Mr. James
Robert
Johnson, better known as "Mr. Tick", age 81, of Blairsville, Georgia,
formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011
at
Union General Hospital. Mr. Johnson was
born July 26, 1929 in Jacksonville to the late James Robert Johnson Sr.
and
Lillian Ollie Akin Johnson.
Mr.
Johnson graduated
from Landon High School in Jacksonville and served in the United States
Army
during the Korean War. A favorite hobby
of his was flying radio-controlled airplanes in Jacksonville. He was an amazing watercolor artist and
retired from the Graphic Art Department of the North Georgia News after
living
in Blairsville since 1979. He was a
member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Blue Ridge and a true family
man. He was preceded in death by his
parents;
brother, Ira Joe Johnson; and infant son, Robert Waring Johnson.
He will
be greatly
missed and is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ann Johnson of
Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Dennis Adams of
Sarasota,
Florida; brother, George Walter Johnson, of Jacksonville;
granddaughters,
Amanda Adams and Katie Adams, grandson, Kyle Adams, and close family
friend,
Dave Sosensky. Several nieces and
nephews also survive.
Memorial
Services (sic)
are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011 at St. Luke's
Episcopal
Church in Blue Ridge with the Reverends Mr. Victor Morgan and Mr.
Ronald
Wikander officiating. Interment will
follow at the St. Luke's Episcopal Cemetery.

Mr.
Michael Joseph
Connelly Jr., age 83, of Town View Circle, Blairsville, and Clearwater,
FL,
passed away peacefully at his home in Blairsville following an extended
illness. Mr. Connelly was born on August
30, 1927 in Morristown, NJ, the son of the late Michael Joseph Connelly
Sr. and
the late Nora Conners Connelly. He was a
veteran of the US Army of WWII. He owned
and operated Connelly’s Tire and Auto Repair in Clearwater for over
thirty-four
years. He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and great-grandfather. He
was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Holmquist and Dorothy
Connelly. Mr. Connelly was of the Catholic
faith.
Surviving
Mr.
Connelly are his loving wife of thirty-four years, Brenda Dow Connelly
of
Blairsville and Clearwater, ten children, Robert Connelly of New Hope,
PA,
Marlene Connelly of St. Pete, FL, Michael Connelly of Denville, NJ,
Deborah
Connelly of Seminole, FL, Mary Ellen Connelly of Columbus, OH, Paul
Connelly of
Drums, PA, Brian Connelly of Tarpon Springs, FL, Heather Martin of
Gainesville,
FL, Joseph Nichols of Gainesville, FL, Laura Connelly of Whippany, NJ,
numerous
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends
also
survive.
No
services are
planned at this time. In lieu of flowers
if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency
Hospice
of Hiwassee in memory of Mr. Connelly.

Mr. Roger
Lee Cobb,
age 67, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 in
Union
General Hospital in Blairsville.
Roger was
born in
Ducktown, Tennessee, on Monday, April 19, 1943, a son of the late Ivan
Tiberious Cobb and the late Louetta Smith Cobb.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany, as a mechanic in the
armored
division. A member of Young Cane Masonic
Lodge, F & AM, #597, Roger served as Past Master, District Deputy,
and as
Secretary of Young Cane Lodge for many years.
He was a member and deacon of Union Baptist Church.
Roger is
survived by
and will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Bonnie Nix
Cobb;
daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie and David Webb, and Sarah and Adam
Copeland,
all of Blairsville; sister, Marie Adams, of Cleveland, Georgia; sisters
and brothers-in-law,
Irene and Gerald Mong, of Medina, Ohio; and Wanda and Toby Laster, of
Blairsville; four grandchildren: Chelsea Lee Kinnersley, Tiberious
"Ty" Copeland, Christina “Gracie” Copeland, and Roger Blake Webb. Many nieces and nephews and other relatives
also survive.
Funeral
services
were held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at 3 p.m., at Union Baptist
Church,
with Rev. Tommy Hunt and Rev. Benny Nix officiating.
Special music was presented by Union Baptist
Church Choir. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Buddy Rowan, Richard Corn, Randy Brown, Jerry
Roberts,
Johnny Evans, James Grizzle, Wayne Roberts, and Roy Phillips. Serving as honorary pallbearers were members
of Young Cane Masonic Lodge, #597.
Burial was in Union Baptist Church Cemetery, with graveside
military
honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard and Georgia army national
Guard,
and Masonic Graveside Rites presented by Young Cane Masonic Lodge #597. Visitation at the funeral home began on
Tuesday evening, after 5 p.m., with the family especially meeting with
friends
between the hours of 5 until 9.

Naomi
Belle
Cummings, age 90, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 in the Union
County
Nursing Home. Ms. Naomi was born on July
9, 1920 to Edward and Ella Norris in Huntington, Ohio.
She lived in many areas of the country but
before coming to Blairsville in her latter years, she resided in Vero
Beach, FL
and Bryson City, NC. In Bryson City she
was pianist for Hillside Baptist Church and also at Grace Christian
Academy. The Lord truly blessed Ms.
Naomi with a musical gift that she shared with others all of her life. While at Union County Nursing home she played
in the talent shows and played for quarterly memorial services. She worshiped the Lord with her music and all
who heard her play enjoyed a true worship experience.
Ms. Naomi
was
preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, John W. Swesey. She is survived by their three children:
Patricia Sumner, Anderson SC, Robert (Kay) Swesey, Wellington, OH and
Mary
(Harry) Cox, Blairsville, GA. She was
also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Jack V. Cummings and
is
survived by her step-daughter, Cheryl (Clint) Dahlstrom, BC, Canada. Ms. Naomi was blessed to be called Grandma by
16 and loved as great-grandma by 36. She
is also survived by other relatives and friends. Family
and friends will attend morning church
service at Hillside Baptist Church in Bryson City on Sunday, April 3rd
in honor
of Jack and Naomi.
A
graveside funeral
will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Swain Memorial Park
with Pastor
Alemany and under the direction of Moody Funeral Home, Sylva, NC. You may send condolences online at

Mr. John
(Better
known as Gary) Goode, age 58, Of (sic)
Peachtree Ln., Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011
following a
brief illness. Gary was born on
September 20, 1952 in Orlando Florida, the son of the late James Goode
and Marjorie Harkins Goode. Gary
enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing, sailing, diving, and hunting. He also liked collecting Arrowheads in his
spare time. He was a loving son, father,
brother and was a friend to many. Mr.
Goode was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving
Mr. Goode
are his mother, Marjorie Goode of Blairsville, the mother of
Gary’s
children, Deborah Goode of Blairsville, two sons, Matt Goode and Dustin
Goode
both the Blairsville, one sister Marcia Stewart of Blairsville, two
brothers
and sisters-in-law, David and Gloria Goode of Orlando Florida, Richard
and Jill
Goode of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service
for Mr. Goode was held on Friday March 25, 2011 at 7 p.m. from the
Mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Whitley officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish memorials may
be made to the American Red Cross in Gary's memory. The
family met with friends at the funeral
home on Friday evening from 6-7 p.m., just prior to the services.
