Mr. Clyde
Green
Walden, age 88, of Honaker Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Friday,
April 1,
2011 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Walden was born on Nov. 27, 1922 in Cairo,
GA, the son of the late Asberry Walden and the late Nancy Mixon Walden.
He was a veteran of the US Navy of WWII. Clyde enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband, father and
grandfather. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Asberry and Nancy Walden, one brother, R.A. Walden and one
sister,
Connie Stitz. Mr. Walden was of the
Baptist faith.
Surviving
Mr. Walden
are his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Lassie Helton Walden of
Blairsville,
two sons, Wayne Walden of Blairsville, Gary Walden of Arizona, five
grandchildren, Christie, Matthew, Daniel, Randy and Jolene Walden, many
other
relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service
will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 6 p.m. from the Mountain
View Chapel
with the Rev. Doug Nave officiating. Military
Honors will be presented by the North GA Honor Guard. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests
that donations may be made to the North GA Honor Guard in memory of Mr.
Walden.
The family will meet with friends
following the services.

Mr. John
Logan
Ledford Jr., age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, March
28,
2011 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville. Mr.
Ledford was born on Sunday, June 15, 1930,
in Union County, Georgia, to the late John Logan Ledford Sr. and Vesta
Rogers
Ledford. He served in the United States
Army during the Korean War. John was a
member of Zebulon Baptist church and Young Cane Masonic Lodge #597. Mr. Ledford also lovingly served as an
automotive instructor for 33 years in the Union County Public School
system. He was preceded in death by his
parents, and a
brother, Harry Ledford.
He is
survived by
and lovingly remembered by his wife, Bonnie Warren Ledford of
Blairsville;
daughter and son-in-law, Johanna and Larry Chambers of Blairsville,
daughter,
Freya Ledford Browning of Blairsville, daughter and son-in-law Dr.
Teresa and
John Blakely of Mt. Airy, GA; sisters, Rosella Watkins and Sarah Kelley
of
Blairsville; grandchildren: Olivia Browning, Evan Browning, Vanna
Chambers and
Kendell Blakely; and step-grandsons Tyson and Kevin Chambers. Many other relatives and many friends also
survive.
Services
for Mr.
Ledford were held on Thursday, March 31, 20011, at 2 p.m. from the
Cochran
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.
Special music was presented by Martha
Davenport and Laura Patterson. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: John Blakely, Larry
Chambers,
Stanley Garrett, Mack Mason, Bill Parker, Henry Wilson and Tyson
Chambers.
Interment
followed
in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, with graveside rites presented by
Young Cane
Masonic Lodge, # 597.
The
family received

p.m.

Mr. Earl
M. Bonnette,
age 86, of Jones Rd., Blairsville, Passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011
at his
home following an extended illness. Mr.
Bonnette was born on Feb. 23, 1925 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of the
late Earl
Martin Bonnette and the late Lela Allen Bonnette. Earl
was a veteran of the US Navy of WWII,
serving in the South Pacific for two and a half years. He
graduated from Southern Illinois University
in 1950. He retired from Florida Power
and Light in 1980 and had served as coordinator with Florida Power and
Light
Retirees for over twenty-two years. He
was a private pilot for several years. He
was an avid golf player. Earl had
courted the love of his life, Ramona in a BT 13 airplane. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jean
Bonnette in 2008. Mr. Bonnette was a
member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr.
Bonnette are his loving wife of sixty-three years, Ramona Peek Bonnette
of
Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and John Bruce of
Murphy, one
son, Robert Bonnette of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Ali and Todd
Mercer of
Brasstown, NC, Ami Moody of Marietta, Billy Bruce of Murphy, Eric and
Jillian
Bonnette of Saco, Maine, six grandchildren, Aaron Todd Mercer, Ian
Bonnette,
Bree Mercer, Danielle Moody, Jack Bonnette and Camden Mercer, many
other
relatives and friends also survive.
No
services are
planned at this time. In lieu of flowers

Mrs.
Geneva Howard,
age 96, of Blairsville, GA, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011 in
the Union
County nursing home following an extended illness. Mrs.
Howard was born on December 31, 1914 in
Cobb County, the daughter of the late Samuel Harrison Bruce and the
late Mary
Virginia Beavers Bruce. Geneva was a
loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and
great-great-grandmother and
was a friend to many. She was preceded
in death by her husband Andrew J. Howard in 1995, two brothers, Ed and
Sam
Bruce, two sisters, Mary Kate Emory and Daisy Fortner. Mrs.
Howard was a member of Mary's Memorial
Baptist Church in Marietta.
Surviving
Mrs.
Howard are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert E. And Marilyn
Howard of
Hopewell, Virginia and E.R. "Bo" Howard of Blairsville, two daughters
and sons-in-law, Brenda and Grady Jones of Blairsville, Linda and
Brannen Brown
of Kennesaw, Georgia, sister-in-law, Mildred Bruce of Marietta, eight
grandchildren, Vicki, Sherri, Susan, Lynn, Julie, Donna, Scott and
Missy, 19
great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, many other
relatives and
friends also survive.

for Mrs. Howard were held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 1 p.m. from
the
Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia with Dr. Phillip
Meeks
officiating. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers, Christopher Davenport, Scott Jones, Perry
Scallan, David
Fuller, Casey Jones, Matthew Cochran and Austin Bryson. The
family met with friends at the funeral

Mr. Guy
B. Turner,
age 90, of Allison Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, March 31,
2011 in
the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Turner was born on May 18, 1920 in Lula,
GA, the son of the late John Burton Turner and the late Bessie Turner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army of World War
II. Guy was active as long as possible
in the Union County and Fannin County Singing Conventions. He taught many shaped note music schools in
the Tri-State area. He was inducted into
the Union County Historical Society as a pioneer of gospel music in
this area
in 2009. He was preceded in death by a
son-in-law, Steven Cox. Mr. Turner was a
member and Deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Turner
are his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Clyta Patterson Turner of
Blairsville,
two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Jayne Turner of Waverly TN,
Charles and
Rebecca Turner of Dallas GA, two daughters and one son-in-law, Delga
Cox of
Blairsville, Carolyn and Paul Filer of Blairsville, six grandchildren
Morris
Turner, Daryll Gibbs, Daniel Gibbs, Jennifer Holt, Ashley Diaz, and
Brandon
Turner, 12 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral
services for
Mr. Turner were held on Sunday April 3, 2011 at 3 PM from the Oak Grove
Baptist
Church with the Rev. Grady Ray, Jr. and Rev. Larry Williams
officiating. Mr. Turner lay in state at
the church on
Sunday from 2-3 p.m. Special music was
presented by the Oak Grove Baptist Church choir and other Conventions
Singers.
Serving as pallbearers were Daryll Gibbs, Daniel Gibbs, Brandon Turner,
Roger
Turner, Stanley Turner, and Grady Turner. In
lieu of flowers if you wish memorials may
be made to the North Georgia School of Music or to the Union County
Singing
Convention in memory Mr. Turner. The
family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from
6-9 p.m.

Mr.
William Kenneth
McKellips, age 84, of Copperhead Rd., Blairsville, passed away on
Wednesday,
March 30, 2011, at his home following extended illness. Mr.
McKellips was born on August 10, 1926 in
San Francisco, CA, the son of the late Earl McKellips and the late Ruby
Claudier
McKellips. He served as an aviation
radioman in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 until 1946 in
the
Pacific. William was a Ham Radio
Operator and enjoyed electronics. He
retired from the federal government, Veterans Affairs after many years
of
service. He is preceded in death by the
mother of his children, Bettie Darling McKellips in 1969. He was a loving husband, father and
grandfather. Mr. McKellips was of the
Methodist faith.
Surviving
Mr.
McKellips are his loving wife of 28 years, Judith Anderson McKellips of
Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law Penny and Roy Hall of Brandon
Florida,
two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Judy McKellips Jr. of
Corning, CA,
David and Celia McKellips of Newburgh Indiana, three stepchildren John
Kevin
and Anne Mohan of Chicago IL, Dr. Jacqueline Mohan and Paul Frankson of
Athens
GA, Elizabeth and Michael Lindsey of Blairsville; grandchildren,
Allison,
Lauren, Darren, Jimmy, Elizabeth, Christina, Spencer, Jonathan, Julia,
Danielle
and Michael. Several cousins, many other
relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service
will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 4 p.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Steve Midkiff officiating. Special
music will be presented by Cynthia
Lumme’. Military Honors will be
conducted by the North GA Honor Guard. In
lieu of flowers if you wish Memorials (sic) may be made to the SAFE
House or to
the Mountain Shelter Humane Society in Mr. McKellips memory. Interment will follow on Thursday in the
Georgia National Cemetery. The family
will meet with friends following the services at the funeral home.

Mrs.
Alwayne Vesta
Harkins, age 85, of Robertson Circle, Blairsville, GA, passed away on
Tuesday,
March 29, 2011 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Harkins was born on August 10, 1925 in
Union County, the daughter of the late Willard Nix and the late Lissie
Ryder
Nix. She was a native and lifelong
resident of Union County. Alwayne
enjoyed quilting, canning, making jelly and biscuits and gravy. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother,
great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Sylva
(Sib) Harkins in 2004, a son, Ralph Harkins in 2000, four brothers,
Onley,
Harrison, Eugene and Frank Nix. Mrs.
Harkins was a member of Owltown Church of God.
Surviving
Mrs.
Harkins are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Ronald Dyer of
Blairsville,
Grace and Joseph Whalen of Canton, GA, two sons, Duke Harkins of
Blairsville
and Billy Harkins of Blairsville, one sister, Kathleen Culberson of
Morganton,
twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren, thirty
five
great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral

held on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel
with the
Rev. Kevin Collins officiating. Special
music was presented by John Nix, Merita Miller, Bobby Chapman and Ken
Young. The following gentleman served as
pallbearers,
Mark, Ronnie and Donnie Dyer, James and Josh Harkins and Chris Dyer.
Interment
followed in the Owltown Church of God Cemetery where she will rest next
to her
husband Sib. The family met with friends
