mr. elmo wilburn jones

 

Mr. Elmo Wilburn Jones, age 77, of Jewell Mason Road, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 in the Atlanta Medical Center following an extended illness.  Mr. Jones was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois (Christy) Jones in 1969 and by his Fannie Bell (Carson) Jones in 1990, and by a daughter, Jeanette Elaine Jones in 1980.

Surviving Mr. Jones are one son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Deborah Jones of Chesapeck, VA; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Julin Mason of Dalton; step daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ed Rich of Acworth; one sister, Reva Mae Patterson of Blairsville; six grandchildren, Casandra and Justin Mason, Morgan and Samantha Jones, Michael and Scott Rich, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 5, 2002 at 2 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Pickelsimer officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Gerald Patterson, Mike Rich, Scott Rich, Derek Moss, Justin Allen Mason and Robert Allen.  Interment followed in the Duncan Cemetery.

Mrs. maljet e. stratton

 

Mrs. Maljet E. Stratton, widow of Barney Stratton, of Lakeside Village, Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 after a long illness.

She is survived by daughters, Dian Garrett of Woodstock, Georgia, and Kim Winston of Muskogee, OK and five grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.

mr. frank b. morgan

 

Mr. Frank B. Morgan, age 79, of Blairsville, GA passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2002 in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Morgan was born September 29, 1922, in Union County, a son of the late John and Effie (Dyer) Morgan.  He was of the Baptist faith.  Mr. Morgan was a retired farmer and custodian of Union County Elementary School.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Hensley) Morgan of the home; brother, Doyle Morgan of Blairsville, GA; nephews, Danny Morgan and Waymond Morgan both of Blairsville, GA; niece, Elizabeth Dyer of Blairsville, GA; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 5, 2002 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. R.L. Martin officiating.  Music was provided by Joe and Julie Gray.  Pallbearers were Tom Gay, Roy Johnson, Waymond Morgan, Roy Phillips, Allen Conley and Dwayne Brackett.  Interment was in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

ms. sandra gayle jones murphy

 

Ms. Sandra Gayle Jones Murphy, age 56, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2002, in Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee.

Sandra was born in Webster County, Kentucky, on Friday, January 4, 1946.  She lived all of her life in Blairsville and was a clerk at a local video store.  Ms. Murphy was a member of Young Cane Church of God.

Surviving are her parents, Arnold and Billie Jones, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Ranny and Claudia Jones, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sheila Jones, also of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at 3 p.m., from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Randolph Jones, Rev. Terrell Jones, and Rev. William Sisum officiating.  Opal Murphy gave the eulogy for the service.  Special music was presented by Brit Jones and Leigha Jones.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Shannon and Travis Jones, Chad Sisum, Scott Sisum, Darren Jones, and Howard Brys.  Interment was in Liberty Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.

mrs. laura ann cavender bowers

 

Mrs. Laura Ann Cavender Bowers, age 93, of Mulkey Gap Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2002, in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Bowers was born on Oct. 4, 1908 in Fannin Co., the daughter of the late George Cavender and the late Liza Pickelsimer Cavender.  She was a lifelong resident of Kanapolis, NC and Union Counties.  She was preceded in death by a son, George Bowers in 1999, a daughter, Sarah Bowers, a sister, Della Corn and by her husband, Tom Bowers in 1996.  Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Blairsville Church of God.

Surviving Mrs. Bowers are: one son, Frank Bowers of Kanapolis; daughters: Ruth Sauls of Carrolton, GA, Dorothy Collinson of Concord, NC, and Katherine Spry of Kanapolis; daughter-in-law, Eva Bowers of Blairsville; several nieces, nephews; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bowers were held on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at 2 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Cline and Rev. Mike Morrison officiating.  Special music was presented by Pam Corn.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Nelson Pickelsimer, Bill Corn, Andy Anderson, Scott Corn, Curtis Corn and David Corn.  Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
