Mrs.
Delphna Gibson age 83, of Ray Lewis Rd.,
Blairsville formerly of Lakeland, FL passed away on Saturday, April 5,
2008 in
the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Gibson was born on March 31, 1925 in
Lawty, FL, the daughter of the late Carl L.
Hilliard
and the late Wealtha Byrd Hilliard. Delphna loved working in the yard
and
especially growing flowers. She enjoyed
going to garage sales. She was a loving
mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by
her
family and all those who knew her. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Gibson in 1993 and by her
first
husband, Earl Starling in 1990; a son, Jerry Wayne Starling in 2002 and
by nine
brothers and sisters. Mrs. Gibson was a
member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Lakeland, FL.
Surviving
Mrs. Gibson are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda
and George Priebe of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and
Kathy
Starling of Lakeland, FL, one sister and brother-in-law, Margie and
Mark Mott
of Cooksville, TN; eight grandchildren, Chris Priebe, Cindy James,
Justin,
Brittany and Brandon Starling, Regina Wiltse, Tina and Selina Starling;
six
great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday April 8, 2008 at 11:00
a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Luther Thomas
officiating.
Special music will be presented by Rev. Luther Thomas officiating. Special music was presented by Rev. Luther
Thomas. The following gentleman will
serve as pallbearers, Justin Starling, Brad James, Chris Priebe, George
Starling, Eric Wiltse and Butch Dockery. Interment followed in the Zion
Hill
Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will
met with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8pm.

Mr.
Donald Lee Knies, age 78, Clear Creek Rd.,
Blairsville passed away on Sunday March 30, 2008 at his home following
an
extended illness. Mr. Knies was born on
Oct.7, 1929 in Truckee, CA, the son of the late Daniel Michael Knies
and the
late Hazel May Passinetti Knies. He was
a veteran of the U.S. Air Force of the Korean War. He was Past Master
of the
Masonic Lodge F&AM. His hobbies
included wood crafting and building. Mr.
Knies was a member of Shepherd Chapel Church.
Surviving
Mr. Knies are his loving wife of fifty-five years,
Dorothy Bell Knies of Blairsville; two sons, Don A. Knies of Ogden,
Utah, Bart
A. Knies of Riceville, TN; three sisters and brothers-in-laws, Margie
and Steve
LaFranchi of Seattle, WA, Betty and Dave Mathison of Seattle, Delores
and Bill
Simpson of New Plymouth, ID; four grandchildren, Greg, Bryan, Brandon
and Chad
Knies, two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Aiden Knies; many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
No
services are planned at this time. In lieu
of flowers if you wish, the family
requests that memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Murphy, NC
in
memory of Mr. Knies.

Mrs.
Ruth Short VanEtten, age 87, of
Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, March 31, 2008. Mrs.
VanEtten was born in mercer County, WV on
Wednesday, January 19, 1921, a daughter of the late Charles Ross Short
and
Pearl Belcher Short. Mrs. VanEtten was
employed by a large department store most of her life.
Mrs. VanEtten moved to Blairsville in 1984
from Winder, GA. She was a member of
First United Methodist Church of Union County. She
was preceded in death by her husband,
Raymond Brink VanEtten, III, and a son, David B. VanEtten.
Blairsville
family members include Randy Haines,
Charles Lawson, Eleanor Haines, Don Haines; several nieces and nephews
also
survive.
Memorial
services were held Saturday, April 5,
2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Blairsville Chapel with
Rev.
Earl Bishop officiating. If you wish,
memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society's Mountain
Shelter.

Mr.
James Dempsey "Jim" Bell, Jr., age
87, of Blairsville, GA passed away Friday, April 4, 2008 at his
residence. Mr. Bell was born Friday,
December 10, 1920 in
Crittenden County, AR, to the late James Dempsey Bell and the late
Kathryn
Swindler Bell. He attended First Baptist
Church of Blairsville and was an Air Force veteran during WWII with the
448th
Bomb Group and recalled during the Korean Conflict. He
was preceded in death by his parents, and a
brother, Robert Bell.
Survivors
include: wife, Patricia L. Bell of
Blairsville; son & daughter-in-law, Richard Larrick and Brenda Bell
of
Stuart, FL; daughter & son-in-law, Patricia Larrick Allen and Ricky
Allen
of Blairsville; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Bell Goodman and
George
Goodman of Orange City, FL; granddaughter and husband, Casey Hope
Williams and
Michael Williams; granddaughters, Rebecca Cristen Johnson and Dana Joy
Alexandra Johnson. Many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, April 7, 2008
at 2:00 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Blairsville Chapel with the
Rev.
Fred Lodge and Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Music
was provided by Minister R. Terry
Hooper. Interment followed in Union
Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors conducted by The North
Georgia
Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers were
the following gentlemen: Ricky Allen, Dick Gray, Bob Laffoon, Marcus
Tuschel,
Dick Howington and Louis Linker. Honorary pallbearers included the
following
gentlemen: Jim Stewart and Rick Siefken. The
family received
friends at the funeral home
from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, April 6. Flowers
will be accepted; however if you wish, the family suggests that
donations may
be made to Regency Hospice, P.O. box 494, Hiawassee, GA 30546.

Mr.
Ian C. J. Kaser age 24 of Lake Cove Lodge
Rd., Blairsville passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2008 in Union
General
Hospital after his life was tragically taken.
Mr. Kaser was born on April 25, 1983 in Columbus, GA, the son of
Herman
Kaser and Eveningstar Ray Kaser. Mr.
Kaser was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving
Mr. Kaser are one daughter, Aliena Carter of
Blairsville; fiancée, Amber Carter of Blairsville; mother and
step-father,
Eveningstar and James Terry of Blairsville; father, Herman Kaser of
Rome, GA;
two brothers and one sister-in-law, Mikael and Felicia Kaser of
Blairsville,
Trevor Kaser of Rome, GA; grandparents, Charles and Marion Brown of
Tuscon, AZ;
several aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and friends
also
survive.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, mach 31, 2008 from the
funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.
Special music was a selection of Ian’s
favorite hymns. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family
requests that
donations may be made to a fund set up at United Community Bank for
Ian’s
daughter, Aliena Carter. The family met with friends at the funeral
home on
Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m.
