mrs. sylva marie kotouc clema

 

Mrs. Sylva Marie Kotouc Clema, age 87, of Stonehenge, Murphy Hwy., Blairsville, who passed away on Monday, March 13, 2000 following a brief illness.  Mrs. Clema was born on June 5, 1912 the daughter of the late Lute B. Kotouc and the late Ema Novak Kotouc.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Humboldt, NE, a member of the Eastern Star and also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa.  She was preceded in death by he husband, Joe A. Clema in 1981.

Surviving Mrs. Clema are two sons and one daughter-in-law, William (Bill) Clema of McCaysville, Dr. Joe A. and Estell Clema of Herndon, Virginia; two grandchildren, Kristy Conway of Long Beach, CA., Jenny Clema of san Francisco, CA; one great grandchild, Sean Conway of Long Beach, CA; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services and interment will be held in the Humboldt Cemetery in Humboldt, NE.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests, if you wish, memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation in Mrs. Clema’s Memory.

mrs. mildred louise rice

 

Mrs. Mildred Louise Rice, age 59, of Rice Drive Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at her home following a brief illness.  Mrs. Rice was born on March 30, 1940 in Towns County the daughter of the late Fred Conley and the late Vista Deyton Conley.  She was a life time resident of Union County and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Young Harris.  She was preceded in death by a brother Robert Conley in 1986 and also her father and mother, Fred and Vista Conley.

Surviving are her loving husband, Rev. James Rice of Blairsville; three daughters, Heather Smith of Michigan, Amy Rice Bowles of Blairsville, Pam Palmer of Marietta; two sons, Mike Rice of Virginia, Josh Rice, of Virginia, two sisters and brother in laws, Betty and Vinson Hooper of Blairsville, Debbie and Terry Whitfield of Powder Springs; three brothers and one sister in law, Roy and Erma Conley of Powder Springs, Leon Conley of Cummings, Richard Conley of Cummings, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 8, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Harper and Rev. Jerry Rice officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young and Brandon Davenport.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Jeff Fortenberry, Donnie Fortenberry, rex Rice, Tim Hooper, Johnny Hooper, Bradley Rice.  Interment followed in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. marcus m. lowenthal

 

Mr. Marcus M. Lowenthal, age 74, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Forest Park, Georgia, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2000 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Lowenthal was born July 8, 1925 in Bibb County, Georgia a son of the late Marcus Melville and Sadie Burdette Loernthal, Sr.  He was a WWII U.S. Marine Veteran and was a retired mail carrier.  Mr. Lowenthal had been active in the Forest Park Masonic Lodge #399 F&AM for many years where he was a Past Master.  He had always been an active volunteer in many community affairs, having served in various capacities His interest included model railroading and golf.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret S. Lowenthal of the home; son and daughter in law, Carl and Kay Lowenthal, of Hampton, Georgia; daughter and son in law, Lynn and Eddie Black of palmetto, Georgia; sisters, Martha Starnes of Orlando, Florida and Jean Harmon of Douglasville, Georgia; grandson, Christopher Lowenthal of Hampton, Georgia, granddaughter, Kelly Lowenthal, of Hampton, Georgia, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 19, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Danny parries officiating.  Music was provided by Terry Hooper, Jackie Hill and Jo Mosley.  Pallbearers were Kenneth Jones, Chris Howard, Jesse Collins, Billy Sukoloski, Larry Callahan and Jimmy Clark.  Interment was in Choestoe Baptist Cemetery.
