elvie mae odom

 

Mrs. Elvie Mae Odom, age 78, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2007.  Mrs. Odom was born Tuesday, March 27, 1928 in Union County, Georgia to the late Ernest Beaver and the late Vestie Thomas Beaver.  She was a designer of models for the Rushton Toy Company.  She was very creative working with her hands, and enjoyed crocheting and quilting.  Elvie also sang gospel music, and was a member of Welcome Grove Baptist Church in Symrna, Georgia.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyet A. Odom in 1998.

Survivors include: daughters, Doris Parker of Ranger, Georgia; Iris Sparks of Ackworth, Georgia; and Eva Lanning of Smyrna, Georgia; son, Alfred Odom of Ellijay, Georgia; brothers, Loys beaver and Randall Beaver, both of Blairsville; sister, Birdie Davenport of Morganton, Georgia; six grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 23, 2007, at 11:00 AS.M. from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Luther Thomas, Rev. Kennith parker and Rev. Avery Beaver officiating.  Music was by Luther Thomas, Sally Robinson and Charlotett Young.  Interment followed in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Loving Road.

ted william cook, jr.

 

Mr. Ted William Cook, Jr., age 80, of Norsk Way, Blairsville, formerly of Live Oak, FL, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mr. Cook was born on July 24, 1926 in St. Petersburg, FL, the son of the late Ted William Cook, Sr. and the late Sarah Powell Cook.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.  He was a member and twice past master of the Carlisle, AK #587 Masonic Lodge F&A.M.  He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.  He was preceded in death by a son, Ted Cook III.  Mr. Cook was a member of the melody Christian Life Center.

Surviving Mr. Cook are one daughter and son-in-law, Candace and D.J. Johnson of Blairsville; one sister, Betty Piepho of Tampa, FL; two grandchildren, Jordan Cook and Isley Rose Johnson; aunt, Jewell Fillman of Tampa, FL; former wife, Rose Rhodes; step-daughter, Sandy Cook, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  Interment will follow in the Bushnell national Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Carlisle Masonic Lodge #587, 920 William St., Carlisle, AK 72024 in Mr. Cook’s memory

roger james floyt

 

Mr. Roger James Floyt, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, march 23, 2007 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

Mr. Floyt was born in Bay City, Michigan, on Friday, may 7, 1943, a son of Dolores martin Floyt and the late Victor Hugo Floyt.  Roger became a Boy Scout, and an Order of the Arrow member.  He went on to become an Explorer, and finally, a Sea Scout.  Roger had graduated from high school with honors and a scholarship to MI Tech in June 9161.  He was still an active Key Club member in College.  While in college, Roger worked as a surveyor.  He joined the U.S. Army, was was a veteran of The Vietnam War, The Gulf War, and The Haiti Conflict.  Roger had lived in Blairsville since 2004, moving here from Fayetteville, North Carolina.  He was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Blairsville.  Preceding him in death was his father, Victor, and a sister, Linda Louise Miller.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Winn Floyt, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, James Kirkland and Vicki Floyt of Clayton, North Carolina; and a daughter, Kristen Leigh Floyt, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his mother, Dolores Floyt, of Blairsville; his mother-in-law, Bernice Winn, also of Blairsville; brother-in-law, Harlie Winn, of Angier, North Carolina; and brother-in-law, Don Winn, of Blairsville, three grandchildren: Megan Bauer, William Floyt, and Olivia Floyt; two nieces, Jennifer Beaver and Kimberly Winn.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. from the All Saints Lutheran Church, with Pastor Dave Wesche officiating.  Military honors will be presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.

faye loretta jones

 

Ms. Faye Loretta Jones, age 65, of National City, CA, passed away March 13, 2007.   She was born October 6, 1943 in Blairsville, GA.  She was a retired assistant book keeper.

She is survived by two sons, Jason and Tim; sisters, Sheila, Rachel, and Darlene; brothers, Jimmy, Rick, and David.

Funeral services will be held April 14, 2007 at 2 p.m. in Blairsville.  Interment will follow in Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the American Lung Association, 9605 Scranton Road, Suite 240, San Diego, CA 92121 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 2D65 W. el Camino Real, Suite C, Mountain View, CA 94040.

dorothy ann haukom

 

Mrs. Dorothy Ann Haukom, age 61, of Walnut Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Haukom was born on August 8, 1945 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of the late David Arnold and the late Mary Ann Zane.  She moved to Blairsville about seven years ago from Auburndale, FL.  Dorothy was her sister Donna’s best friend.  She will be not only missed by Donna, but by her whole family, and also, by all who knew her.  Mrs. Haukom was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Haukom are two sons and one daughter-in-law,, Todd Haukom of Upland, CA, Steven and Anna Haukom of New Port Beach, FL; one daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Curtis Castro of Whittier, CA; one sister, Donna Hammond of Blairsville; niece, Dana, and her husband B.J. Clark of Blairsville, great nephews, Dustin and Cody Meeker of Blairsville, as well as several other nieces and nephews in Florida.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

No services are planned at this time.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Union County nursing Home in Mrs. Haukom’s memory.

becky ann collins moose

 

Mrs. Becky Ann Collins Moose, age 59, of Pat Colwell Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, march 25, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. Moose was born on August 7, 1947 in Lakeland, FL, the daughter of the late C.R. Collins and the late Laverne Cheshire Collins.  Mrs. Moose was a Teacher and had taught at the Union County Middle School for over twenty years.  Mrs. Moose was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Moose are her husband, Garland Moose of Suches; one daughter, Carrie Dotson of Blairsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Jamie Moose of Blairsville, Robby and Amy Moose of Blairsville; thirteen grandchildren, Clay and Brad McConnell, Dalton, Courtney and van Moose, Jake Cothren, Bobby, Isaak, Maya and Maysa Moose, Sabrina Mauck, Samantha Criswell and Whitney Dotson, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, march 28, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Choestoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Parris and Rev. Ken Zollinger officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Coy Dockery, Shannon Carroll, Rodney Moose, Robby Moose Garth Moose, Dwayne Moose and Steven Moose.  Interment will follow in the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.
