Mrs. Bessie Virginia Burke Burnette, age 74, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, march 27, 2006.  Mrs. Burnette was born Friday, December 25, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Floyd Elsworth Burke and the late Bessie Mae Baker Burke.  A member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, she had also been a Sunday School Teacher at Zebulon Baptist Church and had worked with the Nursery at the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Survivors include: husband, Anceberry Burnette of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ronald Kelbaugh of Baltimore; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Carmen Rose of Blairsville; brother, Floyd “Buddy” Burke of Andrews, North Carolina; brother, Clarence “Toot” Burke of Baltimore; brother, Donald Burke of Baltimore; grandson, Scott Kelbaugh, granddaughter, Stacey Todd, and grandson, Mitchell Rose; Seven great grandsons also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 31, 2006 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Music was provided by Sarah Kelley.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Paxton Hamby, J.W. Cantrell, David Myers, Johnny Burnette, Jamie Burnette, Ronnie Burnette and Matthew Smith.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 5-9, Thursday, March 30.

Mr. Jesse L. Arrant, age 65, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Friday, March 31, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.  Mr. Arrant was born Monday, September 30, 1040 in Ohio to the late Earl Arrant and the late Mae Jones Arrant.  Mr. Arrant was a lifelong resident of this area,  and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Carpenter Arrant of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Junior and Angie Arrant of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, James and Tami Arrant of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Tim Stinton of Parish, FL; son, Jeffery Arrant of Blairsville; step daughter, Mary Ruth Wilson of Blue Ridge, GA; step son, Freddie Wright of Blairsville; step daughter, Kathy Jones of Blairsville; special niece, Charlotte Beaver of Morganton, GA; grandson, Will Arrant; grandson, Jared Arrant; granddaughter, Emily Arrant; grandson, Timmy Stinton; grandson, Jacob Stinton; grandson, Israel Stinton; granddaughter, Miranda Arrant; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 2, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Music was provided by Leslie Hughes and Melissa Collins.  Interment followed in Jones Family Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen:; J.B. Reeves, Jeff Harkins, George Roberson, Eddie Beaver, Gerry Rudd, Audie Bradley.  Serving as honorary escort the family was Jerry Young.

mr. timothy alfred jones

 

Mr. Timothy Alfred Jones, age 25, of Pinelog Rd., Blairsville passed away on Monday, March 27, 2006 from injuries received in an automobile accident.  Mr. Jones was born on Dec. 1, 1980 in Union County, the son of Alfred Jones and Maxine Dockery Jones.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County school system.  He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Grover Jones and his grandmother, Gracie Anderson.  Mr. Jones attended the Blairsville Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving Mr. Jones are his Fiancée, Carol Jean Thornley of Blairsville; one son, Cyrus Jones of Blairsville; father, Alfred Jones of Blairsville; mother and step-father, Maxine and George Trogdon of Blairsville; one sister, Amber Trogdon of Blairsville; grandmother, Loreane Henson of Blairsville; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Danny Bohler and Rev. Ivan Rexroth officiating.  Special music was presented by Doris Sourdiffe and Marion Durkee.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Alfred Jones, Blake Jones, Joe Mealor, Matthew Patterson, Eddie Beaver and Derrick Tanner.  Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. marie avis lee marlow

 

Mrs. Marie Avis Lee Marlow age 72 of Nottley Dam Rd., Blairsville passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Marlow was born on June 3, 1933 in Fannin County, the daughter of the late Harley lee and the late Della Barnes Lee.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Fannin County.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Jackson Marlow in 1978 and also by two sons, James Marlow in 2005 and Johnny Marlow in 2004.  Mrs. Marlow was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Marlow are six children, Donnie and Kathy Marlow of Blairsville, Mary Carpenter of Ranger, Brenda Marlow of Ellijay, Barbara and Eugene Lackey of Blairsville, Steve and Melissa Marlow of Mineral Bluff, Ann and Wesley Grizzle of Ranger, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Elsa Anthony of Blairsville, Ina and Clyde Payne of Blairsville, one brother, Lawrence Lee of Blairsville, twenty grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating.  Serving as pallbearers were Wendall Lee, Dustin Lee, Tony Lee, Edgar Lee, Kenny Payne and Jeremy Marlow.  Interment followed in the Hemptown Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Calvin Holbrooks, age 61, of Hoschton, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Joan Glancy Hospital, in Duluth, Georgia.  Mr. Holbrooks was born Wednesday, April 5, 1944 in Union County, Georgia, to the late Claborn “C.A.” Holbrooks and the late Bertha Duckworth Holbrooks.  He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Blairsville.

Survivors include: wife, Joyce Marie Sisum Holbrooks of Hoschton; daughter, Samantha Holbrooks also of Hoschton; sister, Leona Hunter; brother, Quinton Holbrooks; sister, Joyce Teague, all of Blairsville, GA; sister, Phyllis Fuller of Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Eva Nell Smith of Westminister, SC; brother, Ted Holbrooks; sister, Lavada Cheek; sister, Reeda Fay Kelley, all of Blairsville.  Many nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 3 PM from the Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Jones, and Rev. Charles Abernathy officiating.  Music was provided by Bob and Daniel Mitchell, and Lawrence Wilson.  Interment followed in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Joseph Teague, Tony Hunter, Clifford Cook, James Haynes, Larry Moon, and Jason Studstill.  Friends called at the funeral home after 6 p.m. on Friday evening, and the family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Friday, march 31.

mrs. flora mae fann

 

Mrs. Flora Mae Fann age 95 of Tractor Trails, Blairsville, formerly of Marietta passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Fann was born on Sept. 10, 1910 in Canton, GA, the daughter of the late Richard Turk Peardon and the late Georgia Bell Darby Peardon.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Leman Fann, son, Charles Lee Fann, daughter, Sally Mae Fann and by a granddaughter, pat Christopher.  Flora Mae was a great mother, grandmother and friend.  She had a green thumb for gardening and was a good cook.  She loved to travel and enjoyed arts and crafts.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  Mrs. Fann was a member of Cooper Lake Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA.

Surviving Mrs. Fann are three daughter, Florine Painter of Andrews, NC, Jo Brown of Blairsville, Peggy Corder of Carrollton, GA, two brother, Gene Peardon of Dahlonega,,, Junior and Geneva Peardon of Marietta, six grandchildren, Lora Corder, Lolita Rodrigues, Tim Corder, Roy Brown Jr., Charaine Manwell and Lisa Downs.  A number of great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the Cherokee memorial park cemetery in Canton, GA with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating.

mrs. renva s. acree

 

Mrs. Renva S. Acree, age 79 of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Newnan, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2006.  Mrs. Acree was born Tuesday, January 11, 1927 in Gwinnett County, GA to the late Dr. L.E. smith and the late Leone Moon Smith.  Mrs. Acree was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church.  She had also been the Georgia Representative to American Mothers.  She taught the Esther Sunday School Class at McConnell memorial for many years.  Mrs. Acree has been honored by the following: Kellog Grant in 1989, Union County “Lady of the Year” in 1990, North Georgia Tech Adult Education “Fried of the Future” in 1995, Georgia “Mother of the Year” in 1995 and the Lamplighter award in 1996.  She served as a public education teacher for 22 years.  After retirement, she founded the Towns and Union Literacy Coalitions.  She also served as Georgia Baptist Convention Literacy Missions Regional Coordinator.  At her home church of McConnell memorial she organized a tutoring ministry staffed by trained volunteers.  Mrs. Acree served for 10 years on thee WMU of Georgia executive board and in leadership in the Hiawassee Baptist Association.

Survivors include: her husband, Rev. A. Troy Acree of Blairsville; daughter & son-in-law, Wanda & Douglas Greene of Frostburg, TX, son & daughter-in-law, Allen & Elaine Acree of Madison, AL, son & daughter-in-law, Marc & Charis Acree of LaGrange, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Penny A. and Michael Hood of Villa Rica, GA, brother and sister-in-law, les and Nancy Smith of San Angelo, TX, sister-in-law, Fletcher P. Acree of Luthersville, GA, sister-in-law, Sarah Acree of Hiawassee, GA, brother-in-law Marvin Acree and his wife, Retta, of Covington, GA; grandson, Stephen Greene of Manchester, England, grandson, Benjamin Greene of Baltimore, MC, granddaughter, Rachel Reagan of LaGrange, GA, grandson, Patrick Reagan of Villa Rica, GA, granddaughter, Esta Busby of Madison, WI, granddaughter, Marisa Acree of LaGrange, GA and granddaughter, Claire Acree of LaGrange, GA.  Mrs. Acree is also survived by many loved extended family members.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 11 AM from the McConnell memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Rudy Patton and Rev. Bob Alwine officiating.  Music was provided by Church Choir.  Interment followed in Osborne Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Esta Busby, Ricky Busby, Marisa Acree, Claire Acree, Bobbie T. Balanger, Ali Bleckly, Patrick Reagan, John Bleckly and Rachel Reagan.

mr. r. l. “woody” woodham

 

Mr. R. L. “Woody” Woodham, age 82 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006 at his home.  Mr. Woodham was born Monday, October 15, 1923 in Helena, GA to the late William Lee Woodham and the late Claude Andrews Woodham.  His family moved to Ocala, FL in 1934 where he grew up.  Woody worked at the Air Force Base in Talahassee, FL from 1942 until 1945 at which time he moved to Marietta, met and married Polly Trulove on Oct. 22, 1945 and lived until 1980.  Woody worked in Automobile srevice and sales until 1965.  From 19965 until his retirement in 1972, he worked with the U.S. Postal Service.  In 1980, Woody and Polly moved to Blairsville.  Woody loved working in the yard and fishing.  He was always ready to help people and especially enjoyed helping the elderly.  Mr. Woodham was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and one sister.

Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Pauline “Polly” Trulove Woodham of Blairsville, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Jackie Woodham of Douglasville, GA, son, John E. Woodham of Villa Rica, GA, daughter, Marsha Woodham of Blairsville, GA, 5 grandson, 4 granddaughters, 3 great granddaughters and 5 great grandsons also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Rabern and Dr. Fred Lodge officiating.  Music was provided by Jill Turner.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens.  Serving as pallbearers were: Charles Lee, Harold Dyer, Robert Sims, Lewis Jordan, Fred Martin and Joe Kuntzler.  Honorary pallbearers included: John Turner, Rev. Bethel Buchanan and Leon Davenport.

mr. timothy jackson lance

 

Mr. Timothy Jackson Lance age 24 of Berry lane, Blairsville passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following a sudden illness.  Mr. Lance was born on July 14, 1981 in Union County, the son of Ted Lance and Debbie Anderson lance.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School system.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Coy Lance and an aunt, Gayle Lance.  Mr. Lance attended the North Mt. Zion Church of God in Hiawassee.

Surviving Mr. lance are his loving wife, Shawnda Jones Lance of Blairsville, one son, William Jackson Lance of Blairsville, father and mother, Ted and Debbie Lance of Blairsville, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Karen Michelle Lance of jasper, Jennifer and Jeff Stewart of Hayesville, Teresa and Daniel Gibbs of Blairsville, grandparents, Ruby Jewell lance of Blairsville, Brownlow and Velma Anderson of Hiawassee, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the North Mt. Zion Church of God in Hiawassee with the Rev. Raburne Wilson officiating.   Special music was presented by the Raburne Wilson Family and Gary Taylor.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Jeff Stewart, Daniel Gibbs, Alton Garrett, Chris Keys, Kim Jones and Nick Jones.  Interment followed in the Owl Town Church of God cemetery in Blairsville.
