Mr. Doyle
Patterson, 82, of Union County, Georgia, passed away early Sunday,
March 24,
1996 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Patterson was born
in Union County on June 8, 1913, a son of the late Willie Patterson and
Dora
Thomas Patterson. He was a lifelong
resident of this area and a retired farmer.
He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
A daughter, Irene Deaver, preceded Mr.
Patterson in death. She passed away in
1986.
Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Atha Raper Patterson, of the home; daughter, Gladys
Patterson, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Annie Bell and Hayward
Davis
of Blue Ridge, GA; daughter, Rosa Mae Sparks; son and daughter in-law,
Clinton
and Brenda Patterson; son and daughter-in-law, Clifton and Carolyn
Patterson,
all of Blairsville. Son-in-law, Press
Beavers, of Blairsville; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and
two
great, great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, March 26, 1996 at 2 p.m., from Zion Hill
Baptist
Church with Reverend Mark Towery and Reverend Brent Chatham officiating. Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine
Young. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Jamey Patterson, Robby Patterson, Doug Patterson, Steve
Ware,
Jerry Ware and Press Beavers. Interment
was
in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Cochran
Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. J.
Willard Nichols, 78, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, March
24,
1996 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Nichols was born in Union County, Georgia, on September 30,
1917, a son
of the late John Nichols and Callie Rector Nichols.
He was a retired farmer and had lived in this

his wife, Anna Mae Walker Nichols, of the home; two daughters, Connie

brother,
Ellard Nichols of Blairsville; grandsons, Ronnie Duncan, of Blairsville
and
Shannon Brackett, of Marietta; granddaughter, Stephanie Hollis, of
Marietta;
and great grandson, Justin Duncan, of Blairsville.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, March 26, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
the
funeral home with Rev. Robert Passmore and Rev. John Strickland
officiating. Special music was presented
by Stephen and Lillie Vee Adams. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ronnie Duncan, Larry
Brackett,
Shannon Brackett, Jeff Hollis, Bobby Dillinger, Winston Cook, Steve
Nichols, and
Edward Nichols. Serving as honorary
escort to the family was Tommy Duncan. Interment
was in Confidence Methodist Church Cemetery.

Garfield
Lowell Garrett, age 84, of Mauney rd., (sic) Blairsville, GA died
Friday, March
29, 1996 in a Union County Georgia Hospital.
He was a native
of Cherokee County, NC and had lived in Blairsville, GA the past 44
years.
He is
survived by four sons: Robert Garrett and James Avery Garrett both of
Gainesville, GA, John David Garrett of Braselton, GA, and Leonard
Marvin
Garrett of Athens, GA; four (sic) daughters: Carolyn Jean DeVaney of
Marietta,
GA, Barbara Doris Smith of Turnerville, GA, Mildred Alene Hughes of
Bowman, GA; two
sisters: Oma
Allen and Betty Farmer both of Murphy, NC; seventeen grandchildren,
nine great
grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 1996, at the Antioch
Baptist
Church in Blairsville, GA. The Rev. Jerry Young afficiated (sic). Burial was in the Antioch Baptist Church
Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
The family
received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 29 and Saturday,
March 30,
1996, at Townson Rose Funeral Home, Murphy, NC where the body remained
until
placed in the church at the service hour.
In lieu of
flowers memorials were made to the Antioch Baptist Church, 3301 Antioch
Church
Rd., Blairsville, GA 30512.

Mrs. Mae
Young Mitchell, 86, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed away Monday,
March 25,
1996. She was the widow of the late Rev.
Clarence C. Mitchell, and a native of Union County.
Surviving
are two sons: James Mitchell, of Buchanan, GA, and Franklin Mitchell,
of Villa
Rica, GA; four daughters: Frankie Mae Phillips, of Union City, GA,
Thelma
Beavers, of Powder Springs, GA, Lula Jane Folsom, of Tampa, FL,
Margaret
Clayton, of Marietta, GA; sister: Etter Lee, of Cleveland, GA; thirteen
grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and five great great
grandchildren

services were held Thursday, March 28, 1996 at 1 p.m. from Liberty
Baptist
Church in Blairsville with Rev. Clayton and Rev. Junior Waddell
officiating. Interment was in the Church
Cemetery.

Mrs.
Claudine
Fitzgerald King, 72, of West Palm Beach, Florida and Blairsville,
Georgia
passed away Monday, March 25, 1996 after an extended illness.
Mrs. King
was born in Vienna, Georgia, she was a resident of
the Palm Beach area for over 70 years, and was a graduate of Palm Beach
High
School, Class of 1941.
Mrs. King
was employed with Southern Dairy from 1941 to 1958, and then with the
Lykes
Brothers Meat Company for 22 years until her retirement in 1984. She was a former member of Gold Coast Baptist
Church, West Palm Beach, and was currently a member of First Baptist
Church of
Blairsville; an Avid (sic) Golfer (sic), Bowler
(sic), and gardener, Mrs. king was a member of the Women’s Golf
Association and the Butternut Golf Club, both in Blairsville.
Mrs. King
is survived by her husband, Bob King, of West Palm Beach and
Blairsville; a
daughter, Sandra King Thompson and a son, Ronald Lynn King and his
wife, Amy,
all of West Palm Beach; Additional (sic) survivors include her
grandson,
Christopher; Aunt (sic), Louise Fitzgerald, of West Palm Beach; Aunt
and Uncle
(sic), Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O’Hern, also of West Palm, and her nephews,
Larry
Fitzgerald.
A Memorial
Service was held Thursday, March 28, 1996 at 4 p.m. from Quattlebaum
Holleman
Burse Funeral Home, of West Palm Beach with Dr. David Cobb, Pastor of
Gold
Coast Baptist church (sic)
officiating. Additional
services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Blairsville at a
later
