Mr.
Charles Wesley
Padgett, age 85, of Coosa View Lane, Blairsville, formerly of Lithonia,
GA,
passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2011 in the Heritage Health Care
following an
extended illness. Mr. Padgett was born
on Aug. 17, 1925 in Sandersville, GA, the son of the late Paul Perry
Padgett
and the late Marion Veal Padgett. He was
a veteran of the US Marines of WWII in which he was wounded in action
in the
South Pacific and received the Purple Heart. He
retired in 1985 from the US Postal Service
after over thirty three years of service. He
was preceded in death by a brother, Perrian
Padgett and a sister-in-law, Martha Hodges Padgett. Charles
was a loving husband, father, brother
and grandfather. Mr. Padgett was a
member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County.
Surviving
Mr.
Padgett are his loving wife of sixty-four years, Anita Campbell Padgett
of
Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Chuck and Pam Padgett of
Cumming, GA, Mark Padgett of Canton, GA, two grandchildren, Adam and
Kristin
Padgett both of Canton, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A
Celebration of
Life Service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. from
the First
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. Special music will be presented by Jeff Bauman
and Keith DeFoor. Military Honors will
be presented by the North GA Honor Guard. Flowers
are accepted or in lieu of flowers if
you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the First
United
Methodist Church Activities Center or to a favorite charity of your
choice in
memory of Mr. Padgett. The family will
meet with friends following the services.

Mrs.
Lucille J Crosby, age 80, of Warner's way Blairsville, GA formerly of
Dover, MA
passed away on Monday, April 4, 2011 following a brief illness. Ms. Crosby was born on November 25, 1930 in
Cincinnati Ohio, the daughter of the late Frank Miller and the late
Edna Curtis
Miller. Mrs. Crosby graduated from
Framing Ham Massachusetts State College. She
taught School at the Harwich Middle School
(5th & 6th Grade) for many years. She
enjoyed knitting quilting and cooking. She
was a member of the Misty Mountain Quilters Guild. She
was a loving mother, sister and
grandmother. She had a great lover and
appreciation for the beauty and charm of both Dover and Wellesley. Mrs. Crosby was a member of the Coosa United
Methodist Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Crosby are her loving companion, Ned Strout, one daughter Dawn
Brewster of
East Falmouth, MA, two sons and one daughter-in-law Edward Crosby of
Wellesley
MA, Paul and Beverly Crosby of Bridgeport W.VA, one brother Stanley
Miller of
Homestead FL, one sister-in-law Sheila Miller of Homestead FL, several
nieces
and nephews, four grandchildren, Shawn Crosby, Sydney, Morgan, and Adam
Brewster, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A
Memorial service will be held later date. In
lieu of flowers if you wish memorials may
be made to the American Cancer Society and Mrs. Crosby's memory. (sic)

Mrs.
Cindy Marie
McConn, age 51, of Hwy. 515 East, Blairsville, passed away on Monday,
April 4,
2011 following a brief illness. Mrs.
McConn
was born on July 15, 1959 in Lexington, MA, the daughter of Arthur
Millican and
Patricia Miller Millican. Cindy was an ice
skating pro and coach and had taught ice skating in the Atlanta area
for over
ten years. She had been employed with
Walmart and Home Depot. At the time of
her death she was employed with Brasstown Valley Resort. Cindy
was a loving and kind person who was
always happy. She was of the Methodist
faith.
Surviving
Cindy are
her parents, Arthur and Patricia Millican of Blairsville, two
daughters,
Brittany Bottoms of Marietta and Candie Perry of Ottlewal, TN, three
brothers
and two sisters-in-law, Arthur Millican Jr. of Blairsville, Robin Allen
and
Melanie Millican of Largo, FL, Bradley and Joan Millican of St. Pete,
FL, many
other relatives and friends also survive.
A
memorial service
will be held at a later date. In lieu of

Union County Humane Society Mtn. Shelter in memory of Cindy.

Mrs.
Lydia Elizabeth
Nix Saxon, age 89, of Blairsville, GA, passed away on Monday, April 4,
2011 at
Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee, GA, following a long
illness. She was born April 17, 1921 in
Blairsville, GA
to the late Frank and Hattie England Nix. On
October 20, 1936, she was united in
marriage to Comer Edward Saxon. Mrs. Saxon worked as a riveter at the
Bell
Bomber Plant in Marietta, GA, during WWII and was very proud to be
amoung (sic)
the ladies known as, " Rosie the Riveter". Sewing, gardening and
quilting were her passion and she won several Blue Ribbon awards for
quilts
that she hand pieced and hand quilted. She
was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Birt Columbus Nix and
sister,
Cora Nix Brown.
Lydia is
survived by
her loving husband of 74 years, Comer Edward Saxon; two sons, Olen
Saxon of
Moriarty, NM, and Dean Saxon and fiancée Patti MacLean of Blairsville;
two
daughters, Betty Louise Saxon Hopkins of Alpharetta, GA, and Brenda
Saxon
Morgan and husband Jerry of Gainesville, GA; ten grandchildren and nine
great- grandchildren. She is further
survived by two sisters, Viola
Jaworski and Elvia Brookshire; brother, Eugene Nix; and many nieces and
nephews
and other family members.
Celebration
of Life
Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Chapel of
Cochran
Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Interment
was in the Union Baptist Church
Cemetery. The family received friends on
Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Stacy Hopkins, Derek Saxon,
David
Saxon, Jerry Morgan, Jamie Burnette and Dean Saxon.
The
family would
like to thank the nurses and staff of Appalachian Home Health Care and
Chatuge
Regional Nursing Home for the loving care they gave to Mrs. Saxon. If you wish, memorial donations may be made to
the Alzheimer’s Association.

Horace
Eli
Strickland, 93, a retired fireman from City of Marietta, resident of
Blairsville, passed away on April 4, 2011. He
was born March 8, 1918. Horace was
preceded in death by wife, Virginia
Strickland and daughter Peggy Horton. He
is survived by daughter and son-in-law Gayle and Gene Tatum of
Kennesaw, son
and daughter-in-law John and Pat Strickland of Blairsville and son and
daughter-in-law Tommy and Denise Strickland of Acworth. He
will also be remembered by three grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren. A service
in memory of Horace will be held Sunday April 10th at 2 p.m.
at
Cheatham Hill Baptist Church located at 1811 West Sandtown Rd,
Marietta, GA
30064. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made to Confidence Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
