mrs. omi grace lee henson

 

Mrs. Omi Grace Lee Henson, age 67, of Mt. Pleasant Church Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2003 in the North East Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.  Mrs. Henson was born on March 28, 1936 in Polk Co., GA, the daughter of the late Dave Roberson and the late Essie Mae Dean Robertson.  She was preceded in death by two children, Lonnie and Barbara Henson.  Mrs. Henson was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Henson are her loving husband of thirty five years, Milledge Henson of Macon; seven daughters and five sons in law: Pam and Charlie Hinson of Blairsville, Kay and David Jenkins of Dawsonville, Melody Brown of Blairsville, Crystal and Buck Dills of Blairsville, Mary Henson and Devon Anderson of Athens, Mae and Rick Amato of CT, Kathy Lopez of Gainesville; four sons and daughters in law: Jimmy and Madelyn Young of Gainesville, Gene and Ginger Young of Rome, Dwayne and Katrina Henson of Blairsville, Thomas and Dana Henson of Blairsville; three step daughters, Lola Sillings, Carolyn Henson and Charlene Henson; five step sons, David, Mark, Billy, Dewey and Richard Henson; brother, Bobby Roberson of Rome; sister, Joyce Fincher of Rome; forty grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, many other relatives, friends and neighbors also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wayne Hughes, Rev. Steve Whistnant and Rev. Ned Wilcoxon officiating.  Special music was presented by the Jenkins Family, Harold Callahan, Joshua Dills, Ginger Young, Tammy and Randy Hughes.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Charlie Hinson, Glenn Lee, Jason Whistnant, Don Scruggs Oscar Lopez, and Calvin Anders.  Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Lee, Terrell Beasley and Davon Anderson.  Interment followed in the Providence Methodist Cemetery.

mrs. mary moore phillips

 

Mary Moore Phillips of Blairsville, GA passed away on Sunday at the age of 89.  Mrs. Phillips was a native of Ashland, AL, and lived in Athens, AL for many years before moving to Florida and Blairsville.  She graduated from Athens College where she also taught and served as Alumni Executive Secretary.  She remained a member of Clearwater Community Church, Clearwater, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Shelby W. Phillips.  Survivors include one daughter, Gay Phillips Carter of North Carolina; grandsons, Jeff carter and Kevin Carter, both of Florida; granddaughter, Stacy Bourne of Virginia; and two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted by her son-in-law, Rick Carter, at the Athens City Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.  Following the service, a reception will be held at Athens College in celebration of Mrs. Phillips’ life.  Friends and family are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Young Life Campership Fund.  The memo portion of the check should indicate: in memory of Mary Moore Phillips.  The mailing address is: Young Life of Orange Park, P.O. Box 395, Orange Park, FL 32065.

mrs. leila brown warren

 

Mrs. Leila Brown Warren, age 88, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, GA passed away Thursday, April 10, 2003 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Warren was born on Tuesday, June 9, 1914 in Union County, a daughter of the late Barney Rastus Brown and Velda Nancy Mason Brown.  She was a homemaker.  Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by her husband, Reid Anderson Warren in 1985.

Surviving are a daughter, Flora Warren Payne of Acworth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and John Ledford of Blairsville; two sisters, Stella Chambers and Betty Jones both of Blairsville; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 12, 2003 at 11 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Randy Hughes officiating.  Special music was presented by rev. and Mrs. Randy Hughes.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Larry Chambers, John Blakley, Howie Raby, Douglas Hales, and Jeremy and Paul Ketcham.  Interment was in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. kenneth howard merrill

 

Mr. Kenneth Howard Merrill, age 84, of Stonewall Drive, Blairsville passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2003 in Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Merrill was born on January 30, 1919 in Bradley, IL, the son of the late Walter S. Merrill and the Vernarda Swanson Merrill.  He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII.  Mr. Merrill was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses.

Surviving Mr. Merrill are his loving wife of sixty years, Frances Benner Merrill of Blairsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Margaret Merrill of Buffalo, NY; two sisters, Marion Slick of Phillips, WI, Dorthea Hughes of Franklin, NC; four brothers, John Merrill of Tuscon, AZ, Rosco Merrill of Winder, GA, Richard Merrill of CA, Bradley Merrill of Milwaukee, WI; one grandson, Timothy Merrill of Buffalo, NY.  Many other relatives, friends and neighbors also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 2 p.m. from The Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses Church with the presiding overseer, Rod Scogin officiating.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to The Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witness Church in Mr. Merrill memory.
