late Reynolds M. Lewis and Anna May Phillips Lewis.
Mr. Lewis moved to this area in 1989, coming
here from Homosassa Springs. He was a
member of the Moose Lodge #1273, of Phenixville, Pennsylvania. Mr. Lewis had attended The HOUSE of Prayer in
Bartlesville.
Surviving are
his wife, Victoria Griboski Lewis, of Blairsville; daughter and
son-in-law,
Sandra Lewis and Harry Burchardt, of Blairsville; half sister, LaRae
Hall, of
Cheridan, Wyoming; 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great,
great
grandchildren also survive.

mr. louis michael qualtieri, III
Mr.
Louis Michael Qualtieri, III, age 23, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed
away
Saturday, March 6, 1999.
Mr.
Qualtieri was born in Broward County, Florida, on Monday, September 15,
1975. He had been living in Blairsville
for 8 years, coming here from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Mr. Qualtieri was an officer of the Stat
Department of Corrections. He also owned
and operated his own business, a landscaping service, in which he took
great
pride. He attended Mt. Zion Church of
God.
Surviving are
his wife, Stephanie Dyer Qualtieri; daughter, Rebecca and son, Michael,
IV, all
of the home; his parents, Louis Michael, II, and Lynanna Rothe
Qualtieri, of
Hiawassee; sisters: Tammy Connolly of Blairsville; Pauletta Tyrrell of
Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida and Carolyn Wilson Mull, of Hiawassee; many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
Mass was held Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at 1 p.m. from
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, with Father Tim Gadziala and
Rev. Rayburn
Wilson officiating. Special music was
presented
by Glen and Sheila Eller. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ricky Mull, Brad Thompson, Terry
Parker, Eddie
Lyons, Harold Mest, and Larry Vecchione.
The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family:
Tim
Moore, and Stuart Nichols. Interment was
in Mt. Zion Church of God Cemetery.

Mr.
Junior Ehrwood Lewis, age 76, of North Charleston, SC, formerly of
Blairsville,
passed away Monday, March 8, 1999 at his home in North Charleston. Mr. Lewis was born April 25, 1922 in Union
County the son of Jewell Carlton and Nettie Bell Swanson Lewis.
Mr. Lewis
was a member of the Portside Baptist Church in North Charleston, was a
retired
high voltage electrician with the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of
the Order of the Arrow; was an active supported of the Boy Scouts of
America;
coach with the Hanahan Playground and church sports teams; and had been
a
Sunday school teacher at the Holmes Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Essie Lewis of the home; 4 daughters, Lillie Varner
of Goose
creek, SC, Laraine Roe of North Charleston, SC, June Iris ones of
Edmond, OK,
and Darlene Slaton, also of Goose Creek; son, Jewell Ehrwood Lewis of
North
Charleston; brother, Weed Everett Lewis of Blairsville; 11
grandchildren and 6
great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 11,
1999 from the Portside Baptist Church with interment in the Carolina
Memorial
Cemetery.

Mrs.
Dorothy Palumbo, age 79, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday, March
3, 1999 in Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Mrs.
Palumbo was born in Hartford, Connecticut on Sunday, December 18, 1919,
a
daughter of the late John Isaac and Sue Jones Isaac.
She had been living in the Blairsville area
since 1996.
Surviving are son, Joseph R.
Palumbo, of Blairsville; daughter in law,
Sheila Palumbo, of Blairsville land grandsons: Joseph R. Palumbo, Jr.,
and
Michael Thomas Palumbo, both of Blairsville; brother, Howard Isaac, of
Connecticut. Cousins and other relatives
also survive.
