Mr. Fred
Lebrone Fortenberry, 61, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, March 30, 1996 at
his home.
Mr.
Fortenberry was born in Union County, Georgia, on March
4, 1935, a son of the late Thomas Harrison Fortenberry and Fena Milsap
Fortenberry. He was a U.S. Air Force
Veteran. Mr. Fortenberry had lived most
of his life in Union County, and was a member of the Owltown Church of
God.
Surviving
are his wife, Martha Seabolt Fortenberry, of the home; five sons, Steve
Fortenberry of Genesia, Illinois, Daniel Marolf of Alto, GA, Russell,
Roy and
John Fortenberry, all of Blairsville; two daughters, Freda Cantrell of
Alto,
GA, and Victoria Thomas of Blairsville; six step children, Jerry Payne,
Glen
Payne, Doris Grizzle, and Janie Dyer, all of Blairsville, Cathy Payne
of Rossville
and Rachel Ramey of Morganton; two sisters, Virginia Dyer and Verdie
Mae Davis,
both of Michigan; two brothers, Frank Fortenberry of Illnois (sic) and
Charlie
Fortenberry of Blairsville; 11 grandchildren and nine step
grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, April 1, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home with Rev. Willis Garrett officiating.
Special music was presented by
the Nottley River
Boys. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Pete Kirksey, T.J. Plott, Joe Sosebee, Robert Sosebee,
Leonard
Sosebee, and Johnny Burnett. Interment was
in Coosa Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. James
Randall Nicholson, age 82, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday,
April 3, 1996, after a period of declining health.
He was a life long resident of Union
county. Born the son
of Robert Lee and Mary Sullivan Nicholson. Mr.
Nicholson had worked for the Tennessee
Copper Company as a Smelter.
Surviving are his wife: Maudell
Nicholson of the home; his son, James
Robert Nicholson of Blairsville, Georgia; two sisters, Willie Mauney of
Blairsville, Georgia, Beulah Deitz of Young Harris, Georgia, and a
number of
nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, April 4,
1996 at 2
p.m. with the Rev. Kenny Beavers officiating.
Interment was in Union Memory Gardens.
Music was provided by Amy Hudson.
Pallbearers were Wayne Hedden, J.E. Hudson, Claxton Fortenberry,

Lance, Bud Davis, and Ricky Davis.
Honorary pallbearers were, Larry Hudson, Blueford (sic) Dyer,

Mr. James
Garlin Thomasson, age 89, of Blairsville, passed away Thursday, April
4, 1996
in Union County Nursing Home. Mr.
Thomasson was born in Cherokee County, North Carolina a son of the late
Charles
Wesley and Sophronia Griffith Thomasson.
He had lived in this area since 1935, coming here from Murphy,
NC. He was a retired farmer and a member
of the
Upper Peachtree Baptist Church in Murphy, NC.
Survivors
include his wife, Mrs. Flora Stephens Thomasson, of the home; son and
daughter-in-law James Homer and Marilyn Thomasson, of Marietta,
Georgia;
daughter and son-in-law Bennie Jo and Ed Jenkins, of Jasper, Georgia;
brothers
Wesley Thomasson, of Kings Mountain, NC, Hill Thomasson, of Murphy;
sisters,
Irene Lundsford and Zelda Thomasson, both of Murphy, NC and Fan

Mr.
Arnold
Ray Wiggins, age 70, of Blairsville passed away Wednesday, April 3,
1996 at his
home. Mr.
Wiggins was born in Swain County, North
Carolina a son of Will and Marie Cooper Wiggins. He
had lived in this area since 1970, coming
here from McCaysville, Georgia. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. navy and served during World
War II
and the Korean War. Mr. Wiggins was a
member of Mr. (sic) Carmel Baptist Church in Bryson City, NC, a member
of
Mineral Bluff Masonic Lodge and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Wiggins, in 1977,
and a
brother, Carroll Wiggins in 1985.
Survivors
include his wife Mrs. Jean Duncan Wiggins, of the home; daughter, Donna
Dillard, of the home; granddaughter, Melanie Dillard and grandson,
Jeremy
Dillard both of Woodstock, GA; father, Will Wiggins, of Bryson City,
NC;
brothers, R.L. Wiggins and Will Wiggins, Jr., both of Belmont, NC;
sister, Mae
Clemmer of Belmont, NC and Velva Phillips of Bryson City, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, April 6, 1996 at 2 p.m. from Mt. Carmel
Baptist
Church with Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating.
Music was provided by Martha Patterson.
Interment was in Blankenship Cemetery in Buckner Branch with

County Veterans providing Military Honors and Bryson City Masonic

Leona
Anderson Thomas Douglas, 70, died Wednesday, April 3, 1996 at West
Paces
Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
She was a
native of Madison County, Florida, then
moved to Tampa, Florida. She then moved to
Blairsville, Georgia and
has resided there since 1985. She was a
member of Faith Baptist Church in Blairsville, Georgia.
She was also a member of American Legion
Auxiliary in Land of Lakes, Florida. She
was a homemaker.
She is
survived by her husband, Ray Douglas of Blairsville, Georgia; 1 son,
Emory
Thomas of Tampa, Florida; 2 daughters, Barbara Thomas Bell of
Hayesville, NC,
and Patricia Thomas Youngblood of Tampa, FL; 1 brother, Leslie Anderson
of
Tallahassee, FL; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, April 6, 1996 at 2 p.m. in Beggs Chapel,
Madison,
FL. Interment will follow in the Midway
Cemetery, Madison County, FL.

Mrs.
Effie
Foster, age 86, of Blairsville passed away Wednesday April 3, 1996 in Union General
Hospital. Mrs. Foster was born in Union
County, a daughter of the late John Adam and Callie Rector Nichols. She was a member of New Union Baptist
Church. Mrs. Foster was preceded in
death by her husband, Floyd Foster in 1987.
Survivors
include daughters and sons-in-aw, Pat and Bill Abernathy and Beverly
and Bobby
Jackson all of Blairsville, Georgia; sisters, Bonnie Owenby of
Blairsville,
Georgia and Flossie Wise of Marietta, Georgia; brother and
sister-in-law Rev.
Ellard and Anna Lou Nichols and sister-in-law Anna Mae Nichols all of
Blairsville, Georgia; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and
several
nieces and nephews also survive.

services were held Friday, April 5, 1996 at 2 p.m. from New Union
Baptist
Church with Rev. Harrison Bradley and Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Eulogy was given by granddaughter Lydia
Jackson Sartain. Music was provided by
the New Union Baptist Church Choir. Pallbearers
were Phillip Abernathy, Randy Abernathy, Mike Mashburn, Phillip
Sartain, Edward
Nichols, Steve Nichols, San Nichols and Johnny Foster.

Milo Brown, age 89, of Young Harris, Georgia, died Saturday, April 6,
1996, in
a Towns County, Georgia nursing home.
He
was a native
of Union County,
Georgia. He was a retired farmer and a
member of the Gum Log Baptist Church in Young Harris, Georgia. He was a son of the late Milton and Lillie
Scroggins Brown and was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Brown
and Glen
Brown; two sisters, Nellie Brown Gibson and Nova Brown Stephens.
He is
survived by his wife Ruby Pauline Phillips Brown of Chatuge Regional
Nursing
Home, Hiawassee, Georgia, a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Marlene
Brown of
Morrow, Georgia; a granddaughter, Paula Ackermann of Orlando, Florida;
and a
grandson, Alan Brown of Atlanta, Georgia.
Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, 1996, at the Townson
Rose
Chapel, Hayesville, NC. The Rev. Willis
Garrett will officiate. Burial will bee
in the Ebenezer Baptist church cemetery, Union county, Georgia. Pallbearers will be Bryan Souther, Suell
Souther, Vernon Barnes, Brad Barnes, Harold Gibson, and Ralph Brown.
