MR. don watson

 

Mr. Don Watson, age 75, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Dayton, Florida, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2000.

Mr. Watson was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy.  He was a retired special investigator with the Florida Department of Insurance and State Treasurer’s Office.  Mr. Watson was a member of the DAV, the American Legion, and the VFW.  He was a Mason and a Shriner.  He had been living in Blairsville area for the past seven years.

Survivors include his wife, Joan P. Watson, of Blairsville; sons, Donald J. Watson, Jr., of Durham, NC and Larry S. Watson, of Clinton, MD; a sister, Dorothy E. Horner, of Hiawassee also survives.

Funeral services were held Friday, march 24, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Eulogies were presented by Jim Poteete, Tommy Brinkley, and Juan Diaz Padron.  Masonic rites were conducted by members of Allegheny Masonic Lodge, #114, F&AM.  Serving as honorary escort to the family were The Shriners.  If you wish, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital.

mrs. emma trammel mckenzie

 

Mrs. Emma Trammel McKenzie, age 63, of Forest Park, GA, formerly of Blairsville and Copperhill, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2000 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mrs. McKenzie was born on may 17, 1936 the daughter of the late Luther Trammel and the late Martha Emma Green Trammel.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Atkinson of California; one son, Jimmie McKenzie of Forest Park; two sisters, Dorothy Manus of Dallas, TX, Frances Henderson of Blairsville; one brother, Eugene Martin of Atlanta; three grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services for Mrs. McKenzie were held on Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at 2 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.

MR. hoyt eugene gribble

 

Mr. Hoyt Eugene Gribble, age 53, of Town Creek School Road, of Blairsville passed away on Friday, March 24, 2000 in the Union Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Gribble was born on November 15, 1946 in Union County the son of the late Frank Alex Gribble and the late Dollie Nebraska Crews Gribble.  Mr. Gribble was a native and life long resident of Union County.

Surviving Mr. Gribble are his loving wife, Gina Parramore Gribble of Blairsville, three sisters and one brother in law, Mazel Hunt, of Blairsville, Mozella and J.D. Crouch of Ocala, FL., Monette Rhodes, of Asheville, N.C., many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, march 27, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Pickelsimer and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Special music was provided by the Rogers Sisters.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, David Allen, Hayden Rich, Brian Plumley, Bert Parramore, Wesley Parramore, and Phillip Parramore.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens.

mrs. judith lynn dyer parker

 

Mrs. Judith Lynn Dyer Parker, age 35, of Old River Road, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2000 from injuries sustained in a house fire.  Mrs. Parker was born on February 6, 1965 in Montgomery, AL, the daughter of John Leonard Dyer and Jerrie Butts Dyer.  She had attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Union County.  She was employed at Charlie’s Restaurant in Blairsville.  Mrs. Parker was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ricky Parker; one daughter, Christal Worley of Blairsville; one son, Toby Beck of Dawsonville; father, John L. Dyer of Florida; mother, Jerrie Butts Goolsby of Blairsville; three sisters, Janie Dyer of Gainesville, Vanessa Dyer of Lula, Mechelle Durrance of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, David Davenport of Blairsville, Jerry Goolsby of Morganton, Chris Goolsby of Blairsville; one grandchild Dakota Cantrell of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 24, 2000 at 2 pm from the Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Morrow and Rev. Tommy Jones officiating.  Special music was presented by Steve and Delga Cox and also Donald Ray Lunsford.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Vester Dills, Buck Dills, Jeff Brewer, Dale Butts, Lee Jones, and Rhett Kootnz.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

A Memorial Fund has been set up for Judy (Dyer) Parker at Union County Bank.

MR. tom charlie brown

 

Mr. Tom Charlie Brown, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, March 20, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.  Mr. Brown was born in Union County, Georgia, on Thursday, February 1, 1917, a son of the late Barney Brown and Velda Mason Brown.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.  Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  He had been preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lou Brown, and a brother, Luther Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Tina Brown of Blairsville; two sons, Charles and David Brown of Blairsville; three sisters, Leila Warren, Stella Chambers, and Betty Jones, all of Blairsville; granddaughter, Dawn Nichols; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Ronnie Abernathy officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Franklin Brown, Ronnie Brown, Randy Brown, Ronnie Adams, Ralph Gillespie and Mike Jones.  Interment was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

MRs. helma j. poling

 

Mrs. Helma J. Poling, age 78, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Orlando, Florida, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2000, in a Franklin, North Carolina nursing facility.

Mrs. Poling was a native of West Virginia, and was preceded in death by her husband, Rolandis Milford Poling, who died in 1099.  She was retired from the State of Florida, where she worked as a nurse.

Survivors include her daughter, Faith Kendrick, of Blairsville, Georgia; a son, Loren Poling, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 25, 2000 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with speaker Wayne Visage officiating.  Entombment was in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Orlando, Florida.
