Mr. Estle
J.
Pickelsimer, age 86, of Pickelsimer Rd., Blairsville, passed away on
Friday,
March 18, 2011 in the Chatuge Regional Hospital following an extended
illness.
Mr. Pickelsimer was born on Feb. 26, 1925 in Blue Ridge, GA, the son of
the
late John Pickelsimer and the late Fannie Warren Pickelsimer. He was a lifelong resident of Union County. He was a loving brother, uncle and was a
friend to many. He was preceded in death
by two brothers, Elmer and Everett Pickelsimer, four sisters, Pauline
Cobb,
Geraldine Totherow, Niner Snedigar and Bertie Davis. Mr.
Pickelsimer was a member of Coopers Creek
Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr.
Pickelsimer are two brothers and one sister-in-law, Arlin Pickelsimer
of
Blairsville, Rev. Earl and Dorothy Pickelsimer of Blairsville, several
nieces,
nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were
held on Sunday March 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel
with the
Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Special
music was presented by Kenneth and Elaine Young. The
following gentleman served as pallbearers,
Jimmy, Kenneth and Jason Pickelsimer, James Davis, Devin Ledford and
Tim Dyer.
Interment followed in the Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family met with friends at the funeral
home on Saturday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mr.
Buell Dockery, age 75 of Young Harris, GA passed away on Sunday, March
13, 2011
in Erlanger Hospital following a period of declining health. He was born to the late Lester and Othena
(Dye) Dockery on November 01, 1935 in Blairsville, GA. He
is survived by his wife, Christeen Dockery,
of the home; daughter, LuAnn Dockery, of Young Harris, GA; sons, Tony
Dockery,
of Hayesville, NC; Steve Dockery, of Young Harris, GA; brothers, Troy
Dockery,
of Blairsville, GA; Cecil Dockery, of Blairsville, GA; Tommy Dockery,
of Young
Harris, GA; Ralph Dockery, of Blairsville, GA; Marty Dockery, of
Raleigh, NC;
sisters, Wanda Webb and Sherrie Dockery, both of Blairsville, GA; six
grandchildren, one great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews
also
survive.
Funeral
services were held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the
chapel of
Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Gilbert and Rev. Adam Fleming
officiating.
Pallbearers were Jeff Edwards, Cole
Moore, Stephen Dockery, Jonathan Dockery, Tom Arline and Blake Dockery.
Music was provided by The Wilson Family.
Interment was in Pine Log cemetery.

Mrs.
Marion Wilkins Loftis, age 87, of Old
Blue Ridge Hwy., Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011
at her
home following an extended illness. Mrs.
Loftis was born on August 17, 1922 in Durham, North Carolina, the
daughter of
the late Edgar Wilkins and the late Ada Jones Wilkins.
Marion was a loving wife, mother, grandmother
and great-grandmother. Mrs. Loftis was
of the Episcopal faith.
Surviving Mrs. Loftis are her loving
husband of 70 years, Garland Loftis of Blairsville, one daughter and
son-in-law, DeLane and Terry Griffis of Woodstock, Georgia, one son and
daughter-in-law Gary and Marilyn Loftis of Virginia Beach, Virginia,
three
grandchildren Sean Loftis, Shea Loftis and Harrison Griffis, and 2
great-grandchildren Jordan Loftis and Marlaina Griffis.
The family also wants to say a special thanks
to caregivers Tami and John Combest and April Orr.
A memorial services will be held at
a later date. In lieu of flowers if you
wish memorials may be made to the Mountain Shelter Humane Society in
memory of
Mrs. Loftis.

Mr. James
Buford
Cook, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed away on Monday, March 14,
2011, at his
home following an extended illness. Mr.
Cook was born on April 20, 1922, in Cherokee County, NC, the son of the
late Ed
and Dessie Cook. He worked for the TVA
in 1941 and 1942 on the construction of Nottely Dam. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in
Germany, France and Normandy in World War II. He
received the Eamet Campaign Medal with 4
Bronze Service Stars; Good Conduct Medal; AR 600-68 & Victory
Medal. During the War his wife Helen
worked at Bell
Bomber as one of the "Rosie the Riveters".
After the
War he and
Helen purchased a farm in Union County on what today is John Smith Road
East. He was a hard worker in farming and
also
worked in construction, loved to burn brush piles and run a chain saw. He was a great fan of his family, and later
the Atlanta Braves, Andy Griffith Show, Bonanza, and the Party Line
Radio
Program. He was of the Baptist faith and
was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Cherokee County, NC.
Surviving
Mr. Cook
are his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Helen Cook, of Blairsville;
daughter
and son-in-law, Joan and Steve Sullivan of Grayson, GA; son and
daughter-in-law, Gary and Marcia Cook, of Blairsville; sisters: Juanita
Hedden
of Murphy, NC; Winona Hughes of Marietta, GA; and Dovie Dean Nelson, of
Murphy,
NC; brother and sister-in-law, David Hillier and Joan Cook, of
Kennesaw, GA; granddaughters
and husbands, Kristi and Gavin Holmes, of Atlanta; Julie and Ed Hoff,
of
Loganville, GA; grandson and wife, Jonathan and Tiffany Cook, of
Blairsville; grandsons:
Nathaniel and Matthew Cook, of Blairsville; great-grandson, Sullivan
Holmes. Many nieces and nephews also
survive.
In
addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Clonts and
brothers, Von
Cook and Clinton Cook.
Funeral
services were
held on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Larry Hall and Rev. Ronald
Patterson
officiating. Special music was presented
by Teresa Mills and Macedonia Baptist church Choir. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Jonathan Cook, Nathaniel Cook, Matthew Cook, Gavin Holmes, Ed Hoff, and
David
Cook. Burial was in Macedonia Baptist
Church Cemetery in Murphy. Visitation was
held at the funeral home, on Wednesday evening, with the family
especially
meeting with friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mr. Carl
Brown, age
76, of Blairsville, GA passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Brown
was born
on Friday, January 25, 1935, in West Carthage, New York, to the late
Henry and
the late Merril W. Brown. He graduated
West Carthage High School, Class of 1954. Mr.
Brown joined the United States Marine Corp
in January of 1955 and served through 1959, attaining the rank of
Sargeant
(sic). (H&S Company 1st Infantry Regiment, of the Marine Corp
Battalion.) He was stationed at Camp
LeJeune, NC. Mr. Brown was founder of the
Sea Urchins Skin
Diving Club, which eventually was formalized to do search and recovery
for the
criminal investigation department. (CID). Mr. Brown retired from
Stromberg
Carlson Rochester, New York, and managed Edar Marine, of New Port
Richey, FL. He was also a real estate
agent in St.
Petersburg, FL. Mr. Brown was an avid hunter and fisherman; he was a
member of
Chatuge Gun Club. He was a great sports enthusiast, and had played
semi-pro
football and baseball. Mr. Brown was of
the Protestant belief.
Preceding
Mr. Brown
in death besides his parents, was a son, George Brown; a
great-grandson,
Kingston Isaiah Barbour; a sister: Suzanne Rodriguez; a brother,
William Brown;
and a nephew, James Rodriguez, Jr.
He is
survived by
and lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia Brown, of Blairsville;
son and
daughter-in-law, Steven and Nancy Brown, of Blairsville; daughters and
sons-in-law, Donna and Michael Butler, of St. Petersburg, FL and Carla
and
Thomas Brunk, of Dade City, FL; and daughter Marnie Rivieccio, of St.
Petersburg.
Nine grandchildren: Jeffrey Brown,
Kimberly Brown, Jamie Coleman, Chris Butler, Carrie Butler, Samantha
Casagni,
Thomas Brunk, Suzanne Barbour, and Amanda Rivieccio. Many friends and
other
relatives also survive.
Memorial
services

Desaulniers
Gluodenis 80, Harbor Lane, Blairsville, Georgia, passed away March 17,
2011at
her home following a brief illness. Mrs.
Gluodenis was born on September 28, 1930 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter
of the
late Arthur and Eulalie Desaulniers. She
is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles A. Gluodenis, a son and
daughter-in-law, Charles and Kathy Gluodenis of Athens, GA., a son Mark
Gluodenis of Chicago IL, a daughter and son-in-law Anita and Greg
Hebeisen of
Charlotte, NC, a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Lloyd Donald of
Powder
Springs, GA, grandchildren Keith Gluodenis, Drew and Sarah Hebeisen and
Trevor
Donald, brother and sister-in-law Guy and Betty Desaulniers of
Waterbury, CT,
brother-in-Law and sister-in-law Thomas and Mary Gluodenis of Waterbury
CT, as
well as numerous nieces and nephews scattered through the country. She was of the Roman Catholic Faith and
active member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Funeral
services were
held at St. Francis of Assisi Church with Father Richard Wise
officiating. Burial was at St Claire's
Memorial Garden. Visitation was in the
church vestibule at 9 AM
prior to the 10 o'clock Funeral Mass on Monday, March 21, 2011. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family
