ralph gilreath

 

Mr. Ralph Gilreath, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2004 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Gilreath was born in Union County, Georgia, on Monday, October 4, 1920, a son of the late Joseph H. Gilreath and Murphy Jane Shope Gilreath.  He was a carpenter and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, James & Glenda Gilreath, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Rodney Kuykendall, of Asheville, North Carolina; granddaughter, Abby Jackson; grandsons: Josh Kuykendall and Jake Cawthorn; brothers: Gene Gilreath of Suches, Georgia and Rufus Gilreath, of Canton, Ohio; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Vernon Davenport officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Greg Gilreath, Chuck Gilreath, Jurl Gilreath, Brad Smith, Jeff Farmer, and Rufus Everett.  Burial was in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

mr. stanley r. schartz

 

The death of Mr. Stanley R. Schartz, age 90, occurred April 2, 2004, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville.  Mr. Schartz was a veteran of World War II.  Services were held Monday morning, 11 a.m., from the Georgia War Veterans memorial Cemetery with Father Michael McWhorter officiating. 

Mr. Schartz was a native of Ecorse, Michigan, and a retired employee of General Motors in Detroit and has made his home in Blairsville for the past fifteen years.  He was the son of the late Henry and Alice Odette Schartz and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Ecorse, Michigan.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lou Craig Schartz of Blairsville; one daughter, Barbara J. Hull of Blairsville; his granddaughter, Susan E. Cross of Blairsville; two great-grandchildren, Andrew O’Brien and Dalton Patterson, both of Blairsville.

Moores Funeral Home in Milledgeville was in charge of the arrangements.

blanche kelley

 

Mrs. Blanche Kelley, age 81, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in the Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Kelley was born in Union County, on Monday, October 30, 1922, a daughter of the late Bryan and Josie (Reece) Walsh. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  Mrs. Kelley was preceded in death by sisters, Bobbie Walsh and Polly Roberts and her husband, Paul Kelley.

Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Clay Robinson Austell, GA and Elaine and Terry Queen of Blairsville, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Judy Kelley of Blairsville, GA and Michael and Barbara Kelley of Columbus, GA; sister, Opal Patton of Blairsville, GA; Six grandchildren: Terry and Peggy Kelley, Rhonda and Jeff McCarter, Kelley and Duane Manders, Christy Queen, Michael Kelley, and Richard Kelley; six great grandchildren: Whitney Kelley, Matthew Kelley, Brady McCarter, Bryce McCarter, Kait McCarter, Bethany Manders; along with many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 3, 2004, at 2:00 pm, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bob Head, David Gowder, Geore Gowder, Bryan Roberts, Ricky Hood, and Homer Powell.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

margaret frances hulsey miller

 

Mrs. Margaret Frances Hulsey Miller, age 67, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Marietta, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004, following an extended illness.

Mrs. Miller was born in Fulton County, Georgia, on Wednesday, February 3, 1937, a daughter of the late Henry Howard Hulsey and Frances McDaniel Hulsey.  She lived most of her life in Cobb County, Georgia, and had been living in Blairsville for four years.  Mrs. Miller was of the Baptist faith.  Preceding her in death was her husband, Dudley B. Miller, and a brother, Gordon Hulsey.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kim T. and Jimmy Davis, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Cindy Womack, of Greenville, SC; grandchildren and spouses: Shannon and Michael Brey, of Blairsville, GA; Tori and Jimmy Wilson of Easley, SC; Jennifer Williamson, of Greenville, SC; Charlie and Vicki Davis, of Blairsville, GA; Matt and Natasha Womack, of Carrollton, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Bert and Weyman Wellborn, of Carrabelle, FL; great grandchildren: Cole Davis, Sawyer Brey, Dillion Womack, Caley Davis, Allie Brey, Logan Snuggs and Mary Wilson; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home, with pastor Richard Helms officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Charlie Davis, Michael Brey, Matt Womack, Eddie Davis, and Doug Hughes.  Burial will be in Georgia Memorial Cemetery, in Marietta, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

tasker roy patton

 

Mr. Tasker Roy Patton, age 62, of Marietta, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, GA, passed away on April 6, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Patton was born in Union County, Georgia on Friday, July 11, 1941, a son of the late Lawrence Taft Patton and Hattie Marie Warren Patton.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  Mr. Patton was an automobile mechanic and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Delores Garrett Patton, of their home; daughters, Ramona Lynn Griffin, of Smyrna, GA., Robin Ann Priest, of Marietta, GA; sons, Michael Taker Patton of Kennesaw, GA., and Martin Lawrence Patton, of Marietta; brother, Warren Taft Patton; sister, Vendetta Wright Patton, both of Blairsville; grandchildren, Elaine Griffin, Tiffany Patton, Taylor Griffin, Colt Priest, Alyssa Griffin and Jessica Patton; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 9, 2004 at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Randy Hughes officiating.  Burial was held Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

michael shane hunter

 

Mr. Michael Shane Hunter, age 32, of Blairsville, GA, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 8, 2004.

Mr. Hunter was born in Utah, on Saturday, February 12, 1972.  He was an automobile body repairman, and had lived most of his life in Union County.  Mr. Hunter had attended Liberty Hill Methodist Church.  His father, Cecil Roy Hunter, passed away in 1980.

Surviving are his mother, Norma Fern Hunter, of Blairsville; a sister, Karen Hunter, of Blue Ridge, Georgia; a brother, Randy Hunter, of Hiawassee, Georgia; a half-sister, Roxanne Pudney, of Mesquite, Nevada; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Monday, April 12, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Brent Chatham  officiating.  Burial will be in Liberty Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
