Mr. Carl
Shields, 78, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 1995 at his home.
Mr. Shields was born in Union
County, Georgia, on October 3, 1916, a son of the late Walter Shields
and Pearl
Vineyard Shields. He was a Veteran of
the U. S. Army Air Corps, and served during World War II.
Mr. Shields had lived in the Blairsville area
for twenty years, coming here from Marietta, Georgia.
He was a member of the American Legion, and a
member of the Carpenter’s Union, Local #225.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Marie Headrick Shields, of Blairsville; daughter, Susan Shields Pasko,
of
Fayetteville, North Carolina; son, Carl Michael Shields, of Edgefield,
South
Carolina; daughter, Eve shields Bolton Elliott, of Marietta; daughter,
Nancy
Shields Chapman, of Blairsville; son, George David Shields, of Marietta
and daughter
Janice Shields Payne, of Blairsville; sister, Jeanette Reeves, of
Grayson,
Georgia, and brother, Roy W. Shields, of Alpharetta, Georgia; fifteen
grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
April 1, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Funeral Home with
Rev. Hadley
Shields officiating. Special music for
the service was presented by Jerry Butram and Nichele (sic) Webb. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Ricky Shields, Robert Velesco, Brian Pasko, Gregg
Headrick,
Russell Murphy, and Patrick Murphy. The
following gentlemen served as Honorary Escort to the Family; Jacob
Bolton,
Jonathan Payne, and Mark Shields.
Graveside Military Honors were presented by the North Georgia
Honor
Guard. Interment was in Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu
of flowers,
the family requests memorial contributions be made to Georgia Mountain
Hospice
or to the American Cancer society.

Mrs.
Avonelle Vantrease Hill, 61, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, April 3, 1995 in Union
General
Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Hill was a native of Davidson
County, Tennessee. She was born December
16, 1933, her father, Harold L. Vantrease, preceded her in death. Mrs. Hill and her husband had lived in the
Blairsville area for approximately seven years, coming here from
Tifton,
Georgia. Mrs. Hill was of the Church of
Christ Faith.
Surviving are her husband, Mr. John
O. Hill, of the home; her mother, Jessie Dale Vantrease Gunter, of
Nashville,
Tennessee; two daughters, Deborah Hill-Cooper, of Mobile, Alabama and
Karen
Smith of West Richland, Washington, and a son, Michael Hill of Tifton,
Georgia;
five grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
April 5, 1995 from the Chapel of the Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Mason
officiating. Interment was in
Chattanooga National Cemetery on Thursday, April 6th.

Mr.
Farrell Jackson, age 74, of Blairsville,
GA, passed away Monday, April 3, 1995 at his home.
Mr. Jackson was born in Union
County, GA on May 20, 1920, a son of the late Claude E. and Rusha
Lovell
Jackson. He was a U.S. Army veteran and
served during World War II. Mr. Jackson
was a lifelong resident of this area and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sisters: Clara
Mote of Atlanta and Eloise Sexton of Blairsville; three brothers:
Wilmer
Jackson of Newnan, GA, Claude E. Jackson, Jr., of Calhoun, GA, and
Eugene T.
Jackson of Blairsville. A host of
nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
April 5, 1995 at 4:00 p.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with
Rev. Harley
Hunter officiating. Music was presented
by Kenneth and Elaine Young. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bennie Rich, Sid Rich, Larry
Rich,
Bobby Rich, Charles Rich, and Larry Henson. Interment
was in Harmony Grove Baptist Church
Cemetery.

The Akins
Funeral Home of Blue Ridge
announces the death of Mr. Douglas Wilson Worden, age 67, of
Blairsville,
Georgia who passed away Friday, April 7th in Kennestone Hospital in
Marietta,
Georgia. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he
was the son of the late Elmer and Maybell Reed Worden.
Mr. Worden was of the Church of Christ faith
and was a veteran, serving the United States Army.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas
Worden of Marietta, Georgia, and Duane Worden of Mt. Morris, Michigan;
three
daughters, Sherry Pickelsimer of Morganton, Georgia, Debbie Day of
Acworth,
Georgia, and Karen Worden of Marietta, Georgia; one brother, Eugene
Worden of
Berkely, Michigan, and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted
Sunday, April 9th at 2:00 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with
Minister David Macy officiating. Music
will be by Freddie Thomas. The following
gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers and should
assemble at the
funeral home by 1:45 p.m. Sunday: Nelson Picklesimer, Quinton
Picklesimer,
Marvin Picklesimer, W.T. Moore, and Don Brawley. Interment
will follow at Chastain Memorial
Park with graveside services by North Georgia Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the funeral home after
5:00 p.m. Saturday. Akins funeral Home
of Blue Ridge in charge of arrangements.
