ms. patsy jean hughes

 

Ms.  Patsy Jean Hughes, age 41, of Blairsville, GA passed away Thursday, March 7, 2002 at her home.

Patsy was born March 29, 1960 in Lumpkin County, GA.  She was employed by Speedling Greenhouse in Blairsville.  Patsy was a member of Ebenezer Baptist church.

She is survived by her parents, Worth and Mary Nell Hughes of Blairsville, GA; sons, Weston Lackey of Winston-Salem, NC, David Dockery and Danny Dockery, both of Blairsville, GA; sisters, Debra Reese of Cleveland, GA, Jane Nichols and Judy Roberts both of Blairsville, GA; brothers, Michael Hughes and Robert Hughes, both of Blairsville, GA; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 14, 2002 at 2 pm at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev. Tommy Jones officiating.   Music was provided by the Faith Singers, Ned Wilcoxon and the Phillips family.  Pallbearers were Jonathan Lloyd, Billy Hughes, Dustin Phillips, Daniel Hughes, Reggie Roberts and Tommy Lloyd.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. james harrell mauney

 

Mr.  James Harrell Mauney, age 75, of Harrell Mauney Road, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Mauney was born on January 13, 1927 in Union County, the son of the late Bascom Mauney and the late Beedie Davenport Mauney.  Mr. Mauney was a native and lifelong resident of Union county and was a retired Rural Mail Carrier.  HE was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Allegheny Lodge #114, a member of The American Legion, The DAV, the VFW, and the Eastern Star.  Mr. Mauney was a member of the Revival Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Mauney are his loving wife of forty four years, Ruth Elizabeth McCarter Mauney of Blairsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Kaylon Grubbs of Warner Robins, GA; one son and daughter-in-law, James Harrell Jr. and Becky Mauney of Ontario, OR two sisters, Louise Bradley and Evelyn Mauney, both of Blairsville; four grandchildren, Jake and Jared Grubbs, Aaron and Matthew Mauney, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at 11 am from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Donald Davenport officiating.  Special music was presented by Becky Mauney and Revival Baptist Church Choir.  Services were also conducted by the Blairsville Order of the Eastern Star.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Dr. Ben Philpot, Roy Phillips, Kaylon Grubbs, Jack Lance, Carlton Colwell, and Junior Towe.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Glenn Gooch, Dr. George Gowder, Clyde Collins, and Willard Floyd.  Interment followed in the Revival Baptist Church Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard and the Allegheny Lodge conducting the graveside services.

mr. kevin arthur yole

 

Mr. Kevin Arthur Yole, age 57, of Rainbow Drive, Blairsville passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2002 in the Union General hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Yole was born on October 7, 1944 in Glenn Falls, NY, the son of the late R. William Yole and the late Corneila Herlihy Yole.  Mr. Yole had served as a deputy with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department.  He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving Mr. Yole are his loving wife of thirty two years, Kathy Refner Yole of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Sandra Yole, Jr. of Flowery Branch, GA; one daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Bradley Burrell of Blairsville; one sister, Sheila Wilson of Royal Palm Beach, FL; two brothers, Richard Yole of W. Palm, Patrock Yole of Hudson, NY; three grandchildren, Devon Yole of Flowery Branch, Andrew and Emily Burrell of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services for Mr. Yole will be held March 22, 2002 at 11:30 am from the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Rev. Balappa Selvaraj officiating.  Interment will

Follow in St. Clare’s Columbarium.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Yoles Memory.

mr. cranford hamilton nix, jr.

 

Mr. Cranford Hamilton Nix, Jr., age 33, of Berckley, MI, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 in Michigan.  Mr. Nix was born on January 17, 1969 the son of Cranford Hamilton Nix and Alva Dean Black Nix.  Mr. Nix was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Fannie Nix and Ralph and Georgia Black.  He was a member of the Shady Grove Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Nix are his wife, Natatia Altringer Nix of Berkley, MI; two sons, Phineas and Aesop Smith of Baltimore, MD; father, Cranford Hamilton Nix, Sr., of Berkley, MI; mother, Alva Dean Nix of Blairsville; four sisters, Sharon Huffstueter of Crystal River, FL, Shelley Stephens of Holiday, FL, Sandra Porter of Berkley, MI, and Sheila Pry of Tampa, FL; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 17, 2002 at 3 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer and Rev. Bob Bone officiating.  Special music was presented by John and Clayton Nix, Sarah Kelley, Edward Mashburn, Donald Teague and Ken Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: John Negosian, Geoff Stephens, Mike Jones, Joe Finkle, Bob Dancer and Matt Picheco.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were Josh Stephens, Andrew Olsen and Marcus Porter.  Interment followed in the Owltown Church of God Cemetery.

mr. norman leslie james

 

Mr. Norman Leslie James, age 82, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2002, at his son’s home in Annapolis, Maryland after a long battle with lung cancer.

Mr. James was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, of July 5, 1919, a son of the late Frederick J.L. James and Mary Hepp James.  Mr. James was a veteran of the US Army.  During WWII, he participated in the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.  Following the war her married the late Sara Louise Whitnum of Bay Village, OH.  They lived in Bay Village until 1956 when they moved to Lake Worth, FL.  In 1993, Mr. and Mrs. James moved to Blairsville, GA, following his retirement as owner of an auto parts company.  In Blairsville, MR. James was a member of the Lions’ Club.

Surviving Mr. James are his son, Robert Leslie James of Annapolis, Maryland; daughter, Susan Carol Lyle, of West Palm Beach, FL; son, William Frederick James of Tallahassee, FL; two brothers: Raymond and George James; sister Ethel James, all of south Florida.  Mr. James is also survived by five grandchildren: James Lyle, Ashley James, Matthew James, Kari Ferguson, and Kim Blanton; and four great-grandchildren: Garrett and Megan Blanton, and Hannah and Sara Lyle.

The family gathered with friends on Saturday, March 16, at the home of Mr. James in Blairsville, GA.  His ashes will be interred during a funeral ceremony in Lake Worth, FL on April 13.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, Maryland 21108.

mr. franklin d. nix

 

Mr. Franklin D. Nix, 60, of 111 S. College Avenue, Newton, died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.

Born April 29, 1941 in Blairsville, he was the son of the late Willard and Lissie Ryder Nix and was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy in Granite Falls.  He retired from Carolina Mills in Newton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Karen Hall; one sister, Earsley Nix; and three brothers, William, Gene and Onley Nix.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Nix of the home; two sons, William Nix of Sawmills and Todd Nix of Conover; three stepsons, mark Helms of Newton, Steve Helms of Newton and Rick Helms of Catawba; two stepdaughters, Susan Kovilak of Mountain View and Kimberly Prather of Newton; two sisters, Kathleen Culberson and Alwayne Harkins, both of Blairsville, GA; one brother, Harrison Nix of Sawmills; 12 grandchildren; and eight-great grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted by Rev. Randy Queen at 8 pm on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Drums Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will be at the Nix Family Cemetery in Blairsville, GA.
