Mrs.
Roma Hill Akins, age 90, of Blairsville, GA passed away Monday, April
7, 2008,
in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Akins was born in Gilmer County, GA, on June 29, 1917, a
daughter
of the late Lawrence Hill and Sarah Gates Hill.
She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in union County,
GA. Mrs. Akins was a member of First
Baptist
Church of Blairsville, and had been an active member of the Order of
the
Eastern Star and the Blairsville Garden Club.
Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her husband, Bonnell Akins,
in 1982.
Surviving family
members include sons and daughters-in-law, Milton and Sandra Akins; and
Larry
and Donna Akins, all of Blairsville; and son, George Akins, of
Woodstock, GA;
brothers and sisters-in-law: Art and Bess Hill, of Athens, TN; and
Buford and
Gretel Hill of new Jersey; five grandchildren: Matthew Akins, Kristal
Hemphill,
Andrew Akins, Allison Hyde, and Sea Akins; great-grandchildren: Aubrie
Akins,
Isaac Hyde, Gabe Hemphill, Mattie Akins, Layla Akins, and Gunnar Akins;
many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 3
p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Blairsville Chapel, with Rev. B.A.
Buchanan officiating. The following
gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Mike Hemphill, Gabe Hemphill, Matthew Akins, Andrew Akins,
Sean
Akins, and Steven Hyde. Burial was in
Union memory Gardens Cemetery. The
family met with friends starting at 2 p.m., one hour prior to the
funeral
service.

Callie
Lou Corn, of Blairsville, GA passed away on April 10, 2008 in Union
County
Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Corn was born on January 28, 1914, in Union County, GA, the
daughter of the late Frank H. Spiva and the late Ada Gertrude Ledford. She was a loving wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Johnny Alexander Corn in 1981. Mrs. Corn
was member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA.
Surviving Mrs.
Corn are one daughter, Ella Marie Roberson
of
Dahlonega, GA and sister, Jessie L. Erwin of Blairsville, GA.
Funeral
services were held on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 3
p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers, Benny Erwin, Dale Hamby, Keith Ledford, Jimmy
Alexander. Interment followed in the
Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union County Nursing Home
Activity
Department. The family met with friends
at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m.

Hazel
Druzella Austin McRae, age 83, of Blairsville, passed away on Saturday,
April
12th following complications from a fall.
Hazel was born in Acworth, GA on August 10th, 1924
and lived
most of her life in Smyrna and Marietta, GA, moving to Blairsville
about 15
years ago. She is the daughter of the
late Loren Joseph Austin, Sr., and Lora Pauline Austin.
Hazel is
survived by her husband of 65 years of marriage, Herman McRae of
Blairsville,
and her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Cheryl McRae-Bergeron and Woodrow
Bergeron
of Blairsville. Her grandsons are Adam
Bergeron of San Diego, CA, and David Bergeron and her two
great-grandchildren,
Brian and Mia of Brussels, Belgium. She
was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Keys of Cartersville, GA and
her
brother, L.J. “Brother” Austin, of Blairsville and Sebring, FL. Her beloved nieces are Debbie Russ of Powder
Springs, GA, Joyce Shannon of Jackson, GA, Barbara Newton of McDonough,
GA, and
Shelia Smith of Cartersville, GA. Her
nephews are Wayne Austin of Seneca, SC and Robert Austin of Sebring, FL. Her sister-in-law is Dorothy Austin of
Sebring, FL, formerly of Blairsville, and her sister, Betty Bryant of
Sebring,
FL.
Hazel was a
graduate of Smyrna High School, was the Brownie Girl Scout Leader of
Chapter
11, a member of Chapter 387 of the Loyal Order of the Eastern Star and
a devout
Baptist. She retired from Hanover
Insurance Company in Atlanta, GA. Her
strong will and guidance will be sorely missed by her family and
friends.
The family
received friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Sunday, April 13th. Funeral services were held Monday, April 14th
at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home with the Reverend George Cline
officiating
and interment at Kennesaw memorial Park, Marietta, GA.
Pallbearers were Larry Shapiro, Jonathon
Lodge, Ronnie Newton, Roy Russ, bobby
Jarred, Harold
Plot, Pete Hill, Jimmy Morrison and Adam Bergeron.
Donations in Hazel’s memory can be made to

Mr.
Rouss Jackson, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, April
8, 2008,
in Union County Nursing Home. Mr.
Jackson was a native of Union County, and had been preceded in death by
his
wife, Jessie Hamby Jackson, in December of 2007. He
was a lifelong resident of Union County,
and was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving
family members include step-son and wife, Bill and Everee Hamby of
Adairsville,
GA; a brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Geraldine Jackson, of
Blairsville;
grandchildren and their spouses: Alan and Lorie Hamby of Woodstock,
Gal; Paxton
and Debbie Hamby of Adairsville; and Keith and Him Hamby of Calhoun,
GA; eight
great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, April 13, 2008, at 2 p.m.

Mrs.
Emma Lee Clayton, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Murphy,
North
Carolina, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008 in Blairsville. Mrs. Clayton was born Friday, August 12, 1921
in Union County, Georgia, to the late Jesse James and Evie Stephens
Thomas. She was a member of South End
Baptist Church in Murphy, and had been preceded in death by her
husband, James
Allen Clayton.
Surviving
family members include a sister, Georgia Griggs of Blairsville; several
nieces
and nephews also survive.
Graveside
services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10,
2008, from Union memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Potts
officiating.

Mr.
Doug Henderson, age 51 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, April
10, 2008
at his home. Mr. Henderson was born
Friday, October 5, 1956 in Towns Co., GA.
He was a member of many Forks Baptist Church.
Doug loved his grandson Jarred and was a
master woodworker. He was preceded in
death by a brother, Carlos Henderson.
Survivors
include: wife, Brenda Henderson of Blairsville, GA; parents, Jim and
Alice
Henderson of Young Harris, GA; son, Eric Henderson of Young Harris, GA;
son
& daughter-in-law, Dustin and Tosha Henderson of Suches, GA;
step-daughter,
Tammy parker of Blairsville, GA; step-son & daughter-in-law, Jim
and Stacy
Carter of Blairsville, GA; ten grandchildren; several aunts and uncles,
four
nieces.
Funeral
services were held Monday, April 14, 2008 at 2 p.m.
from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Potts, Rev. R.L.
Martin
and Rev. James Lee officiating. Music
was provided by The happy Pilgrims. Interment was in the Henderson Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Dustin
Henderson, Jason Lee, Coty Henson, James Ivey, mark Carter and Jeff
Loetscher. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggests that donations
be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
