mrs. jo evelyn davis

 

Mrs. Jo Evelyn Davis, age 74, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at her home.  Mrs. Davis was born Sunday, September 20, 1931 in Union County, Georgia, to the late John Everett and Nora Mae (Nicholson) Pierce.  She was a member of harmony Grove Baptist Church and attended Trackrock Baptist Church.  Jo worked at Foodland Grocery Store for 31 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford David.

Survivors include: daughter, Linda D. Chambers of Blairsville; son & daughter-in-law, Johnny and Janice Davis of Blairsville; brother, Edward Pierce of Tunnel Hill, Georgia; grandson, Tyson Chambers; grandson, Kevin Chambers; granddaughter, Megan S. Davis; grandson, jarred Davis; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Beaver; and step-granddaughter, Kimberly Winn.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the rev. Stacy Dyer and Rev. Denny Moss officiating.  Music was provided by the Trackrock Quartet.  Interment followed in Union memory Gardens.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Tyson Chambers, Kevin Chambers, Dean Everett, Greg Flater, Jerry Thornton, and Wayne Abercrombie.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Thursday, April 6.  If you wish memorial contributions may be made to Regency Hospice, P.O. mr. michael gene rush

 

Mr. Michael Gene Rush, age 47 of Dean Gap Rd., Blairsville, formerly of West Palm BEACH, FL passed away suddenly on Friday, April 7, 2006, while riding his jet ski.  Mr. Rush was born on Sept. 15, 1958 in West Palm Beach, FL, the son of the late Clifford Joseph Rush and the late Mildred Smith Rush.  He enjoyed all sports and hunting.  He was known for his creative use of the English language.  Michael was always friendly and helpful to his friends and neighbors and even strangers in need.  He had been a Georgia resident for the past five years.  He was a member of the International Asbestos Workers Union Local 60 in Miami, FL for twenty-five years.  Michael was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Michael are his loving wife of thirteen years, Colleen Kohler Rush of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steven Flowers of Marble, NC, Robert and Linda Flowers of Orlando, FL, one daughter, Dana Graham of Knoxville, TN, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Pam Rush of West Palm Beach, David and Cindy Rush of Jupiter, FL; three grandchildren, Kaley, Robert and Anthony Flowers, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Minister Terry Stuart officiating.  Michaelís favorite hymns will be presented for the service.  In Lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc. in Michaelís memory.

mr. eugene franklin rogers

 

Mr. Eugene Franklin Rogers, age 70 of Chapman Ford Rd., Blairsville passed away on Friday, April 7, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Rogers was born on Sept. 18, 1935 in Union County, the son of the late Grady Rogers and the late Violet Reece Rogers.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was a veteran of the US Airforce.  He owned and operated Genes Appliance Repair Service for several years.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Rogers in 2006 and Wayne Rogers; in 1987.  Mr. Rogers was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving Mr. Rogers are his loving wife of forty-two years, Winona Barbara Rogers of Blairsville, seven children, Verna and Ricky Vincent of Forest Park, GA, William and Glenda Peck of Douglasville, GA, Michael Rogers of Seattle, WA, Pat and Laura Hacker of Woodstock, Janet and Jeff King of Blairsville, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Thelma Self of Columbia, SC, Willie and Harry Colwell of Blairsville, Betty and Charles Hutson of Ball Ground, GA; six grandchildren, Nicky, Christy, Krystal, Tracey, Jason and Jonathon, four great grandchildren, Brandy, Brittney, Courtney and Clint Jr., many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 9, 2006 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William Sisum and Mrs. Betty Hutson officiating.  Special music was presented by Becky Rogers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Tim Colwell, Joey Colwell, Kenny Hutson, Johnny Cook, Jackie Cook and Wade Howell.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery.

mrs. ruby jean hood lloyd

 

Mrs. Ruby Jean Hood Lloyd, age 90 of Forest Drive, Blairsville, formerly of Nashville, GA passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Lloyd was born on June 5, 1915 in Ellijay, GA, the daughter of the late William jess Hood and the late Carrie Kell Hood.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin James Lloyd St. in 1993 and by one sister, Katherine Hood Braren, and three brothers, James Hood, William Hood and Paul Collins.  Mrs. Lloyd was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Lloyd are two daughters and one-son-in law, Joyce Lloyd of Blairsville, Mary Louise and Dr. Charles King of Cedar Bluff, VA, one son and daughter-in-law, Austin James Jr. and Faye Lloyd of Nichols, GA, one brother, W. D. Collins of Osteen, FL, two sisters, Louise Lightfoot of Orlando, FL, Bunzie Harmon of Lakeland, FL, nine grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. George Cline officiating.  Special music was presented by the Jubilee Choir.  Interment and graveside services followed on Thursday April 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Fender Cemetery in Lakeland, GA.

dr. richard a. (tony) muir

 

Dr. Richard A. (Tony) Muir passed away at home on April 3, 2006.  Dr. Muir was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, on May 14, 1940, where he resided for most of his life.  He achieved his life-long dream of living in the mountains when he relocated to Blairsville, Georgia in 1993.  Tony was a man of many talents and interests; antique collecting, building antique reproduction furniture and wood-carving, being among his favorites.  He taught several courses in decoy carving at John C. Campbell Folk School.  He finally found his true purpose and passion as an herbalist and naturopathic healer and in 1999 he opened Mountain View Holistic Healing Center in Blairsville.  He enjoyed teaching people to care for themselves using natural means whenever possible.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. John and Joyce Muir; nephew, Mark, all of Blairsville; nephew and wife, Todd and Cecelia Muir of Lakewood, Colorado; niece and husband, Wendy and Jonathon Dennis of Ventura, California;  He also leaves several god-children and many friends.

Memorial services are scheduled for Sunday, may 7, 2006, at 2 p.m., at North Georgia Technical College in Blairsville. 

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Regency Hospice, Mountain Valley Humane Society, or S.A.F.E.

mrs. mertie lou reid dyer

 

Mrs. Mertie Lou Reid Dyer, age 84, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2006 in Union County Nursing Home.  Mrs. Dyer was born Monday, April 25, 1921 in Union County, Georgia, to the late Edward and Lillie Mae (Spiva) Reid.  She was a member of Union Baptist Church.  Mrs. Dyer was preceded in death by daughter, Gladys Patton, and a sister, Juanita Reid.

Survivors include her husband, Woodrow Wilson Dyer; daughter, Lorene Odom, and daughter, Vivian hidden, all of Blairsville; grandchildren, Wayne Odom, Cerelda deHeus, Chris Odom, Avis Hedden, and Jackie Yost; great grandchildren, Jonathan & Timothy Yost, Amy7 & Melissa Odom, Jessie & Chelsea Odom, and Kimberly deHeus.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 9, 2006 at 4 p.m., from the Union Baptist Church with Rev. Benn6y Nix and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Music was provided by Albert and Martha Davenport.  Interment followed in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:  Wayne Abercrombie, Kenny Dyer, Calvin Dyer, Brandon Moore, Jerry Reid, and Charles Spiva.
