frank j. stiles
Mr. Frank
J. Stiles, age 81 of Page Little Rd., Murphy, and also of Blairsville, passed
away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Union County. Mr. Stiles was born on Jan. 28, 1928 in
Cherokee County, NC, the son of the late Robert Thad Stiles and the late Janie
Mae Carroll Stiles. He was a veteran of
the US Army. Frank drove trucks most of
his life. He had driven a dry cleaning
truck for several years, traveling through several surrounding counties, worked
with United Community Bank as a courier and Union County Government for several
years. When asked of his hobbies, he
just would grin and say, working driving truck.
Frank was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great and
great-great grandfather and was a special friend to many and will be missed by
his family and many friends. He was
preceded in death by two brothers, W.D. Stiles, and Grant Stiles, three
sisters, Ernie Postell, Carolyn Morris and Ruth Ballew. Mr. Stiles was a member of Little Glade
Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Stiles are his loving wife of twenty-four years, JoAnne Thompson Stiles of
Murphy and Blairsville, one daughter, Virginia Ann Lockhart of Morganton, NC,
three sons, Frank Gregory Stiles and Michael Stiles of Morganton, NC, and Tommy
stiles of Albormar, NC, two sisters, Margie ash of Atlanta and Cleo Dockery of
Waynesville, NC, one brother, Robert Junior Stiles of Andrews, niece, Pat Lance
of Blairsville, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, four great-great
grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 8 p.m. from the Mountain View
Chapel with the Rev. Billy Stiles officiating.
Special music was presented by Scott Lance. The family met with friends at the funeral
home on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. prior to the services. Interment and graveside services followed on
Friday at 11 a.m. from the Martins Creek Baptist church Cemetery.

Cordia
Lorena Reece, age 89 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at
Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Reece was born Sunday, December 7, 1919 in Union
County, GA, to the late James and Cordia Miller Duckworth. She was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church
and retired after working for many years in the dietary department of Union
General Hospital. Mrs. Reece was
preceded in death by son, Tommy Reece, daughter, Connie Garrett and husband,
T.J. Reece.
Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Terry &
Courtney Reece of Powder Springs, GA, daughter, June Galloway of Gastonia, NC,
daughter-in-law, Rachael Reece of Blairsville, GA, son-in-Law (sic), Stanley
Garrett of Blairsville, GA, nine grandchildren, eight
great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2009 from the Chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Zollinger officiating. Music was provided by Bill Sheffield. Interment was in Old Choestoe Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Stanley Garrett,
Joel Reece, Steven Reece, Michael Galloway, Matt Reece and Mel Davis.
In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Choestoe Baptist
Church Building Fund.

hattie payne stover hixon
Mrs. Hattie
Payne Stover Hixon age 67 of McEntire Loop, Calhoun, GA, formerly of
Blairsville passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2009 in the Gordon Hospital
following a brief illness. Mrs. was born
on June 8, 1941 in Union County, the daughter of the late Hershel Payne and the
late Callie Self Payne. Hattie loved
animals but most of all she loved her family.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Fred Hixon and William Stover
Jr., son, Mitchell Stover, brothers, Wayne Jessie, Tommy and Jim, sisters,
Radie Raper, Betty Raper and Lorene Taylor.
Mrs. Hixon was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Hixon are three sons and daughters-in-law,
Donnie and Vickie Stover of Cartersville, Bud and Jamie Stover of Calhoun,
Junior and Mary Stover of Ellijay, one daughter-in-law, Sherry Stover of
Atlanta, eleven grandchildren, Teresa, Matthew, Joseph, Amanda, Brandi, Justin,
Michael, Jennifer, Callie, Jeremy and Lisa, seventeen great grandchildren, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Special music was presented by Lewis and
Olene Dyer. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers, Derek Harris, Austin Harris, Joseph, Justin and Michael
Stover, Jeremy Ward, Anthony Quarles and Raymond Holland. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Church
Cemetery. The family met with friends at
the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m.

venson flowers jr.
Mr. Venson
Flowers, Jr., age 81 of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Bartow, FL passed away Tuesday,
March 31, 2009 at Union General Hospital.
Mr. Flowers was born Thursday, June 16, 1927 in Polk County, FL to the
late Venson Flowers, Sr. and the late Leola Smith Flowers. He had retired form Mobil Chemical Company
after 42 years of service. He was a
member and Deacon of Peace Creek Baptist Church, Bartow, FL and a Coast Guard
Veteran during WWII. He was preceded in
death by three sisters.
Survivors include: wife, of 63 years, Helen Flowers of
Blairsville, GA, son, Venson R. Flowers of Lake Wales, FL, son &
daughter-in-law, Rev. Alan and Cheryl Flowers of Young Harris, GA, sisters,
Neta Fortner of Rudy, AR, Geraldine Mooneyham of Temple Terrace, FL and Laverne
McCall of Barton, FL, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several
nieces and nephews.
Memorial
services were held Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 6 PM from Cowboy Church,
Hayesville, NC with Rev. Alan Flowers officiating. Another memorial service will be held Monday,
April 13, 2009 at 10 AM from Peace Creek Baptist Church, Bartow, FL with rev.
Alan Flowers and Dr. Paul Parrish officiating.

william troy norton
William
Troy Norton, age 81 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 at
his home. Mr. Norton was born Wednesday,
March 21, 1928 in Towns County, GA, to the late William Ernest Norton and the
late Mae Hooper Norton. He was a lifelong resident of Towns and Union Counties
and was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.
Troy was preceded in death by brothers, Hubert and Claude Norton and
step-son, Danny Bridges.
Survivors include: wife, Ruby Norton of Blairsville, GA, son
& daughter-in-law, William Scott and Gloria Norton of Blairsville, GA,
daughter & son-in-law, Sherry and Donald Knowles of Cottonwood, AL,
daughter & son-in-law, Susan and Jason Kirkland of Dothan, AK, step-son,
Ricky Bridges of Blairsville, GA, daughter-in-law, Pauline Bridges of
Blairsvlle, GA, sister & brother-in-law, Maona and Junior Turpin of Young
Harris, GA, sister & brother-in-law, Gaynell and Lucius Barrett of Young
Harris, GA, brother & sister-in-law, Junior and Peggy Norton of Dacula, GA,
grandchildren, Jessie Smith, Kerri Quattlebaum, Misty Mercer, Rachel Mercer,
Amanda Brasseal, Joseph Miller, Cody Norton and Lucas Norton. 9 great grandchildren also survive.

services were held Monday, April 6, 2009 at 2 PM from the Old Brasstown Baptist
Church with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Billy Stiles officiating. Interment was in Old Brasstown Baptist
Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were:
Terry Barrett, Larry Lee, Brandon Lee, Joe Norton, Tamber Thompson and James
Jerkins.
