infant twins erick gregory and scott kent loyd

 

Infants Erick Gregory Loyd and Scott Kent Loyd, sons of U.S. Army Sergeant Gregory Scott Loyd and U.S. Army Specialist Karla Martinez Loyd of Baumholder, Germany, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2003 in Germany.

Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Scott Loyd, (Mr. Loyd is formerly of Blairsville), paternal grandmother, Evelyn Loyd of Blairsville; maternal grandmother, Mari Granados of Los Angeles, CA; maternal great grandmothers, Elvira Rodriquez of El Salvador and Lidia Duricos of West Covina, CA; many relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 31, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. from the Union memory Gardens Cemetery, with Rev. Jarvis Bennett officiating.

mr. robert clarence french jr.

 

Mr. Robert Clarence French Jr. age 61 of Faith Acres Road, Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at his home.

Mr. French was born on July 26, 1941 in Danberry, CT, the son of the late Robert Clarence French Sr. and the late Doris Durkin French.  Mr. French had retired from Florida Power and Light and had made his home in Union County for the past twenty-five years.  He was a former member of the Lions Club and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Blairsville.

Surviving Mr. French are his loving wife of thirty nine years, Mary McNamara French of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Clarence III and Shelby French of Dahlonega; one daughter, Nancy Doris Copeland of Blairsville; three grandchildren, Cody and Kyle French of Dahlonega, Katie Copeland of Blairsville.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Union County Lions Club in Mr. French’s memory.

mrs. ruth thomas nix

 

Mrs. Ruth Thomas Nix, age 76, a native and lifelong resident of Union County, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2003.

Mrs. Nix was born in Union County, Georgia, on Sunday, November 28, 1926, a daughter of the late Jessie James Thomas and Maggie Evelyne Stephens Thomas.  She was a homemaker and a member of Zebulon Baptist Church.  Mrs. Nix loved to embroider and quilt, and enjoyed flower gardening.  Mrs. Nix had been preceded in death by her husband, James Nix; her parents’ and a granddaughter, Ann Thompson.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law: Carol and Homer Arrowood; Linda and Ernest Thompson; Evelyn and Junior Russell; and son and daughter-in-law, James and Vickie Nix, all of Blairsville; two sisters: Emma Clayton and Georgia Griggs, both of Blairsville; Nine grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 4 step-great grandchildren also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at 2:00 pm, from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Gary Rogers officiating.  Special music was presented by Kim Thompson.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Derrick Arrowood, Kenneth Arrowood, Wayne Thompson, Kevin Russell, Kenny Prince, and Trance King.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.

mr. david ellis carter

 

Mr. David Ellis Carter, age 75, of Opossum Road, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Carter was born April 17, 1927 in lake Park, GA, the son of the late Dorsey Lee Carter and Evelyn Willis Carter King.  He served in the Signal Corps of the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was a member of the Coosa United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mr. Carter are his loving wife of 51 years, Jean Mullis Carter of Blairsville; two sons, David Ellis Carter, Jr. and James Michael Carter, both of Ft. Pierce, FL; two daughters, Mary Beth Brackett of Blairsville and Janet Marie Moyle of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; one brother, Albert Carter of Valdosta, GA and one sister, Lucille Anchors of Bainbridge, GA; eight grandchildren also survive.

The family received friends at the Cochran Funeral Home on April 4 from 6:00 until 9L00 p.m.  Funeral services were conducted at the Coosa United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 5, 2003 at 2:00 p.m.  Officiating were Jon Herrin, pastor of the Coosa Church and Earl Bishop, a former Coosa Church pastor.  Music was provided by Idalu Bishop and Earl Bishop.  Pallbearers included Jim Bishop, Douglas Brackett, Joe Smith, Jim Swindler, Bob Moore and Carlton Sparks.  Burial was in the Coosa United Methodist Church cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Coosa United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2225, Blairsville, GA 30514.

mr. richard paul “bud” mchenry

 

Mr. Richard Paul (better known as Bud) McHenry, age 74, of Choestoe Valley Circle, Blairsville passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2003 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. McHenry was born on November 14, 1928 in Neffs, Ohio, the son of the late Paul McHenry and the late Eunice Weekly McHenry.  He was a retired operating engineer.  Mr. McHenry was a member of the Old Liberty Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. McHenry are his loving wife of thirty eight years, Cathy Conrad McHenry of Blairsville; two daughters and son-in-laws, Kitty and Tony Sipes of Brighton, CO, Candice and Jeff Byron of Irvine, CA; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard Paul McHenry Jr. of Sacramento, CA, Michael and Nicole McHenry of Irvine, CA; two grandchildren, Michael Frazier of Brighton, CO, Alexandra McHenry of Irvine, CA; two sisters and brother-in-law, Jane and Pete Easter of Blairsville, Charline Richardson of Smithville, MO; brother-in-law, Thomas White of Anacoco, LA, many other relatives, friends and neighbors also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at 11 a.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harley Hunter and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Special music was presented by the Old Liberty Church Choir.  Interment will follow in the Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
