Mrs.
Wilma Davenport, age 95, of Davenport RD, Blairsville passed away
Friday, April
6, 2012 at Union General Hospital following an extended illness. She
was a
resident of Union County Nursing Home. Mrs. Davenport was born
September 30,
1916 in Union County to the late Carl and Minnie Ledford Hedden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hasson
D.
Davenport, daughter, Doris Davenport Smith, son, Carl Hasson
Davenport, brothers, Ray Hedden, Winfred Hedden, Don Hedden,
Jewell Hedden and Earl Hedden, sisters, Glyne
Coker, Willie Young and Blanche Rakestraw,
grandsons, Tommy Hedden and Marty Poteete.
Mrs. Davenport was the oldest living member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
on St.
Hwy. 325.
Survivors
include daughters and sons-in-law, Nora (Davenport)
and Bobby Saxon of Cumming, GA, Barbara (Davenport) and Billy Poteete of Blairsville, GA and Patsy (Davenport)
and Lee M.
Hedden of Kennesaw, GA, sister, Betty and
Robert
Bridges of Blairsville, GA, twelve grandchildren, eleven great
grandchildren
and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, April 8, 2012 at 2 p.m. From
the
Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Patterson officiating.
Music
was presented by Lora Patterson and the Hemphill Girls. Grandsons
served as pallbearers.
Interment was in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers
make
memorials to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. The family received
friends
at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.

Mr.
Raymond Eugene Rockenbaugh, age 69, of
Popular DR,
Blairsville passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012 in Union General
Hospital
following a brief illness. Mr. Rockenbaugh
was born
July 15, 1942 in Albuquerque, NM to the late James E. and Florence
Phelps Rockenbaugh. He was a U.S. Army
Veteran. Raymond was a
loving father, brother and grandfather.
Survivors
include son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Stephanie Rockenbaugh
of Blairsville, daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Keith Lockwood of
Blairsville,
sisters, Florence and Harvey McReynolds of Mineola, TX and Edna and
Millard Brolin of Orangeville, CA,
brother, Lawrence and Linda Rockenbaugh of
Elderado, CA,
grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, Ryan and Emily.
Funeral
services were held Monday, April 8, 2012 at 6 p.m. from Mountain View
Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. George Cline officiating. Music was provided by
Stanley
and Debbie Stepp. Military honors were
given by the
North Georgia Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers make memorial donations
to Relay
for Life or the American Cancer Society in Mr. Rockenbaugh’s
memory. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday
evening
from 4 until 6 p.m.

Mr.
Carl Wayne Vanzura, of Blairsville, GA,
passed away
at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA on April 3, 2012. He was born
on the
8th of May, 1942 in Compton, CA. He is preceded in death by his, dad,
Edward
John Vanzura, mother, Florence Maxine
Bridges Gregory
Vanzura.
He
is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia Anne Smith Vanzura, two children, Jon Jeffrey (wife
Jessica, expecting
grandchild #6), of Blairsville, GA and Daniel Wayne (wife Kristen), of
Longwood, FL, 5 grandchildren, Nicole, Justin, Kai, Luke, and Grayson,
and a
sister, Wilma Jean Gregory Vanzura Donley
(husband
Ralph), of Lakeland, FL
Carl
attended All Souls Parochial School in Sanford, FL, and graduated from
Seminole
High School, Class of 61, in Sanford, FL. Carl was an avid sports fan
who
covered hundreds of motor sport events ranging from local and regional
dirt and
asphalt tracks to NHRA Drag Racing and NASCAR events. Carl was also a
little
league baseball coach for 16+ years and had the opportunity to coach a
team of
13 and 14 years olds in the Pony League
World Series
in Lafayette Louisiana in the early 80's. Carl retired as the editor of
the
Towns County Herald in Hiawassee, GA after 14 years. Carl worked at the
Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, NC in
Public
Relations for more than 10 years. Before relocating to Blairsville GA
in 1991,
Carl was a sports reporter for the Sanford Herald in Sanford FL. He
also worked
for Hostess and Wonder Bread for 14 years. Carl was one of a group of
young
racers who pioneered the Seminole Timing Association at the Osceola
Drag Strip
in the early 60's. Carl was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi
Catholic
Church in Blairsville GA, a dedicated husband, loving father and loyal
friend
to many, he will be missed.
Services
will be held 3 p.m. Saturday the 14th of April, 2012 at St. Francis of
Assisi
Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA.
