            Mr. James Donald Everett, age 76, of W. Anderson Road, Blairsville passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Wellstar Community Hospice Tranquility following an extended illness. He was born August 11, 1936 in Blairsville, GA to the late Hershel L. and Nina Ree Jones Everett. Donald was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 20 years service, and had worked for 22 years with U.S. Geological Survey. He enjoyed trout fishing, hunting and gardening, and was a loving father, grandfather and brother. Donald was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Adith Everett in January 2013, sister Carolyn Everett and grandson, Layton Emmett Kemp.

            Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Helena and Shawn Kemp of Hiram, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Misty Everett of Lawrenceville, GA, brothers, Arlen and Donna Everett of Marietta, GA, Terry and Lynda Everett of Dallas, GA, Jerry and Sharon Everett of Hiawassee, GA; sisters, Helen Smith of Burlington, NC, Shirley and Bob Stockton of Marietta, GA, Doris and Bobby Kidd of Smyrna, GA and Becky and Don McClain of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Timothy Everett, Robert Everett, Taylor Kemp, Ronnie Kemp and Haven Kemp.

            Funeral services were held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Geri Worley officiating. Music provided by the New Life Singers. Pallbearers were Stacy Jones, Robert Everett, Matt Everett, Scott Jones, Adam Everett, Robbie Stockton. Honorary pallbearers were Taylor Kemp, R.J. Kemp, Mike Allred, Mark Allred and Timothy Everett. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Liberty Hill United Methodist Cemetery Fund or American Kidney Foundation. The family received friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.

            Edmond G. Adams, known to many as Bud, was 73 years old and died at home of an extended illness on Friday, March 29, 2013. He was originally from Warren, OH, but had lived in Florida most of his life and had retired to the Blairsville area 10 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters and their families, Dawn Miller and husband JR; with 2 grandsons, Joshua and Justyn, Suzanne and husband Matt and a granddaughter Ashely (sic). Ed was the oldest of eight siblings, John Adams, of Franklin, NC; Dorothy Brinton, Mike Adams, Evelyn Brindle all in Young Harris, GA; Janet Geir and Sharyn Hytrek in Bradenton, FL and Gary Adams. The body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.

ruth lucille keenum

 

            Mrs. Ruth Lucille Keenum, age 86, of Blairsville, GA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 24, 2013, when she passed away from this life in Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.

            Mrs. Keenum was born Saturday, July 31, 1926 in Murphy, NC, to the late Joe  & Mae (McDonald) Ledford. She was a long time resident of the Hiwassee Dam area in North Carolina before moving to Blairsville, GA.  Ruth graduated from nursing school and worked in a doctor's office for many years.  She always felt that she had a calling to help others and she did.  Eventually, she found a place for her calling at Union County Nursing Home where many came to love and admire her.  She loved working the nursing home and remained there until her retirement.  She loved taking hikes in the mountains of North Georgia and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Ruth and her husband were members of Friendship Baptist Church at Suit, NC.  later, Ruth attended Antioch Baptist Church in Blairsville.  She really enjoyed going to Antioch and had many good friends there.  Ruth loved nature and took walks on the trails of Union County almost everyday.  She was a very energetic person and loved people.  She was always willing to help out wherever needed.  Mrs. Keenum was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Keenum

            Mrs. Keenum will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: two daughters & sons-in-law, Margaret Ann & James Larry Clonts of Blairsville, GA and Helen Marie & Joseph Preston Cook of Duluth, GA; son & daughter-in-law, James Lowell & Melva Keenum of Lilburn, GA.  Mrs. Keenum had four grandchildren, Paula Court of Atlanta, GA, Scott Hughes of Blairsville, GA, Melissa Hawkins of Auburn, GA and James Keenum of Monroe, GA.  Also, Ruth had seven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, Surely, her legacy will last forever.

            Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. George Cline officiating.  Visitation will family and friends was held at the funeral home on Thursday, march 28th, beginning at 11 a.m. and lasted until the hour of the service. Interment followed in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Hiwassee Dam, NC.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Union County Nursing Home, 164 Nursing Home Circle, Blairsville, GA 30512.

jack collins lance

 

            Mr. Jack Collins Lance, age 76, of Pat Haralson Dr., Blairsville passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Union General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born January 27, 1937 in Murphy, NC to the late Cecil Ewing and Bonnie Irene Collins Lance. Jack was co-owner of Hill-Lance Drugs for many years. He graduated Union County High School in 1955 and played basketball for Young Harris College and graduated in 1957. He was a 1962 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. Jack was a member of the Alleghany Masonic Lodge, the Board of B.R.M.E.M.C., and the Union County Historical Society Board. Jack was also involved with and was one of the Founders of the Union County Recreation Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville and the C.R. Collins Sunday School Class. Jack was preceded in death by a brother Cecil Lance Jr. and granddaughter Glenda Gooch.

Survivors include daughters, Kim Terry, Kris and Glendon Gooch, Karen and Chris Kelley, Kayce and Jay Burks, and Kenya and Alan Patton, son, Jack Jr. and Carmen Lance, grandchildren, Brandon Martin, Garrick Martin, Patrick Martin, Madison Terry, Brittany Gooch, Jake Gooch, Seth Merritt, Becka Merritt, Hunter Kelley, Ryan Burks, Nolan Burks, Jackson Burks, Brooke Patton, Bayley Patton, Lance Patton, and many other family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 28, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Eulogy by Jack Lance Jr.  Music was by Scott Lance, Kim Thomas and Jackie Hill. Pallbearers were Brandon Martin, Patrick Martin, Jake Gooch, Seth Merritt, Nolan Burks, Jackson Burks, Luke Colwell, Curtis Turner, and Matthew Collins. Honorary pallbearers included George Berry, Bob Short, Bud Akins, Carlton Colwell, Hoyt Raper, Dr. George Gowder II, Glen Hamby, Charles Nicholson, Billy Decker, Lewis Chapman, Terry Rogers, Jerry Dyer and members of the C.R. Collins Sunday School Class. Interment followed in Ivy Log Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers you can make memorial contributions to the Glenda Gooch Foundation, P.O. Box 2391, Blairsville, GA 30514. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 until 4 p.m. and 5 until 9 p.m.

teresa ann tanner

 

            Mrs. Teresa Ann Tanner, age 41, of Mauney Circle, Blairsville passed away on Friday March 29, 2013 in the Northside Hospital following a battle with cancer. Mrs. Tanner was born on May 6, 1971 in Hayesville, NC, the daughter of Fred Lancaster and Lillie Mae Cothren Lancaster. Teresa was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Her Husband (sic) and children were her life. She was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Lancaster in 1970. Teresa was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

            Surviving Teresa are her loving husband of seventeen years, Doug Tanner of Blairsville, one son Jared Brown of Blairsville, one daughter, Kendra Tanner of Blairsville, father and mother, Fred and Lillie Lancaster of Warne, NC, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ricky and Karen Lancaster of Hayesville, David Lancaster of Young Harris, father and mother-in-law, J. L. and Carolyn Tanner of Blairsville, brother-in-law, Richard Tanner of Blairsville, nieces and nephews, Stephen, Kristian, Hayle and Tryston Lancaster and Brady Tanner, many other relatives and friends also survive.

            Funeral services were held on Monday April 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jason Helton and Rev. Wade Plott officiating. Special music was presented by Leslie Hughes and Kelly Helton. The following gentleman served as pallbearers, James Cothren, Avery Hughes, Richard Tanner, Kevin Hughes, Derrick Hughes and Jay Stroman. Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. Flowers are accepted of if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to a fund set for the children at Park Sterling Bank in memory of Teresa. The family met with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5-9 p.m.
