William F. Rogers (age 74) and Judith A. Rogers (age 73) loving couple, parents, grandparents and devoted Catholics passed away in an automobile accident on April 10, 2013. 

The couple was born and married in Chicago, IL.   Bill (Buck) was a Korean War veteran and worked for 30 years with AT&T while Judy raised the family and later went back to school and became a Registered Nurse.   They were both active members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA, Bill with the Knights of Columbus and Judy with various church services.

Bill is survived by his brother Tom Rogers and sister Mary Lynn Cleveland while Judy is survived by her brother Dennis Lord.  They are both survived by their children Michael (wife Kristin), David (wife Lori), John (wife Phyllis), Bill (wife Carrie) and Nancie Bragg (husband Ron).  They are also survived by their 13 grandchildren Sara, Dan, Joe, Emma, Grant, Nick, Dawson, Jordan, Jessica, Megan, Kelli, Tyler and Ryan.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Rogers, sisters Judy and Ellen and brother James.  Judith was preceded in death by her parents James and Ruth Lord. 

Memorial Mass will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Liem officiating.  In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA.

            Mr. Charles Lee Payne, age 59, of Nottely Dam Road, Blairsville passed away suddenly along with his wife Louise on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at his home. Charles was born April 21, 1953 in Blue Ridge, GA. He loved to hunt, fish, and work on lawn mowers and loved to tinker with things. Charles was preceded in death by his father, Jack Charles Payne, Sr. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

            Survivors include his mother, Janie Payne of Blairsville, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Vickie Payne of Blairsville, GA, son, Anthony Payne (deceased) of Canton, GA, sisters, Wanda and Walter Sparks of Powder Springs, GA, Linda and Poley Seabolt of Blairsville, GA, Brenda Moxley of Soperton, GA, Sharon and Larry Trulove of Blairsville, GA, Jack Payne of Mineral Well, WV, and Cynthia Hester of Blairsville, GA, step-children, Randy Hampton, Debra Lynn Hampton, Rehnee and Clifford Herr and Teresa Colwell all of Blairsville, five grandchildren, Kayce, Kourtney, Karlee, Kinsley and Kristen.

              Graveside services were held Monday, April 8, 2013 at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Billy Jones officiating.  The family received friends following the service.

            Allian Lois Eddy, age 93, born September 26, 1919 in Pittstown, NY. The oldest daughter of Lewis and Phebe Brenenstuhl. The blessed wife of Harvey B. Eddy for 65 years. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, Blairsville, GA. She was a Master Cosmetologist for over 60 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Pioneer Chapter #99; Order of the Eastern Star, Orlando and Past Matron of Eastern Star, Morgantown, GA and Blairsville, GA. She was noted for her outstanding achievement in poetry; having been selected to have her work placed in "100 Most Famous Poets 2004" and "Who's Who in Poetry 2004 & 2005". She authored three books, "Reflections" (2003), "Poetry In Motion" (2004), and "A Labor of Love" (2013).   She leaves behind her son Carson (Melody), daughter Melodee (Carlton) Hoeltke, sons Ronnie, Brian (Caroline), and Wayne, sisters Luceil Eddy and Sandra Hughes, and brother Pierre H. Brenenstuhl in addition to 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.            Her legacy was her strong devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her husband and children.

            Services were held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Orlando, the Henry Chapel at 2 PM.

            In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Hospice of the Comforter at 480 W. Central Pkwy, Altamonte Springs, FL. 32714 or to the First Baptist Church of Orlando, TV Ministry at 3000 S. John Young Pkwy, Orlando, FL 32805.

patrick "Pat" mchugh ferguson

 

Mr. Patrick “Pat” McHugh Ferguson age 57 of Evening Shade, Blairsville passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Ferguson was born on May 11, 1955 in Oakland, CA, the son of Carol Anderson Ferguson and the late John Clark Ferguson. He was a veteran of the US Navy for six years. At the time of his death he was employed with Reynolds & Reynolds for over thirty years. Pat had been a Cub Scout Den Leader and a Scoutmaster of Troup 26 of Norcross, GA. He loved to sail and enjoyed building miniature model sail boats. He was a very loving husband, father and brother. He was preceded in death by his father, John Clark Ferguson, his grandparents, Bert and Esther Anderson and John J. and Helen C. Ferguson. “No matter how dull the situation, Pat could walk into the room and Brighten the whole day”.  (sic) Pat was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Surviving Pat are his loving wife of twenty years, Madge Whitley Ferguson of Blairsville, mother, Carol Ferguson of Greenville, TX, one son, Maxfield A. Sussmann of Blairsville, three brothers, Brian Ferguson of Chicago, IL, Kevin Ferguson of Garland, TX, Daniel Ferguson of Greenville, TX, one sister, Katherine Ferguson of Greenville, TX, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Friday April 19, 2013 from the St. William’s Catholic Church in Greenville, TX. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Greenville Counsel # 7438, PO Box 9198 Greenville, TX 75404 in memory of Mr. Ferguson.

            Mrs. Cecile May Voliva, age 93, of Ginseng Way, Pigeon Forge, TN, formerly of Blairsville passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Pigeon Forge Care and Rehab Center in Pigeon Forge.  She was born January 15, 1920 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Glenn and Mary E. (Spalding) Hatfield.  Mrs. Voliva was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Voliva.  She was a member of the Christian Church in Bradenton, FL. 

            Survivors include sons: Dwayne E. Voliva and Glenn D. Voliva both of Pigeon Forge, TN; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

            No services are planned at this time.

            Mrs. Pamela Anne Cooper, age 63, of Wesley Mountain Drive, Blairsville passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 in North Fulton Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Cleveland, OH on July 9, 1949 to the late Peter Michael and Celeste Marguerite (Story) McGonnell. She moved here from Coolidge, GA one year ago. Mrs. Cooper was a loving and caring sister, aunt and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Russell Cooper, Jr., in 2007. She was of the Catholic Faith.

            Survivors include sisters, Gail Romine of Blairsville, GA and Susan Buchfellner of Dawsonville, GA, nieces, Danielle and Matt Tomlin of Gainesville, GA and Gabrielle and Shane Crider of Gainesville, GA, nephew Damond Riddle of Gainesville, GA several aunts, uncles and cousins, great nieces and nephews, Matthew Tomlin, Ricky Tomlin, Rilee Tomlin, Preston Crider and Zayne Crider.

            Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorials to Union County Humane Society Mountain Shelter.
