harley william harkins

 

Mr. Harley William Harkins, age 83, of Suches, GA, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Clay County Care Center, in Hayesville, NC.

Mr. Harkins was born Sunday, May 6, 1923 in Union County, GA, to the late James and Lola Abercrombie Harkins.  He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and served as a Gunner on the U.S. Pennsylvania.  Mr. Harkins was a member of the VFW.  He retired from General Motors in Detroit, MI.  Preceding him in death, besides his parents, were two of his brothers, Ralph Harkins and Eldo Harkins.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemond Butler Harkins of Lincoln Park, MI; sister and brother-in-law, Stella Mae and Cecil Hayes of Lenoir, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Ira T. and Pauline Harkins; brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Virginia Harkins; sister-in-law, Verlan Harkins, all of Suches; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 13, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Corinth Baptist Church in Suches with the Rev. William Phillips officiating.  Music was by John Jarrard.  Pallbearers were Tom Harkins, Robert Harkins, Craig Harkins, Phil Harkins, Dwight Harkins and Junior Ramsey.  Interment followed in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by The North Georgia Honor Guard.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Thursday, April 12.

michael steele kapler

 

Mr. Michael Steele Kapler, age 53, of Whatever Way, Blairsville passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 in Orlando, FL.   Mr. Kapler was born on February 10, 1954 in Lakewood, NJ, the son of Mary Joorman Kapler and the late John Kapler.  Michael graduated from the Divers Training Academy in Ft. Pierce, FL and worked as a Commercial Diver, later he started his own Paint Contracting Business (Mike Kapler painting).  He also worked in the Hotel Business.  Michael was a Naturalist and Conservationist.  In his younger years, he was an avid Surfer, but his main hobby was Arrowhead Collecting, as he wanted to preserve our native American History.  He was an extraordinary human being and a wonderful father, husband and a good friend to many.

Surviving Michael are his loving wife, Yajaira Lissette Kapler of Blairsville; three daughters and one son-in-law, Gerry and Justin Dunbar of Deltona, FL, Lissette Kapler and Kamila Kapler both of Blairsville; mother, Mary Kapler of Blairsville; step mother, Madaline Kapler of Blairsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Janie Hall of Hobe Sound, FL; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lynda and Richard Akers of Tavares, FL, Cynthia Hodal of Deland, FL, June and Ronald Laster of Taveres, FL, Julie Parson of TX; mother-in-law, Candida Monasterios of Orlando, FL; father-in-law, Dominick Giannelli of Folson, CA; sister-in-law, Xiomara Giannelli of Orlando, FL; several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life service was held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 4 p.m. from the Home.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to a trust at United Community Bank for his daughter’s college fund in Michael’s memory.

kent kelley

 

Kent Kelley, age 47, of Blairsville, GA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 13, 2007 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.  Kent was born Monday, December 14, 1959, in Miami, FL to the late Clarence Kelley, Jr. and Connie Kelley of Blairsville.  He lived in Miami until moving to Blairsville in 1992.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville and was past Commander, Lt. Commander, Adjutant and Chaplain of Sons of Confederate Veterans.  Kent was a Little League Coach of K-Land Jr. Varsity in Miami.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, are his brother and sister-in-law, Rusty and Sylvia Kelley of Blairsville; sister and brother-in-law, Charmaine and Mike Buttrill, also of Blairsville; nephew, Rodney Raymond Kelley; nieces: Jamie Kelley, Cristal Kelley, Adrienne Pitre and Karen Pitre.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Fred Lodge and Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating.  Music was provided by Minister of Music R. Terry Hooper.  Interment followed in Union memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen:  Homer Payne, Ernie Kamber, Sr., Gollie Easter, Bill Holland, Jim Mason, Lester Sutton, George Radcliffe and Horace Plott.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were members of Boaz Sunday School Class.  Honors were presented by Sons of Confederate Veterans.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 3-6, Sunday, April 15th.

In lieu of flowers, Kent had requested that memorial donations be made to: International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, Isaiah 58 Project, 30 North LaSalle St., Suite 2600, Chicago, IL  60602-3356.

Kent was an inspiration to all that knew him.

margaret glass jones

 

Margaret Glass Jones, age 68, of Blairsville formerly of Cobb County, GA, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007.  She and her husband Richard E. “Buz” Jones retired to Blairsville in 2000 where she died.  Mrs. Jones is a former member of Locust Grove Baptist Church and the 1st Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Marietta.

Survivors include her husband, Richard E “Buz” Jones of Blairsville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and J.C. Perry of Blairsville, GA; son, Jeff Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; granddaughters, Mandy Perry, Madison and Annabelle Jones; mother, Inez M. Glass; siblings, Shirley Glass and Dick Lasska of Franklin Mary Glass and Nancy Glass.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 13, 2007 at Castellaw Funeral Home Jonquil Chapel with Rev. Dottie Lee officiating.  Burial followed at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family received friends Thursday, April 12, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
