Longtime
Blairsville resident Helen Simak passed
away quietly
on March 15, 2012 at the Page Rehabilitation Center in Ft. Myers, FL
after an
extended illness. She loved Blairsville and the Branan
Lodge where she lived until July 2010. She had many good friends in
Blairsville
and will be missed by her friends, family and fellow Braves
fans.
She
was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great
grandmother. She is survived by two daughters and a stepson, five
grandchildren
and numerous grands, great grands
and one great great grandson.
She
was a wonderful baker and enjoyed baking cookies for her large family.
Christmas was her favorite holiday. She never met a dog she didn't like.
Those
who loved her will miss her and pray that she has found eternal peace.
At
her request, there will be no services.

Mrs.
Callie Ozell Jordan, age 89, of Ivy Log
Rd.,
Blairsville, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at her home following
an
extended illness. She was born March 3, 1923 in Cobb County, GA to the
late
John Calvin and Mamie Isabel Ledford Hood. She was a life
long resident of Union County. Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death
by a
daughter, Barbara Ann Jordan Beasley and her husband, Donal
Arthur Jordan. She was a member of the Blairsville Seventh Day
Adventist
Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Jordan are four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ronnie
C. and Barbara Jordan of Blairsville, Arthur Jordan of Blairsville,
Donald and
Debbie Jordan Jr. of Ervin, KY and Tony and Kim Jordan of Blairsville,
two
sisters, Margie Hood Rowell of Blairsville and Susie Mae Henderson of
Blairsville, six grandchildren, Robert Jordan, Regina Jordan, Tonya
Jordan,
Rachel Jordan, Lowell Beasley and Julia Beasley, four great
grandchildren,
Robert Curtis Jordan, Tara Nolte, Ethan Nolte and Keannan
Price, one great grandchild, Valerie Jordan, several nieces, nephews,
many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Mountain
View
Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Yancheson
and
Pastor Valentin Rusu
officiating. Special music were (sic)
presented by
Barbara Jordan and Wayne Ryder. The following gentleman served as
pallbearers:
Arthur Jordan, Matt Beasley, Donald Jordan, Robert Jordan, Sheldon
Henderson
and Swanson Hood. Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Cemetery.
The
family received friends at the funeral on Tuesday evening from 6 until
8 p.m.

Mrs.
Velma Estelle Cain, age 94, of Suches, GA
passed away
at the Union County Nursing Home on Thursday, March 22, 2012. Services
were
held at the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 24,
2012 at 2
PM with Rev. Chad Underwood officiating. Music was by the Philadelphia
Baptist
Church Choir. Pallbearers: Joshua Cain, Ashley Cain, Jonathan Dills,
James
Lunsford, Junior Lunsford and Larry Lunsford. Interment followed in
Zion
Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs.
Cain was born August 29, 1917 in Suches,
GA to the
late Daniel Floyd Lunsford and Laura Abercrombie Lunsford. She was a
lifelong
resident of Union County and a member of Zion Baptist Church in Suches. Mrs. Cain was preceded in death by her
husband, Harley,
infant twins, daughter, Ruth Cain, her mother, father, two brothers and
one
sister. Surviving Mrs. Cain are a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and
Susie Cain
of Cumming, GA, two grandchildren, Joshua and Lorie Cain of Cumming, GA
and
Ashley Cain of Canton, GA and one great grandson, Skyler
Cain, many nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Cain devoted her entire
life as a
caregiver to her husband, who was ill for many years and her special
needs
daughter. Mrs. Cain loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her
family.
Thanks
to the staff of Union County Nursing Home for the love and care given
her
during her stay.
The
family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 until 2
p.m.

Mr.
William “Bill” Carpenter, age 81 of Suches,
GA, died
March 23, 2012.
Mr.
Carpenter was born
in Hayesville, NC. He grew up in Clayton, GA before moving to Suches, GA where in (sic) lived for 49 years.
He
was the son of the late Henry Carpenter and Florence Webb Carpenter. He
was
also preceded in death by his first wife, Ella Mae Carpenter; sons:
William
David Carpenter and Larry Lee Carpenter; sisters: Marie Hunnicut
and Elizabeth Ann Queen; brothers: Clarence, James and Robert
Carpenter;
stepsons: Stanley and Tommy Green; and stepdaughter, Stella Mosley.
He
is survived by his wife, Helen Carpenter, Suches,
GA;
daughters, Jean (Tim Ramsey) Henslee,
Blairsville,
GA, Diana (David) Woody, Suches, GA; son,
Mickey
Carpenter, Social Circle, GA; stepdaughters, Minnie Marcus and Josie
Mosley,
both of Clayton, GA; stepson, Carl Green, Clarkesville, GA;
daughter-in-law,
Sherry Carpenter, Social Circle, GA; sister, Arizona Holt, Clayton, GA;
brothers, Carl Carpenter, Irvin Carpenter, and Howard Carpenter, all of
Clayton, GA. 12 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and
other
relatives also survive.
Funeral
services were scheduled for 3 PM Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Hunter
Funeral Home
Chapel in Clayton, GA.
Rev.
Clarence Drummond and Carl Carpenter officiated.
Interment
followed in Bethel Baptist church Cemetery in Tiger, GA.
The
family received friends from 5 PM until 9 PM on Saturday, Mach 24 at
Banister
Funeral Home in Dahlonega, GA. They received friends on Sunday, March
25 from 1
PM until 3 PM at Hunter Funeral Home in Clayton, GA.
In lieu of
flowers
contributions may be made to the family to help with burial expenses.

Mrs.
Fannie Emma Wahlquist, age 90, of Wesley
Mountain
Drive, Blairsville, passed away, Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee
following an
extended illness. Mrs. Wahlquist was born
August 30,
1921 in Arlington, VT to the late Harold O. and Mary A. Bentley Cole.
She moved
to this area in 1999 from Tamarac, FL. She was preceded in death by her
husband
Carl H. Wahlquist in 1981. Mrs. Wahlquist
was of the Methodist Faith.
Survivors
include daughters, Donna Wagner of Hiawassee and Sandra and Joseph
Marsh of
Blairsville, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Memorial
services will be held in Florida at a later date. Interment will be in
the Star
of David Cemetery in Tamarac, FL. In lieu of flowers make memorial
donations in
Mrs. Wahlquist’s memory to the American
Heart
Association.
